CHAPTER TWELVE

Devin

B
liss. Bliss was my mate’s name. It was so appropriate, because I was in a state of bliss that I’d finally found her. Letting her leave last night was the hardest thing I ever had to do. My instincts clamored at me to go get her, bring her to my home, and mate her. To hell with the vampire claiming. But, in reality, she was scared, confused, and also Micha’s. I just couldn’t take her away from him and sequester us until she accepted me.

I hadn’t envisioned having to share my mate when I’d dreamed of finding her one day. I’d often dreamed that she’d be wolf also, strong, independent, and a good fighter. She’d have to be all those things to be the mate of an Alpha and breed sons to carry my line. Bliss, however was half vampire and half human, though she only smelled human. If it hadn’t been for those small fangs, I wouldn’t have been able to tell she was vampire.

She was short, plump, and beautiful. Those deep brown eyes and dark hair just did it for me. I’d always been partial to blondes, but from the moment I touched her on that dance floor I felt protective and thoroughly attached to her. It didn’t matter that she wasn’t wolf. I’d been honest with Micha when I told him I’d kill to have her. I’d hate to kill a friend and possibly start a wolf/vampire war over a half human but damn it, she was my mate!

I dialed the number Micha had reluctantly given me. It was her personal cell phone. It was early afternoon so I wondered if she’d still be asleep. She was half vampire after all.

“Hello?” Her sweet, soft voice came across the line and I was instantly hard.

“Bliss, hello. It’s Devin Richardson.”

There was a moment of silence. “Hi,” she said simply.

“I want to apologize for frightening you last night. I…was taken aback by finding my mate in my club.”

“Are you sure I’m your mate Devin? Because really, one mate is more than enough for me. Trying to learn to be a good mate to Micha is hard enough, I can’t imagine trying to be a good mate to a wolf. Did I tell you wolves scare me? I avoid them at all cost.” She spoke quickly, trying to get it all out. I couldn’t help but smile.

“Last night when I took your arm, did you feel the current that ran through us?” I asked her.

A hesitant “yes” was her response. I smiled again.

“Even now, just over the phone, the current is running through us. Every time I touched you or looked at you last night, you felt the mating current. Baby, you are my mate,” I reassured her.

She sighed. “I’m scared,” she said with a wealth of emotion. Oh, how I wished I was there with her so I could show her there was nothing to fear from me.

“Oh baby, I know but you don’t have to be. I’d never hurt you. I’ve waited a really long time to find my mate and I would never do anything to make you regret being her.” I wanted to hold her, kiss her, reassure her that a wolf mate would never harm his mate in any way.

“I just don’t see this working out, Devin. I just can’t see how.”

“We’ll figure it out sweetheart. Me, you, and Micha. We’ll work it out,” I told her confidently. There was no other way. We’d have to work it out.

“Is it true that wolves are allergic to silver?” She asked changing the subject.

“For the most part. The older we get the more resilient we become to it. That bracelet you wore covering my mark, it’s silver isn’t it?” I tried hard to keep the edge out of my voice. Those damn guardians of hers.

“Yes. Would my bracelet hurt you?” I could hear her fidgeting with something.

“It would sting a little. Don’t cover my mark Bliss.” I growled. I wanted her to be proud to wear my mark.

“I’m not. I can’t. Since last night, your mark burns.”

“The mark will make itself known until you are claimed sweetheart. It shouldn’t be too uncomfortable, just don’t cover it up. Promise me.”

“Devin…” She began and I couldn’t hold back the unhappy growl.

“Don’t growl at me Devin Richardson!” she reprimanded. Again, I couldn’t help but smile. She may be a little timid about having a wolf mate but that didn’t keep her from standing up to me.

“Please baby. Don’t hide my mark. Promise me.” I pleaded again. I don’t know why it bothered me so much. I wanted everyone to see that mark and know she belonged to me. I couldn’t wait to be able to put my scent on her so there would be no question as to who she belonged too.

“I promise. I have to go now Devin.”

“Thank you sweetheart. I’ll see you later.” I didn’t mention that it would be that very night at the home of her guardians.

“Bye.” She didn’t wait for me to respond but just hung up. I smiled again. I disconnected the call and put my phone back in my pocket. I needed to finish some paperwork here at the club then head back to the Ranch to take care of a few pack issues. Then, in a few short hours, I’d get to see my mate again. Bliss, ah yes, my Bliss.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Bliss

I
put the phone down on the table next to the couch and stared at it for a minute. Devin Richardson, a wolf, was my mate. A wolf. I shook my head. I just couldn’t do it. There was no way I could let a wolf touch me to claim me. I looked down at my wrist at the marks there. One gave me to a Dominant Vampire who initially hadn’t wanted a mate, the other gave me to a wolf who was more than happy to have finally found his mate.

How was this going to work? I just couldn’t see it happening. Was Micha willing to share his mate? Did he even care one way or another about the whole situation? He’d been really upset last night but I think it was more over the fact that my guardians had lied and hid the truth about a second mate from him.

I rubbed my temples absently. My head felt like it was going to explode and there was a dull ache in my stomach. I needed blood, so I had to go to Micha. He’d risen early and was in his office taking care of vampire business. I pulled the sleeves of my shirt down to cover my wrists and got up from the couch. The minute I was standing I swayed on my feet. I needed to get to Micha before I passed out.

I walked to his office door and was surprised to see it ajar. I knocked on it anyway, to get his attention. Those cool blue eyes warned me he was still upset. The zap of our connection sent me swaying again. Micha was in front of me in an instant.

“Bliss,” he said simply, taking hold of my biceps to hold me up.

“I’m sorry to bother you Micha, but I need blood.” I swallowed, trying to wet my dry throat.

“Come,” he instructed taking my hand and leading me to the large leather couch. He sat down, leaving me to stand between his thighs. “Kneel.”

I hesitated for only a moment before dropping to my knees before him. I waited for him to bite into his wrist and offer it to me but instead he started to unbutton his shirt.

“Micha?” I asked nervously. The gums around my fangs throbbed then I felt them lengthen, when he exposed his chest.

“Your fangs are growing Bliss. Last night, you took from me using those beautiful little fangs. Today you can do the same.” He pulled me closer to his body so that I was cradled between his thighs.

I shook my head at him.

“It wasn’t a request. Take what you need mate,” he said, turning his head so I could see the carotid artery in his neck throbbing with the beat of his heart. My mouth watered.

The details of what happened between us last night fluttered through my mind, leaving me moaning in need. My hands found the sculpted muscles and dark splattering of hair of his chest. I rubbed my nails against his nipples making them bud. I licked my lips once again, focusing my eyes on his neck.

“Feed Bliss,” he instructed gruffly, pulling me closer still.

I leaned into him, kissing his chest, working my way up to his neck. I ran my tongue across the artery once, twice, a third time. “I’m sorry” I whispered just before I struck. I buried my fangs as deep as they’d go in his vein, pulling his sweet blood into my mouth. Micha buried his hand in my hair, holding me in place.

“Drink baby. Take as much as you need,” he caressed my back before gripping my ass cheeks in his palms. I could feel the hard ridge of him against my stomach. My panties were drenched, my clit throbbed. I wanted him with every fiber of my being.

After I took my fill, I pulled my fangs from his vein, licking the holes closed. I kissed his neck one last time. I pulled away from him and he turned to look at me. His fangs were fully extended and his eyes were shining bright. He looked dangerous.

“Take me Micha.”

He groaned just before he took my lips with his own. His fangs rubbed against my bottom lip but he was careful not to cut me. Our tongues dueled and yet he still deepened the kiss. I felt like I was drowning in him. I pulled away for a breath.

“Please,” I begged.

He nipped my neck causing chill bumps to break out all over my skin. “Soon baby. Very soon,” he promised seductively.

I sighed, pulling away from him. “Thank you for feeding me.”

He kissed my forehead, my cheek, and then finally my lips. “You look exhausted sweetheart. Go lie down and try to get a little more rest before we head out tonight. Is the pain gone?”

I nodded, keeping my eyes downcast. I didn’t want him to see my disappointment at being rejected once again. He began to button up his shirt as he walked over to his desk. He sat back behind it, reaching for a pen. I guess I was dismissed. I took one last look over to him then headed for the door.

“Oh and Bliss, all your pleasure belongs to me. No masturbating in the shower to get yourself off.”

His words stopped me in my tracks. I turned to look at him, well, glare at him. How did he know what I had planned? The bastard.

“Do you understand?” he asked gruffly.

I nodded and he quirked an eyebrow at me. “Yes Sir,” I amended.

He nodded. “Good girl. See you in an hour or so.”

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Micha

I
snapped the pen I was holding in half. Jesus, I was in a hell of my aunt’s making. There was nothing more I wanted than to claim my mate sexually but I wasn’t sure she trusted me enough yet. And, there was the newly discovered fact that my mate also had another mate to consider. Her virginity didn’t belong to me solely anymore. God, what a fucking mess. I shook my head in exasperation.

I looked up at the knock on my door. My brothers were standing there, looking grim. I wondered how long it would take them to seek me out.

“What are you going to do about the wolf?” Dante asked pointedly.

I shrugged. “What can I do? She’s his mate.”

“Are you planning on turning her over to him?” Dante demanded angrily. “Fuck that, I’ll mate her myself before I allow that to happen!” he went on.

“Hell no I’m not turning her over! She’s mine,” I responded just as angrily. The thought of never seeing her again, of never touching her again enraged me.

“Reardon, you spent a good bit of time with Devin and his pack. Reassure me about him,” I instructed gruffly.

“He’s good to the females in the packs. From the youngest to the oldest. He’s protective and I’m guessing he’ll be annoyingly so over Bliss. They mate for life Micha, he’d never cheat on her, he’d never do anything to hurt her. Wolves put their mates first, above everything else. The personal happiness and safety of their mates, mean everything. Devin is a little rough but he’ll be good to her, I have no doubt.”

I nodded in understanding. “Bliss won’t accept him lightly. She’s got some pretty negative thoughts when it comes to wolves.”

“Can you blame her after what happened?” Dante asked.

I shook my head. “No, I can’t.”

“Devin will have his work cut out for him,” Reardon said with a gleeful smile.

He wasn’t the only one, I thought to myself.

The phone on my desk rang so my brothers made themselves scarce. I picked it up noticing that it was the extension down in the clinic.

“Hey doc. What’s up?”

“I have some news Micha. I’m not sure if it’s good news or not,” she said hesitantly.

“Whatever it is, just tell me,” I instructed.

Lucy sighed heavily. “Bliss’ blood work came back from the geneticist. She’s part wolf Micha. That’s what the anomalies are in her blood. Wolf genetics.”

I didn’t know what to say. I ran my hands through my hair roughly. Bliss was not going to be happy to find out that tidbit of info.

“Thanks Lucy. I appreciate you calling me first. I’ll talk to Bliss.”

“Understood.” Lucy responded before hanging up the phone.

God, how was I going to break it to her that she was half of what she despised most in the world?

* * * *

I was beyond furious at my relatives. I couldn’t believe that they’d hide something as important as Bliss having another mate. I paced the study of my Aunt and Uncle’s home, from one wall to the next, waiting for them to make an appearance. Bliss sat on the couch tucked into herself. She would neither look at me, nor was she trying to speak to me. I didn’t blame her. I was in no mood for idle chitchat and with that little secret of her being half wolf bouncing around in my head, I wasn’t fit to have a conversation.

“Micha, Bliss, what brings you by on such a beautiful Fall day?” Uncle Henry asked, walking into the study followed by Aunt Bethell who was carrying a tea service.

“We came to discuss the fact that you hid that Bliss had a Wolf mate,” I said with no pretense of niceties. The tea service clattered to the coffee table.

My Aunt turned to Bliss and hissed at her. “You told him? We told you to never speak of that mark. To never show it! To hide it always!”

Bliss shook her head. “No mother. No. I didn’t. I went dancing and…”

“Dancing! What did I tell you! You were to stop all that foolishness when you went to live with Micha.”

“Mother, please listen.” Bliss tried to explain, but my Aunt just talked over her. Bliss sat back in the couch and curled into herself dejectedly. My Aunt continued to admonish her.

“Enough!” I growled. “Aunt Bethell, Uncle Henry, sit. I’ll explain what happened last night, then you’ll explain why you lied to Bliss when the marks made themselves known.”

They sat on the couch opposite Bliss and listened intently to what I had to say. Aunt Bethell got up and went to Bliss pulling her into her arms, apologizing profusely for haranguing
her.

“Micha, son, you have to understand. We were just trying to protect her. Wolves tried to kill her. We couldn’t turn her over to them for her transition. You are her best bet for survival. We are sorry for the deception but we were doing what was best for our daughter. Protecting her the best way we knew how.”

“You should have told me! The night you called me over here to show me the mark, to introduce me to my mate, you should have told me!” I admonished them both.

My uncle nodded his head respectfully.

“The wolf we’re talking about, isn’t just any wolf. He isn’t a run of the mill, work nine to five wolf. He’s the fucking King of the Packs. He’s their head Alpha. It’s Devin Richardson. She’s the mate of the main man!” I ran my hands through my hair tugging at it lightly.

“He’s just not going to let this go Uncle Henry. He wants her. Unlike Vampires who can have several mates in a lifetime, wolves get one shot, that’s it. One! Bliss is his one shot at happiness, at fulfillment and carrying on his line.” I paced to the other end of the room looking over at Bliss. She was watching me closely, absorbing all I was saying.

“He’s ready to have an all-out battle to the death to claim her. That’s their way after all. If one mate is born to two males, they either share her or fight to the death for her.”

“So share her,” Aunt Bethell said simply. All eyes turned to look at her in shock.

“What did you say?” Bliss asked, eyes wide, disbelief on her face.

Aunt Bethell took Bliss’ hands into her own aged ones. “Sweetheart, think about this. You were born to two mates of two species. Two powerful species. The two leaders of those species. None better could protect you. We don’t know who your parents were or why those wolves came after you all those years ago. We did the best we could to protect you. You need protection. No one protects better than a mate; in your case, two mates.”

Bliss was shaking her head. “You were against this. You lied to me. You made me hide the mark all these years because you were afraid. What’s changed?”

I wanted to know the answer to that question myself. What had suddenly changed their mind?

“As Micha just said. This wolf isn’t any old run of the mill wolf. He’s the leader, their Alpha. He’s strong, able to protect you.”

“No. No, I won’t be shared. I won’t be passed between two males like a favorite treat.” Bliss stood up and walked out of the room.

“You’ve lost your damn mind,” I said to my Aunt Bethell. “Did you really think she would go for that?”

“You are her mate and her King. If you decree it, then she must obey,” she said sternly.

I laughed. I couldn’t help myself. “Really? You think so, huh? You think it’s that simple? Do you think her personality suddenly changed since she’s been in my home? That woman doesn’t do anything if it doesn’t suit her to do so.” I shook my head as I walked to the bar. I needed a drink. Where the hell was that damn wolf? He was supposed to be here for this.
