Epilogue

I woke beside Lex with the warm sun bathing my face and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. We had camped out last night, sleeping in an elaborate, open air tent on the beach set up by the castles’ servants. With the flowers reminiscent of our wedding scenting the salty air, and the white drapes fluttering, framing my view of the water, the whole setting couldn’t have been more picturesque.

We’d been back on the island a month now, having not only the castle, but the entire island to ourselves except for the help. All of the others were busy training the true werewolves. Our plan to help them had not gone smoothly, according to weekly reports. They had been a hard bunch to work with even after being convinced to be helped. But, at least, our enemies were down to none now.

A team of Royals were being setup to continue to help true werewolves worldwide after this first test batch. Catherine and Edward had actually made us feel like we had a job to do here on the island, keeping the house running that already ran like a well-oiled machine. I knew it was an excuse to give us some time alone like a normal couple, and I’d ever be grateful for it. In a few short weeks, Catherine and Edward would be home, and they were bringing Chloe with them for a visit.

It had taken some long, exhausting hours, and lots of magic, to convince my friend that neither of us were crazy, but eventually, she had come around, and once she had, she’d forgiven me for the secrets that I’d kept. In fact, for the first time, Chloe had said that she was honestly excited to read a paranormal story, wanting all the details that would emerge when I wrote mine.

I had been writing too. The entire plot lived out already, the thing more than wrote itself. There were times that the memories, some horrible, were too fresh and hard to write, but I was managing, and already had several chapters done. That my life had played out like fiction now amused me. I saw the blessing, daily, which had come from the trials, and I knew that I would sacrifice it all again to be where I was now. I, of course, wished so many lives had not been lost, but I had also begun to see that it wasn’t my fault. Daniel would have to shoulder the blame for all of it.

Lex stirred beside me, pulling my body into his tighter as he woke up.

“This is like a dream, to be here, naked with you, alone on this beach. How many people get moments like this?” he asked, then began nibbling on my ear.

“Only ones in books as far as I know,” I said, giggling when his butterfly kisses tickled. “Only those in books and us, my love.”
