“Yes Sir, We’ll be right there.” One of the things Logan loved in life was the ability they had to mind link with everyone in their pack. “Hey guys, dad said there’s an important pack meeting.  So we should get there ASAP.  Last one there buys lunch.” Where his last words as he passed his friends in a flash of fur.

Logan won of course and then shifted back to human form. After putting on clothes they headed to the meeting hall.  They arrived just as the pack leader was speaking. “Thank you all for coming.  The reason for this gathering is so that we can welcome back three members of our pack. Tim and Michelle James have returned to our family. They left 18 years ago, after they had little Serenity.”  His father smiled at the couple.

Logan had been two years old at the time and didn’t remember them at all. “They wanted to give her a normal human life. It seems little Serenity turned 18 yesterday. The first full moon will be tonight so they were forced to return. Where is little Serenity?” His father asked the couple.

A blush colored the couples face as the man spoke. “Our daughter is very upset at the moment Sir. We decided it was better if she didn’t know who she really was. It’s hard for her to come to terms with the fact that her life has changed.  I apologize on her behalf Alpha.”

“Don’t worry Tom. I’m sure this is going to be hard for her.  The pack will be here if she needs help.” Logan’s dad said trying to ease Mr. James worry.

Back at the James house

Serenity found more reasons to be upset. Her Aunt, cousin and grandmother tried to explain what being a werewolf meant. “Honey, we just came back from a meeting with the pack.” Her father said as he entered the house.

Serenity faced her parents with so many questions running through her head. Her grandmother tried to explain that they all followed and answered to one man. One called the Alpha of the pack. This was something she wasn’t onboard with. “Have they explained everything you need to know?” Her father asked and all Serenity could do was nod yes. “Do you have any questions?” She then shook her head no. “Are you sure?”

There was still too much going on that only one question burst out. “Will I have split ends as a dog?” Serenity figured that making light of the situation would make everyone less stressed. Guess what? It didn’t work. To be honest, she really was worried about having split ends.

After what seemed like an eternity. Her mother laughed. “With the amount of money you spend on hair products.  It’s highly unlikely.” Her mother tried to reassure before planting a kiss atop her head. “How are you doing for real?”

“This feels so unreal. I feel numb mother.” Serenity said holding back tears.

“I know honey and I’m sorry.” Yet her problems were going to get a lot worse as her parents explained the extent of her heart problems. It was like adding alcohol to an open wound. Serenity was faced with the realization that she might soon die.

Her family said that when you shift the first time it hurts. It takes almost all your energy to shift. The fact that she has a weak heart wasn’t going to help things any. Serenity decided to rest in hopes she would have enough energy to shift back. She was devastated and expecting the worst.

Full disclosure was not over yet, they still had one more to give. This one came in the form of, a fucking voice in her head!

Hours later, Serenity was making her way downstairs. She felt as if she were walking the green mile.  You know, death row. On her way to the death chamber. “Honey it’s almost time. Once you shift you will automatically be connected to us and the whole pack, through the mind link.  Then we will shift and show you our part of the forest.”

Serenity looked at them and wondered why they were overlooking the fact she might not survive the change. She understood that at this point, things were out of their hands. Yet Serenity could not quiet the voice screaming in her head at the moment. How much was the shift going to hurt? Just before voicing the concern, the most excruciating pain overtook her body and Serenity passed out.

Serenity eventually awoke feeling groggy. It didn’t take long for things to come rushing back. Strange, everything seemed so much sharper and clear both visually and mentally. The world even sounded as if the volume had been turned up for some reason. Don’t get her started on what happened when she inhaled deeply. The problem hit the moment her hand reached up to run her fingers through her hair. “Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit. I have a fucking paw!”

“Language, please watch your words. I don’t like bad words!” Serenity felt herself jump back as she was startled by the voice.

“What the hell! Who said that?” She asked freaking out even more.

“It is me, your wolf.” Answered the voice. “Thank you so much for waking me up.  I am feeling so happy.  Can we run?  I need to stretch my paws.”

This is surreal. Will you be talking to me all the time?” Serenity wasn’t sure how she felt about having a voice in her head.

“Yes, just think of me as your conscience.  You can control me when you want or you can let me take over and be completely a wolf.  I suggest you do that when it’s time for me to eat.  Speaking of that, I’m hungry.”
Explained the voice.

Her wolf was hungry? “
I think there’s some left over’s in the….”

“Silly girl, I don’t eat your human food; I need a deer or a rabbit.”
The image that popped into her head made Serenity queasy.
“Will you please find a river, so that I may look at myself?”

Serenity was still in awe over the fact that the whole conversation, was taking place in her head. The one thing she knew for sure is that her wolf was very polite.

“Oh honey, you’re gorgeous!” Her mother exclaimed in excitement. “Tom, do you see. Her fur is completely white.” Serenity looked on as she walked around her.  “No marks, no patches of color of any kind?” Serenity felt panic set in as tears began to stream down her mother’s face. Yet after inhaling her sent deeply she relaxed once more.

“Sugar, you’re the most beautiful wolf I’ve ever seen.” Her father’s words were followed by a sheepish. “Next to your mom, that is.” He then turned to kiss her mother.

“All teasing aside. How do you feel Serenity?” The look of concern on his made her frown. “Are you feeling week or any pain?” She still had no clue why he was asking those questions. So she tried to ask him but all that came out of her mouth were strange noises and growls.

“Don’t use your voice to talk. Concentrate on me and think about what you want to say to me.” Her mother instructed.

“How the hell am I going to do that?” Serenity thought before hearing two voices in her head reprimanding her. Great, now she had to endure a double scolding.

“Honey, your mom and I are going to shift now. If you’re feeling up to it, we want to take you on a tour of the land. We will also need to get your wolf feed.” He scratched the back of her ear before walking away.

“I’m going to go to the woods to take off my clothes. I’ll shift there.  Your mother brought you something to put on when we get back.” He shrugged his shoulders as he proceeded to walk away. “Our clothes get shredded if you don’t take them off before shifting.”

“Your dad’s right honey. When you shift back, you will be completely naked. There are so many things to tell you!” Her mother said as she ran after her father enthusiastically.

Serenity nodded her head in understanding and rested on the floor as she awaited their arrival. It never occurred to her that they would be different in color but she was pleasantly surprised when they emerged. They both sported beautiful silver fur. Her father was bigger in size and her mother had a petite and feminine build.

When they sprinted off, Serenity took chase without a second thought. As the air whipped her fur, she couldn’t help but compare it to her dreams. For she had experienced many dreams such as these.

Her dreams always started with her running without a care in the world. How strange? It was then that her wolf howled for all she was worth. Her wolf was happy too.

The feeling of elation radiated within her as the wolf took over the moment it spotted something to eat. Serenity for one was very happy to be block from witnessing the demise of the poor furry animal.

Where was she? Serenity could feel her body and mind. Yet there was nothing around her. Luckily she wasn’t blocked long and when she was allowed control again; her wolf requested they go and wash up. That was the moment they saw themselves for the first time.

They were very pretty.  Her wolf was proud and once again it radiated through her being.  “
Our mate is going to be so happy when we find him.  We look beautiful.” The voice gleefully said.

“Our what? I don’t understand?” Seems there was more Serenity had to learn.

“Our mate, didn’t your family tell you about the one person made especially for you?” The voice questioned in surprise.

Serenity found herself snorting. “I just found out about you yesterday. It was an upsetting revelation to say the least.” This time her body radiated sadness and the voice became quiet. “Wolf, are you there?”

“You didn’t want me?” The wolf asked feeling sad and betrayed.

“‘I’m so sorry wolf; I had no idea it would be this glorious to be with you. Let’s not forget I was also told that the shift might possibly kill me. Can you ever forgive me?” She could feel the happiness within again but there was another emotion too. Yet her wolf masked it just as fast as she had felt it.

“It is not in my nature to hate. Of course I forgive you, I’m glad you like me now!”

Serenity kept the one important thought hidden away. Why had she not died? Regardless of her worry. The rest of the night was magical. Serenity couldn’t believe what her parents were put through because of her. She vowed to make it up to them tomorrow.

For now, she was standing behind some bushes with her mother while being instructed on how to shift back. The pain wasn’t enough to cause another black out but boy had it hurt. Her mother reassured that the pain would decrees as the shifts became more frequent. “Are you still with me Wolf?”’

“Yes, tired but immensely happy. Thank you for tonight.” The voice was weak but content. She sounded just like Serenity felt.

Chapter 3

The next morning Serenity woke feeling refreshed and once again happy. It was time to start giving back. She went into the kitchen and prepared pancakes with bacon, sausage, eggs and oatmeal. She even went as far as making freshly squeezed orange juice.  “Damn, why do I feel so hungry all of a sudden?”

Her words were met by laughter. “Sugar, that’s because you’re a wolf now and you will be hungry all the time.  You burn off a lot of energy running in wolf form. So you have to replenish more often.” Her mother explained through their mind link.

“Crap, I’m going to get fat too?” More laughing followed her question.

“Am I overweight Serenity?” Her mother asked and she felt the need to tease her just a little but held back. “I guess not mom, thanks.” She was liking being able to talk with people through her mind.

After breakfast Serenity ask her mother to wash her fur with shampoo and conditioner.  Her mother rolled her eyes but humored her daughter anyway. The pampering ended with a spritzing the Dolce and Gabbana she loved so much. It was her trademark scent.

Now they looked and smelled divine. Her wolf seemed to be girly too, yet drew the line at wearing ribbons.  “Are you ready for another run?”

~*~*~*~*~*~

Serenity was none the wiser that on the other side of the woods Logan too had finished breakfast?

Logan had consumed so much food that morning, he was close to bursting. “Maybe I’ll go for a run.” The words were said out loud, but meant for no one. He headed to the edge of the woods and removed his clothes. After folding them into a neat pile Logan mind linked the guys. “Does anyone want to go for a run?” He received three simultaneous “No’s” from the guys. “Fine, I can go by myself then.” They were still angry about the run from yesterday.

“I want to run fast.” The voice in his head demanded.

“Lead the way my friend. It’s just you and me this morning. ” Logan told his wolf smugly. He loved his friends just as much as he loved coming in first. His eyes closed as they took off at a great speed. This was one of his favorite things to do. There was nothing like feeling the freedom and wind rushing over him.

Yes, it was just him and his wolf. “I’m in your head. I have no choice but to be with you.” His wolf responded to his thought and Logan took offence.

“Stop or I won’t shifting and let you out.” He threatened, knowing that would make his wolf see things his way.
