which was influenced by
neo-Confucianism
. It was founded by Yamazaki Ansai (1619–82), a Buddhist priest turned Confucian scholar who attempted a grand synthesis of neo-Confucian metaphysical and ethical concepts with the traditions of the various Shinto schools of the early Tokugawa period.

(Jap., ‘moon-reflected image’). A common summary in Japanese Buddhism of the transitory and non-substantial nature of all appearance.
