"Looks like we've a conversation that needs to happen." She stated, as she wrapped the bed sheet around her and made her way into the kitchen.

Chapter Five: Day One

It was late enough to be early morning when they were at the kitchen table, ready to tell their tales; spill their secrets. Lynx had never told any of her past men her secret, but she knew that Grayson already knew. She knew he had already discovered who and what she was when he sunk his teeth into her and pinned her to the bed, something that ignited her passions but raised immense questions afterwards. What she wanted to talk about was HIS secret.

"So....something you'd like to tell me Grayson?" She said, rapping her nails on the granite tabletop. She was rigid and kept breathing long, deep breaths to keep from changing. She wanted to speak to him human to human, it was imperative to her to stay in form and not shift, especially since the battle was to take place the next day at the cabin.

"I swear I didn't know who you were at first when we met at the coffee shop. I want to get that out first and foremost. I liked you and I was afraid if you knew who I was, you'd never get to know me. I was going to tell you tonight." Grayson said all at once, opening a floodgate of thought and emotion. "I'm part -was part- of the Fenris clan. I was NOT an active participant the night your grandmother died, I swear to you."

Rage boiled inside Lynx like a molten pit of lava. Her body betrayed her want of human form and threatened to shift, sliding in and out of wolf form. Her teeth would gnash and then immediately go back to human teeth, her skin ripped and her fur body broke through only to be mended and brought back into skin. She had no words as she processed the information.

"Was it all a trap? To bed me and weaken me before the battle? You know there is to be a battle this year; I'm not backing down and retreating this time." She said as she walked to pour a glass of water to try and ease her back into a lower blood pressure and stop the cell division that kept morphing her body.

"Yes, I know that you plan to fight the Fenris pack, but no, I was not trapping you. I was selfishly trying to just keep seeing you for as long as I could before I had to tell you."

She didn't know whether to believe him or not. There were so many conflicted emotions that swirled around her heart and mind. There was only one way to know for sure. She closed her eyes as her breathing became jagged and fast. In minutes, she was in full wolf form and able to scan back to that night and assess the members. She hurriedly went from one wolf to another, and saw that Grayson was right; he was not there that evening.

When her eyes opened, her breathing was back to normal, her body back to its human shape. "The alpha there, what was his name?"

"Christian. Christian has been trying to end your existence since he took over the pack. Mainly because you were suppose to be Fenris' Alpha."

"How was a Rafe wolf, especially a female Rafe member, supposed to head the Fenris group?"

"The legend had it that you were born from a tryst from the head of both packs, and that you'd lead the most powerful clan. Your mother was the Rafe Alpha and your father was Alpha to the Fenris pack. Christian assumed that Fenris was the one the legend referred to as the most powerful and that you were destined to take over his group." Grayson said, allowing her to pace back and forth to steady her nerves as he told her everything that he knew about the legend, about Christian, and about Fenris.

Chapter Six: The Battle at the Cabin

After a restful night's sleep together, Lynx and Grayson woke to head to the cabin. They were ready to fight to the death; Lynx to avenge her grandmother's death and Grayson to fight alongside the woman he loved. They parked miles from the cabin and did the rest of the journey by foot, careful not to leave tracks. They laid in wait for Christian and his underlings.

After three or four hours, they heard the faint howls in the distance, the breaking of twigs cracked and popped around the cabin. Lynx took position in a far corner in the back room while Grayson hid in the front wardrobe. While they both knew that as soon as Christian entered, he'd be able to sense their presence, they hoped for just enough surprise to get the drop on him.

Christian entered the dark cabin; his eyes fire red. He swiftly changed into wolf form and prepared. His body arched, face lowered and his teeth gnashed. His nose sniffed around the air, finding two bodies in the cabin. By the time his eyes reopened, Lynx was upon him. Her fur-ladened body slammed against Christian, while his underlings started to trash the cabin and sought out the second occupant.

Her teeth sank first in the soft flesh between his shoulder blades. He bucked wildly while he yelped in pain. Her eyes widened and turned intense gold; her claws lengthened while her spine unfurled. She stayed clenched onto him while he tried to throw her off. The far cry of a wolf in pain told them both that Christian's Fenris underlings had found Grayson. Lynx had no idea who was winning that battle.

Taking her time for Christian to tire as much as possible, she let him expend all the energy while she just held on. Whenever her teeth started to slide or move, she took her nails and stuck them deep into his sides to get a better grip on him, repositioning her teeth onto that soft section. Christian was unable to reach her while she was there, and he knew that he had to think fast or lose all his shifting energies.

It was then he had the idea. He quickly morphed into human form, fast enough that while she was still a wolf and he was human he could stand and fully ram her into the side of the cabin. Lynx fell in a tattered pile down the cabin wall, pieces of its wood embedded in her. They were both locked in a battle of morphing back and forth between their human and their wolf form, trying to get the upper hand.

All at once, Lynx spun around and caught the human Christian on the throat while she was in her wolf state. Her long, sharp teeth clenched into the thin skin while it ripped his artery out. Blood coursed and pumped in rapid fire, while Lynx saw him retreat and try to get away. In his last effort of retaliation, he swatted her hard against the temple, enough for Lynx to lie unconscious in the broken glass and torn railings of the cabin.

Chapter Seven: The Aftermath

Bruised and battered, Lynx awoke and surveyed the damage. The cabin was a mere shell of what it used to be; there would be much to rebuild. Christian had crawled to the steps of the doorway in a half human half wolf state before he collapsed. Lynx believed him dead. The few Fenris wolves that came as backup were sprawled into various sections of the humble cabin, all dead or fading fast.

She looked around and tossed up debris in her search. There was so much devastation, so much carnage. There were moments that she flashed back to the nightmare of finding her grandmother torn to pieces in this very cabin. However, these were not beloved family members; these were the creatures responsible for her demise. Lynx was not sorry, she was not apologetic.

In the fury of the fight she had lost track of Grayson. It was he she sought out in the rubble. Dust settled and the thunderous beginning of a storm fast approached. It was there, in the distance, she saw Grayson limping toward her in wolf form. There were bits of fur missing and a noticeable hobble to his walk, but otherwise fine. Lynx felt an outpouring of relief flood her body as she ran to him, arms outstretched.

"I was so worried" she said to him as she cried on his shoulder. "I couldn't find you and there were so many of them."

"I'll never leave you, Lynx, I promised you that and I meant it." Grayson spoke to her in a pained voice as he slowly shifted back into human form. It was then that Lynx could see the damage. His once perfect torso was slashed and scarred, while his leg needed stitches and bandaging. There was a long line that was starting to heal that went from his neck to his hip, a gruesome image to view. Still, he was breathtakingly handsome in Lynx's eyes, even more now that he fought against his home pack to be by her side.

"I heard a cry when I was battling Christian. I was so worried."

"I was able to get the two he brought with him. Thankfully, they were smaller, younger wolves and didn't have good training. I think Christian thought that it would just be you here tonight and that three against one would be enough." Grayson spoke quickly, trying not to think about what may have happened had he not been here. Lynx had used much of her energy in the days leading to the cabin battle and he held himself to blame for that.

"Let's get you some help, Grayson." Lynx offered, as they walked toward the car.

Grayson stopped, looked at her and cupped her face in his hands. "I love you Lynx. No matter what happens from here on out, I'm with you, always."

"I know, I do. Mated for life." She whispered as she leaned in for a kiss. "Let's just see what tomorrow brings, okay?"
