A Japanese corpus of regulations for governmental administration and ceremonies in fifty books. The compilation of these procedures was initiated in 905 CE.

Engishiki
can be divided into two parts in accordance with the two major divisions of the government: the
Jingi-kan
concerned with
kami
(deities) affairs or Shinto religion for the well-being and prosperity of the national community, and the
Daj
-kan
dealing with all the ‘secular’ business of the government. All matters handled by the
Jingi-kan
are found in the first ten books of the
Engishiki
