Gustavo is a Brazilian who was also hired as a caretaker of Isle Esme. He is embarrassed by Kaure’s superstitions and wants her to be more modern.
She believes vampires are real, and that she is working for some of them.

Kaure, a Ticuna native, is a resident of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and one of the caretakers of Isle Esme. She was raised to believe in the traditions of her people—traditions that include vampires and the reality of vampire-human procreation.
