“Do you miss it, Creary?” Matthew asks, looking at the sea.

I look at the sea, too, and feel the savage pull of its depths in my veins. “Of course. It's part of me.”

He kisses the top of my head and squeezes me close. “I'm glad you stayed.”

“Me too,” I whisper, though only time will tell.
