The next morning I got e-mail from Diane. Anne had called and the two girls had talked into the wee hours of the morning. Diane had explained many things about the BDSM world to her in intimate detail. She had further described her life as my sub and she said at one point she was explaining to this absolute stranger the best ways to please me. She had even given Anne our e-mail "code" for many of the things we had done in the past.

She apologized for this and felt that this may have somehow damaged or diminished our relationship. Anne had an Internet account and had told Diane about it and had asked her to pass her address on to me as she had given her mine.

I quickly wrote her back and told her I was not mad, but to check with me next time before giving away our secrets. If she really needed it I gave her a small penance to pay, to be administered by her temporary Dom (5 lashes with the handmade Suede Cat I had given her). I knew this was a "toy" she really loved a Cat o' 9 tails made of wide soft suede

All was right with the world again. Chores caught up, bills paid, my house back into reasonable shape, I was already dreading the aftermath at work from the previous week.

About mid-afternoon I logged on the Internet for a web search on some new hardware for the home computer system. Before logging off I checked mail and found a message from an address that I didn't know, but that looked familiar. I checked the last message from Diane, and confirmed it was Anne's address.

The message was brief and to the point.

Subject: Meeting

Sir:

I am requesting a meeting to discuss the application SOFTWare

A.

This immediately caught my interest "Application
SOFTWare" was our code for a sub. Most of our codes were such that they could be received on both personal and business E-mail accounts without arousing suspicion. My company frequently monitors E-mail to make sure that proprietary information is not leaking to an outside source making such precautions necessary. My reply was quick and to the point. I did not want a casual relationship.

You should now know my feelings on vaporware. Unless the application
SOFTWare is supported long term, there is no point in this meeting.

This was my code for saying she had to commit to this for at least a couple of weeks. I was not running an amusement ride for the thrill seeker. After hitting the send button, I had a few regrets and it had been a lonely few months. My work was keeping me very busy and even visiting some of the fetish clubs in the area was getting to be too difficult considering the distances and time involved.

I finished my web search and read some postings on several newsgroups. When I checked mail again, I was surprised to find messages from both Anne and Diane.

Diane had written to say she had another phone call and she had "decoded" my last message and what it really meant. She further went on to say that she was quite happy about this turn of events and that I should answer her and
accede to her plea.

Anne's message was again brief:

Subject: Meeting

Sir,

I understand your concern. I would be willing to support long term. I am again requesting a meeting on the acceptance of application SOFTWare.

At this point I was somewhat bemused. An accidental sub had just fallen into my lap! Well the game is played in many ways so a response was quickly sent. At least she corrected her previous lack of deference and referred to herself in lower case. She was asking questions and picking up on the subtle nuances of how I had done things in the past rather quickly.

Meeting approved, same place as last time, 1905 hours (7:05 PM). Make no other preparations. The requirements for acceptance of application
SOFTWare will be detailed at meeting.

When I clicked on the send button this time I had to chuckle, this would be an interesting evening after all, no
vegging out in front of the TV tonight. I finished my work and checked the clock. I needed to clean up and get ready to go. Even considering the travel distance and allowing for traffic, this would not be a problem.

I would be near work. If she didn't show up or decided to leave, I could slip into work and check on the network prior to going home. It could make a few brownie points with the boss if things did not work out. Seemed like a win-win situation regardless of the outcome.

At 7:00 I was sitting in about the same place as Friday, watching my watch (set to within .1 second of National Bureau of Standards time) and the door. I had decided to have a drink after all, it would have looked out of place otherwise and that precluded playing tonight, I don't mix play and alcohol.

At 7:06 she walked in and spotted me. She visibly hesitated for a couple of seconds, then walked up to give me a kiss on the cheek and saying "Hi Honey, can we get a booth?" I was quite pleased with the way she had handled this. I usually insist that our public personas remain normal. This close to work I wanted everything to look ordinary. She was dressed the same way she was on Friday, a modest business outfit. I did notice that her hair and face were immaculately made up and styled. I found her quite attractive.

We were shown to a booth. I asked her drink preference and ordered for her. She followed my lead and asked for white wine. We were finally alone after her drink was delivered, and she did ask about the drinks. “Diane said you never drink and play,” she said in a low voice. “Does this mean that nothing will happen tonight?”

“Nothing will happen tonight other than a little conversation. The lifestyle I have chosen is intense. Alcohol impairs judgment. I won't mix them even a little bit. The same goes for any form of medication or drug. I won't mix those as well.” She was looking at me, obviously trying to figure out how to act. “I'm sure you have lots of questions, let me try and answer them. I'll explain some about what might happen or what you might expect”. When I saw that pretty head nod yes, I smiled at her to encourage her.

She blurted out her first question. “Would I have to wear anything strange in public or to work?” She looked around the bar then continued. “Diane said something about a collar.”

I could see where this was going so I started to explain about that. “I insist on keeping a sub reminded of her submission. Yes, in private you may wear a collar, in public, I use something very subtle. Tell me, do you ever wear a necklace?” She looked a little uncomfortable but nodded yes. “Have you ever wondered if an anklet or ring might mean something else?” Her eyes were wide at this and I saw a slight nod of her head so I continued. “I may have you wear a necklace and fix it so that you could not remove it. You may wear that or wear other jewelry that I command.”

“But in public - what clothing would I wear in public! I just can't run around like some of the people I see!” She seemed to have concerns about that as well. The panic I was hearing in her voice was very real. Time to put some of her fears to rest. I took her hand and felt it trembling and pulse racing. I sat with her a minute and told her to take a sip of her wine.

“Outwardly you will maintain a very normal appearance, “Vanilla” as some call it. Behind closed doors or with me at scene parties are very different!” She was listening to me to me now and the trembling had stopped. I continued with some of what I would expect.

I told of her of the things I might demand and some of the things she could expect. Some of the rituals I might demand. During the course of the conversation she blushed, flushed and at one point got very pale.

When I finished she looked very thoughtful. She finally found her voice after another sip of wine. ”After I talked to Diane last night I found myself fascinated. This is all, very scary, crazy and exciting at the same time.” She paused and took another sip of her wine. “I can't believe I'm actually here in a bar talking about this. I'm also having a hard time believing that people actually pursued this lifestyle.”

“Did Diane tell you of the Safe Word system that I use?” I asked. “She shook her head yes and then said, “She touched on it but did not explain it all.”

“I prefer and use a three tiered system and for a novice, like a Stop Light. It's something most everyone can relate to. I use green, yellow and red. The sub can use her safe word at any time. If I say "Safe word" I expect a response at one of these levels. Green meaning go on or continue I'm just fine. Yellow meaning caution or slow down. I'm close to my limit. Red meaning STOP HALT QUIT, I'm past my limit. Does that help understand how it works?”

“Yes that helps but I still don't believe I'm actually thinking about this.” In my further talking to her I found out that after talking to Diane last night she had asked questions and more importantly listened to Diane and learned quite a lot.

I did find out some about her by turning the conversation to her life and through some careful questioning. She was divorced, a son in college and was living alone. She worked for a travel agency, was in mid level management and was used to making hard decisions all day. Having someone else make decisions for her was appealing to her. She had a townhouse 5 minutes from the bar where we were sitting.

About 9:00 and another glass of wine later she looked up as if she had made up her mind about something. “What do we do now?” She finally asked.

“I don't believe that you are ready for all that all that I might ask. You are just too new to this. You will follow me to my home I'll loan you some things to read and watch and give you some time to think about this.” I paid the bill and left without as much as a goodbye, leaving her to make a quick decision. She did follow me home in her car.

About an hour later she was at my house and I was collecting items to loan her. I had parked her on the sofa and had her sipping on a soft drink while I gathered the items. One of videos was the "submission ceremony" of Diane. Also included was the Video tape "Story of O" The Anne Rice "Beauty" Series, a John Norman "Gor" novel, An Ironwood novel and a print out of URL's I frequent and a newsgroup list.

What else can I show you tonight? I asked her. “Diane said something about a toy bag. What's that?” I went to my bedroom got it out of the closet. The gray nondescript tote bag held my gear. I divide my treasures into two piles “Punish” or “Pleasure”. I put the whips and crops and floggers together. Then the cuffs and collars and straps and some of the more esoteric item together. She had never seen nipple clamps or for that matter figured that clothespins might have other uses.

When she picked those clamps up she looked at me with a question on her face and I said, “Nipple clamps” She dropped them like they had gotten hot but I saw they had aroused her. I watched as she picked the items up one by one and examined them. As she picked a flogger up and ran the leather tails through her fingers I saw her eyes close and her body had an involuntary shudder. The look on her face was vulnerable and trapped like she did not what to do next. I just gave her a hug.

I then gently dismissed her with the following instructions; “You will read and watch what you can by next Thursday. Think very hard about what you are getting into. Whatever you decide by next Friday at noon send me email with you answer, all I want is a yes or no in the subject line. If the answer was yes, you will be given further instructions. If the answer was no, drop of what I have loaned you by Saturday noon.” I then saw her to her car and gently seated belted her in, then turned and left.

She went home, I went to bed. Knowing that next week was going to be a bear I wanted some rest. At this point I expected that I had scared her and her answer would be a NO. She would return the books and videos and run like a scared doe. I had no patience for the "casual curious" or the "me too" mentality that I seemed to attract. Sunday saw me getting my remaining yard work done. Edging, trimming, weeding and working myself into a mild but pleasant exhaustion.

As expected, the next week at work was busy. A number of our vendors had come up with fixes and patches so a repeat of last week could be minimized. I was directing much of this work with only the random thought on what Anne's answer might be. Much of the work had to be done during "off peak" hours so I ended up putting in lots of hours again. Thursday saw most of the work completed and a return to almost normal hours. Frankly, I was looking forwarded to some sleep. I did receive mail from Diane and learned that the two of them had talked several times on the phone.
