“You’ll be here when I’m done?” he asked her, and she looked at him oddly.

“Uh, yeah, I work here remember?” she stated and he chuckled.

“I know that. I meant that maybe we could have a drink together.” She immediately knew what Billy was after. He actually thought he was a hotshot with the women, and granted, he was cute and did leave here every night with some woman, but not her. He reached for her cheek, and she panicked. So much for her newfound confidence. She forgot about the small step behind her and began to fall backward when big, strong arms wrapped around her waist and caught her.

She gasped as she saw Billy’s eyes widen, but he had never moved to catch her. He would have let her fall.

“Damn, baby doll, are you okay?”

She tried to unwrap the strong arms that were around her when she heard Chad’s voice.

“Thank God you caught her,” another voice chimed in as Michael appeared in front of her. Chad slowly released her and turned her toward him. His blue eyes sparkled as he stared down at her.

She nibbled her bottom lip then smoothed her clammy hands down her skirt.

“Thank you,” she whispered. She felt Michael’s hand touch her hip, and she automatically looked up toward him.

“You okay, honey? That asshole wasn’t bothering you, was he?”

God, he sounded so fierce. She shook immediately then took a deep breath. He was just being a man. Men were cocky, confident, and always trying to show each other who was boss. She attempted to laugh it off then took a step away from Michael and Chad. His hand fell from her waist and Michael quickly spoke.

“You look beautiful as always.”

“Thank you. I was just trying to help them set up,” she began to say when they heard Billy talking into the mic. Then the band began to play. They were standing in the center of the tables and people were looking annoyed.

“They’re getting started.” She started walking away. She was still shaking, and the scent of Michael and Chad’s cologne surrounded her. It was manly and really nice. As she kept inhaling, sensing that the scent wasn’t going away the further she walked, she realized that both Michael and Chad were on her heels. She was by the bar now when she turned to find both men standing in front of her. Damn were they tall, and tonight they looked as good as usual. They wore dark Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots. Chad wore a dark blue button-down shirt and Michael wore a black one. Somehow she found herself leaning against the bar with Chad on one side of her and Michael standing directly in front of her.

He looked her over with hungry eyes, and damn it, she felt every motion as if his hands touched her.

“I wanted to talk to you,” Michael stated, stepping closer. Chad cleared his throat, and momentarily Michael looked at him and then back at Alexa. “
We
wanted to talk with you.”

“About what?” she asked, her voice nearly cracking before the last syllable left her lips.

“A few things. First of all, you left your brand-new camera in my truck earlier.”

“I know. I’m sorry about that. If you have it now, I can take it from you and put it with my things in the back room.”

He shook his head.

“You don’t have it with you?”

“No, it’s back at our place.”

She felt her cheeks warm and she knew she was blushing as she lowered her eyes. Holy shit, these men were awfully forward. Did they actually think that she would just accept their invitation to go to their home and have sex with them? That was what he was hinting at, wasn’t it? Fuck if she knew shit about men or their slick maneuvers.

“I need to go.” As if realizing what she was thinking, he stopped her, taking her hand and holding it gently.

“Aw hell, baby doll, that’s not what I meant. I didn’t mean anything by saying the camera was at our place.”

“Didn’t you? Did you think that I would just fall all head over heels for your good looks and charms like some pushover broad?” she snapped at him then covered her mouth with her hand. She shocked herself, never mind Michael and Chad, who now looked taken aback. Michael looked at Chad, and Chad nodded toward her.

“I’m sorry. Shit, I’m fucking this all up. You know you make me all tongue-tied.”

She uncovered her mouth to give him the evil eye. Now this was her fault? “Excuse me? I’m just minding my own business. You’re making assumptions. I don’t need this right now. I’m trying to work.” She was about to walk away when Chad moved in front of her now, too. He placed his hand on her left hip, and she stepped back against the bar. The hard wood was a significant contrast to his warm touch. She felt the heat from his large hand and fingers penetrate through the material.

“Please don’t walk away. I’m just going to be damn honest with you, Alexa, and hope that you believe me. My brother and I have been watching you for quite some time.” She raised her eyebrow at him and he quickly continued. Maybe she was actually making them both nervous. Two strong macho men like this. It surprised her and made her feel a bit more capable of handling them at the moment.

“Not in a creepy kind of way. I swear. Listen, we want to get to know you. The right way. Perhaps we could take you to lunch tomorrow and then go back to our house for your camera and stuff?” She thought about that a moment. They were asking her out together. Two men wanted to go out with her at once. They also wanted to take her to their place. That meant more than she was ready for.

“I don’t know.”

“How about just out to lunch and we’ll bring the camera with us? It’s supposed to be a gorgeous day tomorrow. We could eat at the Delite Café and Diner then head over toward the park?” Michael added.

She lowered her eyes until gentle fingertips touched her chin and tilted her face up toward Chad. Chad stared down into her eyes.

“No funny stuff, baby doll. Just a first date, really casual. We’ll pick you up at your place around noontime? How does that sound?”

She licked her lips and both men seemed to follow her movement. She felt a tingling sensation inside and knew damn well that she never felt anything like this before. She was so attracted to both men it was crazy.

“I don’t know. I don’t really date,” she whispered. The band was loud and they couldn’t hear her as Chad and Michael stepped closer. She sensed their masculinity, and being surrounded by them right now made her nervous but also aroused. She imagined them hugging her together with her smushed in between. It would probably feel amazing. She was such an idiot. She couldn’t be stupid about this. They may not be who they seemed at all.

“Please trust us. One date and if it’s awful then we never have to do it again.” Michael placed his hand on her waist and gently brushed his thumb back and forth over her skin where the waist of her skirt met the camisole that was lifted a little higher. Chad stroked her chin with gentle fingertips and tilted her face up toward him. She looked at him and locked gazes with his blue eyes.

“We’ll pick you up at twelve. Dress comfortably and bring a sweater. It may get windy later in the day.”

He released her chin then stepped back. Chad and Michael smiled at her then walked away.

As she tried to control her breathing, she realized that she had her first date ever tomorrow and with two men. Holy shit she needed to talk to Sally. She frantically looked around until she locked gazes with her sister. Sally opened her arms palms up as if saying, “So, do you have a date or what?” When Alexa nodded her head, Sally gave a fist pump as she yelled “Yes!” then hurried over toward Alexa.

I hope I didn’t just make a huge mistake.

Chapter 5

By eleven thirty, Alexa was a nervous wreck. Her hands were shaking and she was trying to tell Sally, Paula, and Ava to quit messing with her hair.

“Okay, enough already. You’re all making me so damn nervous.” She grabbed the red sweater and started to place it on over the black top Sally had picked out for her. The top was tight and low cut like most of what Sally had chosen for Alexa at Stella’s Boutique.

“Why are you putting the sweater on now?” Sally asked.

“Yeah, honey, you’ve got great breasts, you ought to show them off,” Elise added. Great, now all she needed was for Susanna and Ava to chime in with suggestions. She fixed the sweater so that it covered her up. Immediately she felt warm, but she would suffer feeling overheated instead of feeling exposed. She fixed her hair, straightened out her black skinny jeans that showed off her shapely figure, and pulled the red sweater down lower so that it covered her ass.

“For crying out loud, Alexa, show what the good Lord above gave ya.” This time it was Paula who came next to her and fixed the sweater so that it revealed the tight-fitting jeans on her ass.

“Urrr! I am so damn nervous. I should cancel. I really don’t think this is a good idea. I don’t know what to even do on a date.” She rambled on as she plopped down onto one of the stools in the kitchen by the island and counter.

“Lots of things can happen,” Juliet stated with a smile.

“Like what?” Panic overwhelmed Alexa.

“Holding hands, smiles across the table, muscular thighs brushing up against yours,” Elise whispered.

“The smell of their cologne, the way their shirts stretch across big, hard muscles making your mouth water, and other body parts watering, too,” Paula teased.

Ava fanned herself. “Hot damn, I need to go out on a date.”

They all chuckled, but Alexa sat there feeling sick to her stomach.

The sound of the doorbell ringing brought everyone to attention. The women fussed over her one more time as Susanna walked toward the door as if she were the parent checking out her daughter’s date. This was so nontraditional in every aspect. From living in a house with other women, having her cousin as her protector and guardian answering the door for her date, to her date arriving and being two men instead of one.
What the hell am I thinking?

She was about to bolt out of the kitchen and through the back door when both Sally and Ava grabbed her arms.

“You will be fine. Just be yourself, Alexa, and they’ll love it. If they don’t, then forget about them and look at this as practice.” She nodded her head toward Ava.

“I love you and I’m a phone call away. We all are,” Sally whispered, and she heard both Michael and Chad laughing along with Susanna. She could do this. After one last look around the room, she took a deep breath and headed toward the front entranceway.

“You take good care of my cousin now, ya hear,” Susanna warned Michael and Chad just as Alexa entered the room. Michael felt his belly clench and his eyes nearly pop out of his head. Alexa looked so beautiful and also scared. He had an overwhelming urge to take her into his arms and hug her to him. She was petite and sexy, and something in his gut told him this might be an entirely new experience for all of them.

“Hi, baby doll. You look beautiful,” Chad stated and she smiled.

“She sure does. Are you ready to go?” Michael asked. She straightened her shoulders, took a deep breath, and gave a small smile.

“Sure am.”

She glanced at Susanna. Then Chad opened the front door and let her exit first. Michael followed.

He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. The way her body looked in the snug-fitting jeans, the shape of her ass and the way the red sweater hugged her breasts. It was kind of warm out for the sweater, but she would need it later. There was a storm moving in for later today.

Chad opened the door to Michael’s pickup truck. He held his hand out for her to take while she climbed up the side rail to get into the truck. Chad followed, getting in beside her as Michael walked around the truck and got into the passenger side. He was grateful for the bench seats and the fact that Alexa was pressed between the two of them.

“Here we go,” Michael stated as he smiled at her. She gripped her black purse and swallowed hard.

Alexa was trying to embrace this new experience and just breathe. Not relax or just go with the flow because that would be asking too much of herself at a time like this. She was wedged between two large, sexy, great-smelling men. Their rock-solid thighs were touching her thighs, and masculinity and testosterone filled the cab of the truck.

“Your cousin Susanna is tough,” Chad stated, and Alexa glanced up at him. He was so beautiful. Like a sculptured piece of art or model for the cover of a men’s magazine, he was breathtaking. He looked at her oddly, and she gave herself a little kick for staring at him like that. He smiled and she quickly turned away.

“I was waiting for Susanna to bring us into the kitchen where she just happened to be cleaning her guns,” Michael teased and she felt a bit embarrassed.

“I’m sorry if she made you feel uncomfortable.”

“Hell no, baby doll. We haven’t gone on a real date ever before. It was kind of cool,” Chad confessed.

“What? No way. You’re just saying that.”

“No he’s not. We’ve never really gone on a date before.”

“Are you serious? I mean what about all those women I’ve seen hanging on the two of you at Dixie Chix?” she asked, feeling like they were bullshitting her. She wanted to be tough just like Susanna and Sally.
