About the Author

Born and raised in New York City, Dr. Chaim Potok was graduated from Yeshiva University in 1950 with a B.A.
summa cum laude
in English literature. He then received a rabbinic ordination in 1954 from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Dr. Potok was a member of the faculty of the University of Judaism in los Angeles and spent a year in Israel completing his doctoral dissertation on philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania in 1965. He has written numerous articles, reviews, and stories, and in May 1966 he became editor of the Jewish Publication Society of America.
