Johnathan whistled to himself in the shower.
He whistled while he shaved. He whistled while he worked.

“Dad! Could you cut out the stupid whistling?
Please?” His boys groused and complained, but secretly they liked
that he seemed so happy.

Johnathan couldn’t wait to talk to Katie
later. He knew he’d have to be patient and take things slowly, but
he hoped he could convince her that his idea was a good one. He
smiled to himself thinking about her voice on the phone. The one
night he’d allowed his Dominant side to show, he’d heard her voice
change. He imagined her entire body softening in the same way.

Still whistling, he picked up his phone. His
jaw tightened as he read Katie’s text message. She always assumed
the worst, didn’t she? He sighed in frustration. Thankfully,
Johnathan was a very patient man. He knew he would find a way to
alleviate her fears and suspicions – eventually.

“Silly girl. You always assume the worst. I
want to talk to you about something good. We’ll talk later.”

Sighing as he set down his phone, he wondered
what he would have to do to penetrate the walls she’d built around
herself. He spent a few minutes catching up on Katie’s blog posts.
Between work and the boys’ needs, he hadn’t had as much time as he
would have liked. She still wrote very sexual posts, but he could
sense the doubts, the pain, and even panic in her words.

Katie was scared. Johnathan decided he would
do everything in his power to alleviate her fears and stay constant
and consistent for her. She needed to know she could depend on him,
that he was a man of his word. If she would get out of her own head
and out of her own way, she would see that for herself.

Ah well, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and
Katie’s walls won’t come down any quicker.
Johnathan shook off
the thoughts. Each day he found thoughts of Katie creeping in more
often. Not thinking about her was a rare occurrence.

“Focus, man, focus,” muttered Johnathan.
Turning his attention to his latest project, he forgot everything
else around him.

DING!

Startled, Johnathan looked around the room.
The light had changed as the sun moved across the sky. Hours passed
without his notice. Feeling drained, Johnathan still wasn’t sure
what the sound was or where it came from.

DING!

His phone! Johnathan found it under a stack
of print-outs. A message from Katie. Johnathan smiled.

“Oh. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have
assumed.”

“No, you shouldn’t have. But it’s ok. Can I
call you tonight? Usual time?”

Johnathan waited for Katie’s reply. Drumming
his fingers against the table, he looked at the clock and realized
not only had the day gotten away from him, he hadn’t eaten in
hours. At that moment, his stomach chimed in, growling and gurgling
in displeasure.

DING!

“Only if you want to. No pressure, I
promise.”

Sighing and rolling his eyes, he refused to
dignify Katie’s message with a response. He thought about what he
had in mind when he called tonight, and he felt his cock
twitch.

“Whoa there, boy, it’s just a phone call.”
Johnathan looked down at his crotch and wondered how just thoughts
of talking to her could do this to him.

With the tap of a few buttons, he pulled up
her picture on his phone and smiled. Dark, smiling eyes stared back
at him. He loved the sparkle he saw in them. He imagined how soft
her nearly black hair would feel in his hand. He wanted to lick and
nibble her full lips and kiss her cheeks. Was that the hint of a
dimple he saw?

The longer he stared at Katie, the more
insistent his cock became. The twitch turned into a persistent
pulse against his zipper. He felt his balls draw up and tighten a
little.
Stomach or cock
, thought Johnathan. He looked at
Katie’s picture and felt himself twitch again.

Cock.

Johnathan closed and locked his office door.
Unbuttoning his fly, he felt his hard flesh spring forward.
Gripping the shaft firmly, he began to stroke himself. A dribble of
precum pooled at the tip. He slid his fingers over the moisture,
lubricating his skin. His hand slid up and down effortlessly.
Brushing his fingers across the bulbous head, Johnathan hissed in
pleasure.

With each pump of his hand, Johnathan thought
of Katie. First he thought of her eyes, shining at him from the
picture. He gripped himself tighter as he thought of her lips and
how much he wanted to taste them. His hand flew up and down as he
mentally constructed her in his mind’s eyes until he thought of her
voice again. The sound of her voice changing from an in-control
business woman to a soft, willing babygirl sent him over the edge.
The pressure built to a breaking point and just when he thought he
couldn’t take one more second, he exploded. Hot jets of sticky
fluid shot over his hand and down his pants.

With a bemused smile, Johnathan looked down.
He hoped he could get from his office to his bedroom without anyone
seeing him. He didn’t feel like dealing with the boys or his sister
and their knowing looks.

Shoving his shaft back into his pants,
Johnathan looked at the clock. In another hour, he would call Katie
and ask her his big question. In the meantime, he needed to clean
up and eat – in that order. His stomach wouldn’t let him wait much
longer for food. Feeling much more relaxed, he ventured down the
hallway, whistling to himself.

Katie paced around in her living room. Olivia
was finally down for the evening. Katie knew she wasn’t sleeping
because she could hear her singing songs and talking to her dolls,
but at least she was in her room. Something about talking to
Johnathan turned her into a blushing, giggling girl, and she didn’t
want to have to divide her attention between him and Olivia.

She refused to dwell too much on the intense
relief she felt after Johnathan’s text message came through earlier
in the day. She wouldn’t think about how quickly her mood reversed
and how slowly the day passed by as she waited impatiently for
their phone call. And she wouldn’t consider dissecting the fact
that she was impatiently pacing.

Collapsing into the couch with a small huff,
Katie opened her laptop and absentmindedly checked email and blog
comments. Every few seconds, her eyes darted to the clock. Could
time possibly go any slower?

“I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500
more …”

Smiling at her ringtone, Katie grabbed the
phone and took a deep breath. Stay calm, Katie, stay cool.

“Hello?” Johnathan smiled at the sweet
hesitancy in Katie’s voice.

“Hey there!” She always melted a little at
the deep baritone of his voice.

All of Katie’s nervousness faded away as they
chatted. She chattered away about the most recent bout of office
politics during the day and her newest project. He chuckled to
himself as she backtracked to explain the thoughts she’d had before
she spoke. With Katie, you could never complain you didn’t have all
the information.

As Johnathan talked about his day, Katie
imagined what his office might look like. She loved hearing about
his latest projects, amazed at his ability to successfully work at
home doing what he loved. She had so many ideas for how he could
promote his business, if he wanted to, but maybe he didn’t need
that kind of help.

Their conversation wound down a bit after all
the news of day was shared between them. Katie hesitated to ask
Johnathan what he wanted to talk about that was so important. She
was still afraid she might not want to know.

Johnathan cleared his throat. “Katie, I have
a question for you.”

“Ok.” She hated how shaky her voice sounded
in her own ears.

“Let me back up. I’ve been thinking about
something.”

Katie stayed silent. She was usually quick
with something to say, often interrupting Johnathan,
unintentionally of course. Waiting for the entire story would be
better, she decided.

“I love our conversations. I really enjoy our
emails back and forth. I look forward to your texts each day.”
Johnathan’s voice was measured and controlled. He knew she might
not be convinced in this first conversation but he would do his
best to make his point.

“I want more, though. Before you get all
nervous, I don’t mean a relationship. But I want to see you in
person. I want to sit across a table from you and have these
conversations.”

Katie’s breathing changed as her heart began
to pound. What was he saying? What did he want?

“Katie, can I take you to dinner?”

Silence hung between them. Katie wasn’t sure
what to say. Her mind raced. She couldn’t deny to herself that she
wanted to meet Johnathan in person. She was intrigued by him, and
their conversations were always so much fun. Doubts lingered,
though.

“What if we don’t hit it off? What if we’re
better over the phone? What if I bore you or disappoint you or
spill my drink down my shirt like the dork that I am?” Katie’s
words toppled over each other as panic filled her voice.

“Hey, hey, whoa now. Calm down.” Johnathan’s
voiced softened in an effort to calm Katie. “If we don’t hit it
off, highly unlikely by the way, we’ll know, and we’ll continue
being digital pen pals, right? You haven’t bored me or disappointed
me ever, so I doubt that’s likely. And if you spill your drink down
your shirt, I’ll hand you napkins, pay the tab, and find a store
that will happily sell us another one.”

Despite herself, Katie smiled. Johnathan
sounded so sure, so in control. Maybe this was possible. Maybe this
wouldn’t be horrible. The idea of meeting him made excited her and
made her nauseous.

“Um, can I think about it?” Katie desperately
wanted to say yes, but she was so afraid.

“Of course you can. Will you answer me one
question?”

“Yes.”

“Will you tell me why you’re so afraid?”

“I just did.” Her voice sounded petulant even
to her.

“What are you really afraid of?” Why did he
have to sound so kind and patient?

“I’m afraid of liking you too much. I’m
afraid of getting hurt. I’m afraid that I’m feeling things I’m not
ready to feel. THAT’S what I’m afraid of!” Katie’s voice became
more panicked and shrill as she spoke.

“Ok, Katie, ok. It’s ok, I promise. Let’s
just take this one day at a time. Dinner between friends, ok? Will
that be ok?”

Katie wanted to say yes so badly that she
ached. Her heart ached; her arms ached; everything ached.

Sometimes you have to close your eyes and
leap
, she thought to herself.

“Ok, yes, that would be nice. I think I’d
like that.” Katie’s voice was soft, and Johnathan strained to hear
her words.

“Yes? Yes?! Woohoo!” Johnathan’s excitement
was contagious, and Katie smiled.

Later that night, they both reflected on the
evening’s conversation.

Katie’s stomach flipped and flopped; she
thought she might vomit at any moment. She was glad she’d talked
Johnathan down from a dinner date. Coffee, tea in her case, felt
less like a date, even if she was already planning what she would
wear.

Johnathan smiled to himself. Ok, so the first
meeting was coffee. He could live with that; coffee was a good
start. He began to plan how he would wear her down to agree to a
full-fledged dinner date.

In separate beds, they both fell asleep
smiling, dreaming, and wondering what the future would hold.

Katie sat in her car, staring at the door of
her coffee place. Why had she agreed to this location? She was a
regular. They knew her by name and order. What would Johnathan
think? Katie gripped the steering wheel in an attempt to focus.

“Calm down, babygirl. It’s coffee and tea.
This isn’t a date. This isn’t a date. This isn’t a date!” Katie
whispered the words over and over again.

She shouldn’t have let Johnathan push her
into meeting so soon after their conversation. She felt rushed. She
wasn’t ready for this. She’d never be ready for this. Oh God, was
she going to vomit?

“Damn it, get a grip!” Frustrated with
herself, Katie growled the words. She was supposed to be a strong,
independent woman who didn’t need anyone. She needed to start
acting the part, at least until the meeting with Johnathan was
over.

Katie looked at herself in the rearview
mirror. Hair somewhat decent. Lipgloss firmly in place. This was as
good as she was going to get, she decided. Jeans, boots, a purple
sweater – nothing too dressy, and she felt confident in her
appearance. Taking a deep breath, Katie grabbed her bag and opened
the car door.

DING! A text from Johnathan.

“Already here. Sitting at the table in the
corner. Enter at will.”

Swallowing hard, Katie shook her hair back
and desperately tried to look calm and confident. She opened the
door and looked around.

“Tall non-fat chai latte, Katie?” The perky
voice made Katie cringe internally.
So much for flying under the
radar today.

“Yes, please.” She smiled at the barista and
walked up to pay.

“I’ve got it.” A familiar male voice came
from behind her. Katie turned around.

Johnathan smiled. Her pictures didn’t do her
justice. The dark lashes, the pretty purple frames of her glasses,
the shape of her lips, he wanted to drink Katie in. Pulling his
gaze away, he paid the girl behind the counter, barely
acknowledging her. He guided Katie over to a plush chair at the
corner table.

“Be right back. I’ll go get your tea.” Katie
nodded silently; she’d lost her voice the moment she laid eyes on
him.

“Here you go.” Setting her drink in front of
her, Johnathan sat down and looked directly at Katie. He couldn’t
take his eyes off of her. She looked away, blushing.
