Chapter Four

Three Weeks Later, North Carolina

“How come North Carolina is just as damn hot as Texas?” Shauna asked from the patio. Dressed in a strapless tank top, blue jean shorts and sandals, Shauna couldn’t get any cooler by removing her clothes.

Susan giggled. “It’s May in the South. You can’t tell me it doesn’t get hot, if not hotter down in Atlanta. Don’t they call it Hotlanta?”

Shauna nodded, but sipped more of her margarita all the same.

Over by the grill, Devin and Dillon spoke in low tones and laughed. Each held a beer in one hand and wore sunglasses. Susan noted how the brothers didn’t look that much alike. Dillon had blond hair and was taller than Devin. Darker and shorter, Devin was the younger brother, and the devilish one, according to Dillon. Not that it mattered. Both of the men could’ve been culled from any issue of
GQ
magazine.

“So, how goes the wedding plans?” Susan asked and sipped her own peach margarita.

“Going,” Shauna said, and the bitterness threaded through the light words like a knife hidden in a cake sent to a prison—clumsily and obvious. “I mean, I should’ve hired a wedding planner, but hey, too late now.”

“You and Dillon have been together long enough. Just hit Vegas and tie the knot.”

Shauna shook her head. “I’m an only child and the only girl. My momma would kill me. You know how our mommas are, girl. You must be crazy.”

Susan nodded and laughed. She had three other sisters and a brother, and she’d still had the big fluffy wedding with Devin. Her momma would’ve been in Vegas with a shotgun and rope to tie her up and drag her right back to Winston-Salem to have a proper wedding.

“Try not to let it stress you,” Susan said. “Do what you and Dillon feel is right.”

Shauna nodded, hesitated, and then said, “How do you and Devin keep it from getting boring? I love him more than anything, but what is married life really like?”

Susan thought about the black paddle under their bed. They’d just given it a go this morning, and she had to keep adjusting herself in the outdoor patio seat to alleviate the quiet burn from the paddling he’d given her. In fact, her clit continued to pulsate each time a flash of small agony burst through her when she didn’t sit just right. Her panties were more than drenched, but she and Devin had guests, so…they’d have to wait.

“Susan? Suussann…,” Shauna said and waved at her.

Susan had completely lost herself in the memory of the morning.

“Oh, sorry!” she said. “You just find ways to keep it creative and compromise.”

“That sounds easy,” Shauna said and relaxed into her chair.

Susan met Devin’s eyes, and he winked at her.

“Hey, baby, come help me find something upstairs,” Devin said and walked over to her.

Susan nodded and without another word disappeared into their living room. Once out of view, she and Devin ran up the stairs to their bedroom, shut the door, and locked it. Devin snatched her skirt up over her thong and grabbed her ass, making her wince and tremble all at the same time.

He spun her around and tossed her onto the bed, ass up.

“Fuck, I’ve been thinking about this morning since they got here,” he said, rubbing his rigid rod against her still flushed buttocks.

“Me too!” she said and pushed herself up until she was on all fours. “Do it!”

“Anything for you, Susan,” Devin said.

Smack!
