, was born in Hamburg, Germany, where she still lives today. Before becoming an author, Kirsten worked as a grade-school teacher. She began writing after the adoption of her first child, and since then she has published more than sixty books for young readers. She is the recipient of the prestigious German Youth Literature Award, and many of her books have become international bestsellers.
