Growling, Leevi nearly toppled on her as he leaned down to steal a sloppy, wet kiss from her lips, the tip of his tongue brushing the seam of her lips just in passing. “Good. Cause we’re not done.”
Summer’s eyes shot open in shock, her not having even realized when she had closed them. “Say what?”
Rik started to laugh, his whole body shimmying with it. “When we regroup after a nice long catnap, he means to say.”
Nodding in agreement, Leevi came down to lie on Summer’s other side. “Yup. That is what I mean to say.” With a surprisingly tender, sensual move, Leevi nuzzled Summer’s throat and neck, licking a little, before settling to snuggle at her side, just as Rik mirrored his moves from her other flank. The two men covered her, and Summer was overjoyed. “One thing I gotta say though. Now I know why Rik called you catnip.”
At that Summer could do naught but laugh like a hyena.
Epilogue
“Ouch.”
Summer’s eyelids fluttered as she tried to regain enough strength to wake up properly, but her body ached all over. Her pussy felt ravaged and yet hungry for more, her ass felt soft and sore and strangely pulsating still, and her muscles protested the idea of ever getting out of bed. Still, she slowly and cautiously wiggled her way from underneath two gorgeous men, desperate to pee.
Finally she was free and disentangled from the two bodies as hot as furnaces and as alluring as a siren’s call. Getting up on shaky legs, Summer turned to watch as Leevi and Rik made up for the missing body in between them by closing the gap in their sleep and snuggling closer until they embraced each other without consciously being aware of it. Oh, they looked so cute together, she thought, smiling.
A surge of possessiveness washed over her.
They’re all mine
.
Summer made her way to the bathroom and closed the door, relieving herself, washing her face by the sink, and then rinsing her body underneath the shower spray. There were smears of bodily fluids all over her, both her juices and their semen as they had marked her with their come. She couldn’t help the grin that threatened to split her face at the memory of Rik and Leevi loving her.
When she returned to the bedroom, neither men had moved, so she quietly got dressed in a tight sweater and jeans and went in search of a cup of tea.
Beams of early morning sunlight came through the windows, lighting her way. Dust particles danced in her field of vision, and the house was calm, quiet, and serene, relaxing her. She found the kitchen and put the kettle on to boil. She snagged an apple from a wicker basket on the table and took a bite. The tart juices of the fresh apple awoke her taste-buds, but she needed tea to wake up properly.
Leisurely eating the apple, she wandered to the front door, opened it, and stepped out into the porch. The spring air was cool and dry, but there were hints of summer in the air, from the way the new grass smelled to the way dirt clouds scented the wind. There were only tiny green buds of leaves in the birches still bare from the winter, Summer could see, but soon the warmest season would wake nature up, and all would be green, lush, and perfect.
Sitting on the porch swing, Summer felt at ease for the first time in a long time. Her search was at an end. She had journeyed far and wide, from one country to another. She had met a man and had sex. She had gotten abducted and nearly killed. She had met a second man and had fallen in love. She had met a whole bunch of wolves like her, and though she was at odds with some of the aspects of their society, culture, and law, they were her kin. Their blood ran inside her veins too.
For better or worse, yet to be determined, she was home.
“Summer?”
The old woman, short and round, from the tribunal yesterday emerged from the thicket by the porch, suggesting there was a path there concealed by bushes. Summer got up, startled, and recognized her right away.
Annukka Salonen. My grandmother
. Nervously she swallowed, and gave an imperceptible nod.
Dressed in simple farmer’s trousers and a sweater, her long gray hair lifted casually on her head in a loose bun, Annukka stepped closer, smiling. “Glad you are still here.”
As Annukka came to the porch, Summer shrugged, though felt anything but casual. “Yeah, well, it’s not like I have a lot of places to go.”
With a wave of her hand, Annukka suggested they sit in the swing again, and they both did, resting on the green padding side by side. “You no return to
England
?” Annukka asked, curious.
Summer studied her. She could see her mother Emma in those features staring back at her, from the mischievous sparkle in her blue eyes to her jovial, laidback expression, and long-forgotten memories of her mother watching her, talking to her, smiling at her resurfaced. “No. I mean, I don’t know. I leased my apartment, and I’m on unpaid leave from my job. I suppose I could go back, but...” Her eyes peered over her shoulder to the house, though nothing stirred inside.
“Leevi and Rik?” Annukka asked. To Summer it didn’t feel like a question, but more of a statement of fact. And she sounded happy saying it, so she must have been pleased with the outcome, that the three of them had found their soul mates and accepted the mating bond.
“Yes.” Summer nodded. “They are my mates. And they belong here, in
Finland
. There are no wolves, shifters or otherwise, in
England
.” She let out a sigh and realized she didn’t really miss it all that much. Not as much as she had expected. “I have a university education, a good resume, and a pretty strong will, if I say so myself. English pigheadedness, I guess.” She chuckled, and Annukka joined her. “So I imagine I’ll find something.”
“Work?” Annukka clarified, but did not wait for Summer to speak. “Where you want live?” An ample dose of longing sprinkled on her speech, and Summer knew they had missed each other in equal measure, even though she hadn’t even known about her grandmother until recently.
“I know we have to leave pack and clan lands—” she started to say.
“You safe in my house for now,” Annukka said, nodding with determination, giving Summer an idea of how strong she was as a wolf and as a woman, sitting on the Clan Council as well. “You, and Rik, and Leevi, you stay at my house. We talk. You decide what to do. All well.”
With a trembling hand, Annukka gave her a tattered old photograph from her pocket, lovingly smoothing out the wrinkles with her other hand. Summer took the photo, and her heart ached with both sorrow and joy. The sadness of loss and the happiness of having found her origin and where she belonged mixed within her.
In the picture Summer saw her mother, Emma, with the purple ribbon in her hair, and she was holding a baby.
Oh God, my hair was so red back when I was a baby
, Summer thought, smiling. This must have been the picture Annukka had spoken of in her letter, the one she treasured.
A huge weight lifted off Summer’s chest and shoulders, and she exhaled, her eyes getting misty with unshed tears. Suddenly Annukka’s hand was right there to offer comfort, her dry, wrinkled, slender fingers intertwining with Summer’s and holding on tenderly, squeezing just a little. Now Summer really did have to bite her lower lip to stop herself from crying.
All that she had been looking for she had found.
Faintly she heard Leevi and Rik stirring inside the house, grumbling for coffee on their way down the stairs one after the other, and already arguing about packing, or groceries, or cars, or something. Summer smiled. Bickering or not, they belonged to her.
And there were stories in her future, a learning curve about family and kindred.
Turning to face Annukka again, Summer spoke quietly, with a reverence she felt down to her very core, “Please, tell me about my mother.”
