“I think they’re OK. The platform was missing and I suspect they Huck Finned it down the intracoastal. Those guys are like cats, they’ll land on their feet.”

“I hope so. I really did like them.” She paused. “I don’t want to ask you what you’re going to do with your life like an ultimatum, but I have to know what you’re thinking.”

Will took a deep breath. “Lance's daughter came by this morning when you were still asleep. The family is committed to finishing the fish house and turning it into a restaurant. They want to sell the old processing building and get out of the fish business.”

“Where does that leave you?”

“They want me to continue the work. She paid me up to date and said I could start back as soon as the police cleared the building as a crime scene.” He looked over the side.

“But?”

“But I need to get my license reinstated and do this legally.” He frowned. 

“You know, we could do this together. I still want to go to school, but I can help do the office work.” She looked away.

“But?”

“But this boat’s gotta go.”

He leaned across the cockpit and kissed her. “It’s got bad karma anyway, Partner.”
