Matthew 8:18-34

18
Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.

19
And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

20
 And Jesus saith unto him,
The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air
have
nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay
his
head.

21
And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

22
 But Jesus said unto him,
Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

23
And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
24
And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25
 And his disciples came to
him,
and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

26
 And he saith unto them,
Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?
Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27
But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

28
And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
29
And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
30
And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
31
So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.

32
 And he said unto them,
Go.
And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
33
And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.
34
And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought
him
that he would depart out of their coasts.

Psalm 10:1-15

1
Why standest thou afar off, O L
ORD
?
why
hidest thou
thyself
in times of trouble?

2
 The wicked in
his
pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

3
For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous,
whom
the L
ORD
abhorreth.

4
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek
after God:
God
is
not in all his thoughts.

5
His ways are always grievous; thy judgments
are
far above out of his sight:
as for
all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

6
He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for
I shall
never
be
in adversity.

7
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue
is
mischief and vanity.

8
He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.

9
He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.

10
 He croucheth,
and
humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

11
He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see
it.

12
 Arise, O L
ORD
; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.

13
Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require
it.

14
 Thou hast seen
it;
for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite
it
with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.

15
Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil
man:
seek out his wickedness
till
thou find none.

Proverbs 3:7-8

7
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the L
ORD
, and depart from evil.

8
It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Genesis 26:17–27:46

17
And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
18
And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

19
And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
20
And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water
is
ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
21
And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.
22
And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the L
ORD
hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.

23
And he went up from thence to Beer-sheba.
24
 And the L
ORD
appeared unto him the same night, and said, I
am
the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I
am
with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.
25
And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the L
ORD
, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac's servants digged a well.

26
Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.
27
And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?

28
And they said, We saw certainly that the L
ORD
was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us,
even
betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;
29
that thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou
art
now the blessed of the L
ORD
.

30
And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.
31
And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

32
And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.
33
And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city
is
Beer-sheba unto this day.

34
And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:
35
which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.

27:
1
And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son.

And he said unto him, Behold,
here am
I.

2
And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
3
now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me
some
venison;
4
and make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring
it
to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.

5
And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt
for
venison,
and
to bring
it.
6
And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,
7
Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the L
ORD
before my death.
8
Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
9
Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:
10
 and thou shalt bring
it
to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.

11
And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother
is
a hairy man, and I
am
a smooth man:
12
my father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.

13
And his mother said unto him, Upon me
be
thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me
them.
14
And he went, and fetched, and brought
them
to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.
15
And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which
were
with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
16
and she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
17
and she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

18
And he came unto his father, and said, My father.

And he said, Here
am
I; who
art
thou, my son?

19
And Jacob said unto his father, I
am
Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.

20
And Isaac said unto his son, How
is it
that thou hast found
it
so quickly, my son?

And he said, Because the L
ORD
thy God brought
it
to me.

21
And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou
be
my very son Esau or not.
22
And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice
is
Jacob's voice, but the hands
are
the hands of Esau.
23
And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.

24
 And he said,
Art
thou my very son Esau?

And he said, I
am.

25
 And he said, Bring
it
near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought
it
near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.
26
And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.
27
And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son
is
as the smell of a field which the L
ORD
hath blessed:
28
therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
29
let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed
be
every one that curseth thee, and blessed
be
he that blesseth thee.

30
And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
31
And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.

32
And Isaac his father said unto him, Who
art
thou?

And he said, I
am
thy son, thy firstborn Esau.

33
And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where
is
he that hath taken venison, and brought
it
me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea,
and
he shall be blessed.

34
And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me,
even
me also, O my father.

35
And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.

36
And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

37
And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

38
And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me,
even
me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

39
 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;
40
and by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

41
And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

42
And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself,
purposing
to kill thee.
43
 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;
44
 and tarry with him a few days, until thy brother's fury turn away;
45
until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget
that
which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?

46
And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these
which are
of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?
