Amy took a deep breath and rolled her shoulders. It was now or never. She turned and smiled at Kristen, who looked absolutely stunning in her dress and veil.
“Ready?” Amy whispered.
“It’s now or never,” Kristen said.
Amy chuckled. “My thinking exactly. Good luck.”
Kristen smiled to her friend, then Amy turned and started walking slowly up the church aisle, smiling at everyone she knew as she passed them in the pews. She’d been avoiding making eye contact with Logan since she’d walked into the church. But as she stopped in front, her eyes moved to his and she felt her knees go a little weak. Which was the reason she’d avoided eye contact in the first place.
Taking a few deep breaths, she looked to the back of the church when the music changed and felt tears sting her eyes as Kristen started walking down the aisle on her father’s arm.
Glancing over, she watched Aiden’s expression and felt a tear escape when she noticed his wet eyes. How could she have known there was so much love out there? Her eyes moved to the right side, to where her parents sat, holding hands, and Amy felt like laughing.
She would have never imagined in a million years that their relationship would have worked the way that it did. That because of a stupid piece of paper and vows said in front of loved ones, they couldn’t make it work together. But take all that away and they were perfect for each other.
Glancing once more at Logan, she felt her heart flutter knowing that it didn’t matter if there was a piece of paper, or a building on fire, she would love this man until her dying breath. No matter what.
She stood in front of the church and listened to her best friend read her own vows. By the time Aiden was done with his, there wasn’t a dry eye in the church. Then everyone laughed as Kristen stumbled when the priest told Aiden he could kiss his bride. She’d tripped right into his arms and he didn’t waste a single moment as he planted his lips over hers and everyone cheered.
The reception was held a few doors down at the historic Golden Hotel. The entire ballroom was decked out, thanks to the best bridesmaids a girl could ever have.
The dance floor was crowded as everyone enjoyed their time into the night. The food was delicious, the cake beautiful, and the mood was so romantic, Amy doubted anything could have been more perfect.
When Logan pulled her onto the dance floor, she was a little shocked that no one else was dancing, then the room went silent as a spotlight shone down on them.
“Amy, I’ve been wanting to do this since the first time I said ‘I love you’ . . .” The entire room
aahed
in unison. “So, Aiden and Kristen graciously allowed me a moment in the spotlight.” He glanced up as everyone chuckled. Then they went silent again as he bent down on one knee and pulled a small black box from his jacket pocket.
“Amy Walker, I’d go through heaven and hell to be with you. I want to grow old and raise puppies and kids with you. With you next to me, I’d be the luckiest man alive. Will you marry me?”
She wiped the tears from her eyes and nodded. “Yes, of course I will.”
