But Ice was silent.

“We have to find her; she’s in serious trouble, Kade” he said.

“The splones?” Kade asked as Ice nodded.

“If she boards their ship she may be out of reach for good, unless we can get help from the prophets of Morloren,” Ice said, flicking his cigarette into the yard.

“She has no idea, does she?” Kade asked.

“No. She thinks she’s safe, Kade, but she’s in big trouble” Ice said as the two sped away into the night.

“Are you okay, Ice?” Kade asked as Ice turned away.

“You can’t get attached, Ice, you know that” Kade reminded his twin.

“You think I don’t know that, Kade? Who said I was getting attached?” Ice said.

“Is it because she looks like Klistair?” Kade asked, as Ice flipped him off and sped his motorcycle ahead of Kade’s.

The two alpha twins knew that their were-vamp lineage was not only in jeopardy, but fading as they searched for Shayla.

If the Splones made Shayla their queen the were-vamps would no longer be able to protect the forests surrounding Sleepy Hollow, and it would mean more trouble than they even wanted to think about.

Kade and Ice rode in the chilly night, both consumed by thoughts of Shayla’s lusty body and they longed for her reunion.

But it was Ice that was shaken by Shayla for more than her function in the alien were-vamp war.

He worried that he may have been developing feelings for her; feelings similar to what he’d shared with Klistair – Channadah’s daughter and wizardry protégé.

Klistair died tragically in her youth when they were soon to be wed, and Ice never once went a day without thinking of her with regret for not ending the alien were-vamp war when he’d had the chance.

Klistair handed off her wand to him, but he just wasn’t strong enough to accept it. He wasn’t brave enough to face the Splones.

And now Shayla reminded him of her, and it gave him the bravery that he needed so long ago, but was at least now beginning to gather.

They sped off into the night and flew high above the tree tops of the dark forests as they headed for the Prophets of Morloren to seek the shard of truth…
