“I love you,” she murmured as soon as she recovered.
“I don’t deserve it. But I feel the same, Sweetheart.” He collapsed, heavy and warm. His breathing was still rough, but in time it leveled out.
She nuzzled his neck so near her lips. He tasted of all the things she loved so much—the man, leather, and heaven. After he pulled out of her, he went into the bathroom. While she kept her eyes closed and listened to his limp on return, her mind bumped and rolled over the events of the past hours.
He felt the same. She’d seen the light in his eyes and felt a hundred percent of his love pour through her. But she wanted to hear those three words.
The crack of his palm against her ass cheek made her gasp. A second spank and she cried out. The mattress dipped under her, and he was there, huge and solid, tucking her close. She sighed, her head resting on his chest as they drifted through their after-haze.
“A good end to the day.” She brushed some hair away from her face.
He eyed her. “You scared the hell out of me.”
“Good.” She bounced up to straddle him. To trap him. She was going to get those three words if she had to find her own ways to torture. When she leaned back and stared down into his eyes, pure happiness filtered into her.
“How is it good to scare the hell out of me, Sarah?”
“Because you feel more alive than you have in years. I see it on you. But I want to hear how you feel about me again.”
He stared into her eyes for a long minute. When he brushed the wisps of her hair away from her cheek, she quivered in anticipation. He leaned in to stamp her lips hard. Just as she began to tingle with brand new, insatiable need, he broke the kiss.
“Sweetheart…your name fits you so well. You’re all things good about the club wrapped into one sexy body. You’re hard-ass enough to complete missions men won’t go on. You can defend yourself and stand up to the guys without blinking. But you hold us together with your presence. And you have the softest touch.” He took her hand and rested it over his heart.
She grew more awed by his words by the second. She didn’t think of herself in those ways at all. She was just Sarah, the club girl who didn’t make much of a difference among the family she loved.
But maybe she was wrong.
Connall kissed her again, gently this time. “I love you, woman. Don’t ever doubt.”
With a happy squeal, she threw her arms around him. He’d said it once, and for her that was enough. She understood her bad-boy doctor well enough to know he was a man of few words. If she never heard it again, it was all right. That was the good part of being who she was—she knew just what to expect. And she’d hold it close in her heart for the rest of her days.
