John 15:1-27

1

I [Jesus] am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every
branch
that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3

Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5

I am the vine, ye
are
the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast
them
into the fire, and they are burned.
7

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and
that
your joy might be full.
12

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14

Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15

Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and
that
your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
17

These things I command you, that ye love one another.

18

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before
it hated
you.
19

If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20

Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21

But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
22

If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
23

He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24

If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25

But
this cometh to pass,
that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

26

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father,
even
the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
27

and ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

Psalm 119:49-64

49
Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.

50
 This
is
my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.

51
The proud have had me greatly in derision:
yet
have I not declined from thy law.

52
I remembered thy judgments of old, O L
ORD
; and have comforted myself.

53
Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law.

54
Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.

55
 I have remembered thy name, O L
ORD
, in the night, and have kept thy law.

56
This I had, because I kept thy precepts.

57

Thou art
my portion, O L
ORD
: I have said that I would keep thy words.

58
 I intreated thy favour with
my
whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.

59
I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.

60
I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.

61
The bands of the wicked have robbed me:
but
I have not forgotten thy law.

62
At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

63
 I
am
a companion of all
them
that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.

64
 The earth, O L
ORD
, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.

Proverbs 16:1-3

1
The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue,
is
from the L
ORD
.

2
All the ways of a man
are
clean in his own eyes; but the L
ORD
weigheth the spirits.

3
Commit thy works unto the L
ORD
, and thy thoughts shall be established.

2 Samuel 12:1-31

1
 And the L
ORD
sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
2
 The rich
man
had exceeding many flocks and herds:
3
 but the poor
man
had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
4
And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

5
And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan,
As
the L
ORD
liveth, the man that hath done this
thing
shall surely die:
6
and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

7
And Nathan said to David, Thou
art
the man. Thus saith the L
ORD
God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
8
and I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if
that had been
too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
9
Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the L
ORD
, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife
to be
thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10
Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
11
 Thus saith the L
ORD
, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give
them
unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
12
 For thou didst
it
secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

13
And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the L
ORD
.

And Nathan said unto David, The L
ORD
also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
14
Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the L
ORD
to blaspheme, the child also
that is
born unto thee shall surely die.

15
And Nathan departed unto his house. And the L
ORD
struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
16
David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.
17
And the elders of his house arose,
and went
to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
18
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

19
But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead?

And they said, He is dead.

20
Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed
himself,
and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the L
ORD
, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
21
Then said his servants unto him, What thing
is
this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child,
while it was
alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.

22
And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell
whether
God will be gracious to me, that the child may live?
23
But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

24
And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the L
ORD
loved him.
25
And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the L
ORD
.

26
And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27
And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
28
Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.
29
And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30
And he took their king's crown from off his head, the weight whereof
was
a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was
set
on David's head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.
31
And he brought forth the people that
were
therein, and put
them
under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.

John 16:1-33

1

These things have I [Jesus] spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
2

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
3

And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4

But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

5

But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6

But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9

of sin, because they believe not on me;
10

of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11

of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear,
that
shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew
it
unto you.
15

All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew
it
unto you.

16

A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

17
 Then said
some
of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
18
They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

19
Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them,
Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
20

Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21

A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
22

And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
23

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give
it
you.
24

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

25

These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
26

At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
27

for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
28

I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

29
His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
30
Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

31
 Jesus answered them,
Do ye now believe?
32

Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
