Recalling from our coffee shop chat that he didn’t drive I asked if he had anywhere urgent he needed to be as I would gladly give him a lift. He said no so I invited him to come home with me for a Christmas Eve meal. His smile of acceptance made my heart leap with joy. We shared another kiss, an altogether more romantic one, slow, sensuous and full of promise.
I set the alarm and we stepped outside into the frosty air. It was dark and the stars were already gracing the sky with their presence. I secured the museum door and then we walked in companionable silence down the narrow, cobbled alleyway towards the staff car park, our hands discreetly brushing together.
Some folk say it’s lucky to see a falling star. It certainly proved so in my case, no matter that the star was an earthly creation and not a celestial one. It heralded the beginning of something wonderful, my life with Tay. Of course it wasn’t all plain sailing. All relationships are tested and ours was no exception. Both of us had issues to deal with, but we fell in love and remain in love.
Every Christmas we place a silver star on the top of our Christmas tree, a real tree of course, and smile as we recall our first meeting.
