He raised his head, pulling away a little with a question in his eyes. “She’s my half sister, and blood means a lot to us. I won’t desert her, no matter what she’s done. The curse was a hard punishment even for us. Do you agree to this? A healer? I ask because she hurt you, as much as me. She violated you in more ways than one, and that can’t be easy to forgive.”

For a not dead person, Aroha looked very dead indeed. Her chest wasn’t moving. But then, she wasn’t human, and Danii guessed, the rosy glow was doing something to keep her alive. The woman was a homicidal bitch.

“Hurt you? She meant for me to shoot you in the head!” And in the cruelest possible way too. Yet, was she evil, or just so far gone in her madness she’d lost sight of what was right? Danii sucked in the edge of her upper lip and nibbled on it. In this, Heketoro was offering her the role of executioner. Wrong to even imagine she could be Aroha’s executioner. If she couldn’t stick to what she knew was right, what sort of law officer, or person, was she?
Hmph. Definitely no better than Aroha, if I condemn her.

She nodded. “Yes, do that. Take her to a healer. I’m glad and thankful you asked me. But…” She frowned. “I’m not likely to be punished for shooting her, am I? Or is she going to be before one of your courts for attacking you?” Killer licked and nudged her leg. She bent to pat him.

“No. What has happened here is very likely to be ignored by our courts. Until I return, I’m not recognized as a fae lord.”

He was a fae lord? Oh, hell, that sounded rather grander than she expected.

“And, Danii, ask any questions you like of me. I’ll attempt to answer them properly. Never feel as if you can’t, unless, of course I’ve commanded you to stay silent.” He ran his hand down past the small of her back, and over her bottom, to then nestle his fingers one by one into the wetness of her slit. “Which is likely to only be when we’re in my bedchamber…or maybe when I have your luscious body up against a wall…or at one of the more interesting gatherings. Times like those.”

She gaped at him. He’d said all that without any change in voice, in a most matter-of-fact way. Was this some sort of test? To see if she’d protest? He slipped his other hand under her breast, lifting it, then lowered his head, and for a delicious moment sucked at one nipple while his thumb brushed across and around the other.

She inhaled sharply and hung on to his arms for dear life, groaning as her nipples throbbed and tightened. She wouldn’t challenge him. Neither her body nor her mind would let her. Though if he wasn’t careful, she’d give him bruises as deep as those developing on her wrists.

“We have to go,” he murmured, looking pleased at what he saw in her face.

“Uh, one other vital question. Can Killer come? You don’t eat dogs…or anything?”

He shook his head, a small smile gracing his lips. “Yes, he can come. We don’t eat dogs. Besides, I’d not dream of saying no. You might want to stay here, and I won’t allow that.”

“Oh. Thank heavens.” She paused apprehensively, wishing she had more questions to ask. It was now? They were really leaving? She was dithering, but who wouldn’t? A thousand airport departures would never ever equal this.

He gripped her arms. “Danii. I promise this on my very soul, for you are mine alone, nothing will stop me from protecting you from harm. Is this enough for you?”

On his soul? She was his, alone? His words made her knees weaken again, which was saying something on this night when she almost needed a wheelchair. “Oh, yes. You know that is more than enough. I’m just…nervous. Wait!” She wriggled loose. “Before we go.” She jogged over to scrabble among the leaves until she found the pistol, then ran back to Heketoro.

He raised his hand, drew back his arm, and threw the egg on a long whistling path, and as he did so he cried out a great word that seemed to shatter the air. The roar intensified, and Danii held her hands over her ears.

A shimmering, crackling blue disc, four yards wide, spread across the clearing in front of them, the reflection of light transforming the leaf-strewn ground around it into a blue landscape.

Heketoro picked up Aroha, easily slinging her body across his shoulder and holding her there with an arm across her back. Blood, changed to blue and purple by the light from the portal, trickled from her mouth and dripped from her nose. With his other hand, he took Danii’s, gripping it so tightly her knuckles cracked. She winced.

“Don’t let go of me.” He strode forward.

“Wait. Uh, clothes?”
Toothbrush
? Anything to delay this moment. Though walking naked into a new world seemed inadvisable in any case.

“They won’t go through.” He glanced at the gun. “And neither will that.”

No clothes? Hell
. She frowned. “Is that for sure? Have you tested it?”

He shrugged. “No. But it is well-known lore.”

“Then I’m at least going to try taking this.” She held up the pistol. “Fifteen rounds left in here. If you have powerful enemies, then I plan to help you keep them at bay.”

He narrowed his eyes, looking from her to the GLOCK, and back to her, while lines slowly crinkled about his eyes. He chuckled. “I think you are going to be a big surprise for my enemies, whether that weapon goes through or not. Now, we have to go. Ready?”

Danii sucked in her bottom lip. There were no more excuses she could think of, and any moment Heketoro would just tow her through that thing anyway, if she knew anything about him. Still held by Heketoro, she lowered herself to one knee and gathered a handful of dirt and leaves, watched as it sifted through her fingers and fell away. Was this the last time she would do this? She wiped her hand clean, then climbed to her feet and squared her shoulders.

“I’m ready.” She wriggled her other fingers in Heketoro’s crushing grip, hoping to get some blood back into them. The man didn’t intend to lose her, it seemed. But then she certainly didn’t want to lose him either. She smiled nervously, and he answered her with an intense gaze that settled most of the butterflies in her stomach.

Killer pranced beside her, madly wagging his backside, as if he expected a treat for barking at Aroha. She pointed the gun at the blue disc. “Come on, boy. Just like at obedience. Jump!”

Since he’d never obeyed her at classes when she told him to jump through the hoop, she didn’t hold out much hope.

Of course, no sensible dog would ever jump into a crackling blue disc, but cocker spaniels weren’t known to be sensible. Eyes bright, tongue lolling, Killer leaped first and vanished into the blueness.

“Wow. He did it.” Danii gulped, feeling the inexorable pull on her arm even though Heketoro had also vanished upon stepping into the disc. And now her arm was gone at the elbow with nothing beyond it except the crackling blue. “Wait for me,” she squeaked, before she walked into oblivion.

Though I’d much rather stay invisible and spin you all tales with my words, here’s a little snippet of my world.

I have a lovely family here in Australia, with the prerequisite teenager who dwells in the dark bedroom catacombs, a husband who raises eyebrows when he catches glimpses of what I write, and a furry menagerie of animals barking, meowing, and swimming about the place.

Before writing
Three Days of Dominance
I had never dipped my little toes in the hot and lust-swirled sea of erotica. Now every time I turn around, there’s some new character making me write down their story in the most lurid way. My people are quite adamant about explaining creative new ways of making love, so I doubt I’ll run out of ideas anytime soon, though I may go cross-eyed.

And, dammit, I can’t seem to stop reading other erotica authors either. I have come over to the dark side. Someone please find me a candle...and some rope. ’Cause if Darth Vader’s here, I’m going to see if he’s up for some bondage and wax play.
