apocalypse

New Testament
. The book is a series of visions, prefaced (chs. 1–3) by letters to seven churches in Asia Minor. The hostile attitude to Rome suggests a date during Nero's persecution,
c.
64, or later under Domitian (81–96). In Christian history the book has become important in times of persecution and in the context of
millenarian
movements.
