2 Timothy 2:1-21

1
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

3
Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of
this
life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5
And if a man also strive for masteries,
yet
is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
6
The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
7
Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

8
Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
9
wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer,
even
unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
10
Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11

It is
a faithful saying: For if we be dead with
him,
we shall also live with
him:
12
if we suffer, we shall also reign with
him:
if we deny
him,
he also will deny us:
13
 if we believe not,
yet
he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

14
 Of these things put
them
in remembrance, charging
them
before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit,
but
to the subverting of the hearers.
15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16
 But shun profane
and
vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17
 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18
who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
19
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

20
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use,
and
prepared unto every good work.

Psalms 92:1–93:5

A Psalm
or
Song for the sabbath day.

1

It is a
good
thing
to give thanks unto the L
ORD
, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:

2
To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,

3
Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

4
 For thou, L
ORD
, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

5
 O L
ORD
, how great are thy works!
and
thy thoughts are very deep.

6
A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.

7
 When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish;
it is
that they shall be destroyed for ever:

8
 But thou, L
ORD
,
art most
high for evermore.

9
For, lo, thine enemies, O L
ORD
, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

10
But my horn shalt thou exalt like
the horn of
an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

11
 Mine eye also shall see
my desire
on mine enemies,
and
mine ears shall hear
my desire
of the wicked that rise up against me.

12
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

13
Those that be planted in the house of the L
ORD
shall flourish in the courts of our God.

14
 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

15
 To shew that the L
ORD
is
upright:
he is
my rock, and
there is
no unrighteousness in him.

93:
1
 The L
ORD
reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the L
ORD
is clothed with strength,
wherewith
he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

2
 Thy throne
is
established of old: thou
art
from everlasting.

3
The floods have lifted up, O L
ORD
, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.

4
 The L
ORD
on high
is
mightier than the noise of many waters,
yea, than
the mighty waves of the sea.

5
Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O L
ORD
, for ever.

Proverbs 26:3-5

3
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.

4
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

5
Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Jeremiah 44:24–47:7

24
Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the L
ORD
, all Judah that
are
in the land of Egypt:
25
 thus saith the L
ORD
of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.
26
Therefore hear ye the word of the L
ORD
, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the L
ORD
, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord G
OD
liveth.
27
Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that
are
in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.
28
Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.
29
 And this
shall be
a sign unto you, saith the L
ORD
, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:
30
 Thus saith the L
ORD
; Behold, I will give Pharaoh-hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.

45:
1
The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,
2
 Thus saith the L
ORD
, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch;
3
Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the L
ORD
hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.
4
Thus shalt thou say unto him, The L
ORD
saith thus; Behold,
that
which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.
5
And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek
them
not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the L
ORD
: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.

46:
1
 The word of the L
ORD
which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles.

2
against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh-necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

3
Order ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.

4
Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with
your
helmets; furbish the spears,
and
put on the brigandines.

5
Wherefore have I seen them dismayed
and
turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back:
for
fear
was
round about, saith the L
ORD
.

6
Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.

7
 Who
is
this
that
cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?

8
Egypt riseth up like a flood, and
his
waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up,
and
will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.

9
Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle
and
bend the bow.

10
 For this
is
the day of the Lord G
OD
of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord G
OD
of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

11
 Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines;
for
thou shalt not be cured.

12
The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty,
and
they are fallen both together.

13
 The word that the L
ORD
spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come
and
smite the land of Egypt.

14
Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee.

15
 Why are thy valiant
men
swept away? they stood not, because the L
ORD
did drive them.

16
He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.

17
They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt
is but
a noise; he hath passed the time appointed.

18

As
I live, saith the King, whose name
is
the L
ORD
of hosts, Surely as Tabor
is
among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea,
so
shall he come.

19
O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

20
 Egypt
is like
a very fair heifer,
but
destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north.

21
 Also her hired men
are
in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back,
and
are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them,
and
the time of their visitation.

22
The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.

23
They shall cut down her forest, saith the L
ORD
, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and
are
innumerable.

24
The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.

25
 The L
ORD
of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and
all
them that trust in him:
26
and I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the L
ORD
.

27
But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make
him
afraid.

28
Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the L
ORD
: for I
am
with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.

47:
1
 The word of the L
ORD
that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.

2
 Thus saith the L
ORD
; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

3
At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong
horses,
at the rushing of his chariots,
and at
the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to
their
children for feebleness of hands;

4
Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines,
and
to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the L
ORD
will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

5
Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off
with
the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?

6
O thou sword of the L
ORD
, how long
will it be
ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.

7
How can it be quiet, seeing the L
ORD
hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.
