My mouth hangs open. Did I just hear what I thought I heard? I look at Javar Les. We share the same expression.
“Speaking of the devil…” he says.
“Holy shit…”
Angelina rushes into the kitchen. “Okay we’re loading up!”
I point up at the TV.
“How Jack Lord’s bid to own one of the most prestigious landmarks in Chicago is tied to his questionable past, coming up in the next hour,” the anchorwoman says, concluding the news-bite.
Angelina looks stunned. “What questionable past?”
“It’s a long, dead and buried story. Can you go without me?” I ask.
She nods emphatically. “Yes, yes… Absolutely.”
I fumble my cell phone out of my purse and call Monroe. Two rings and she answers. “Guess what?”
“What?” she says.
“We have ourselves a new client.”
