(Skt., ‘attaining equanimity’). In Jainism, a 48-minute period of
yogic
meditation and restraint practised by both ascetics and the Jain laity, and (according to Jain texts), the highest form of spiritual discipline. It can be observed at any time, but is often practised at dawn or sunset (before or after the day's activities) when the Jain can sit unmoved and undisturbed, forgiving and seeking forgiveness.
