Her chuckle was icy. "Now, shall we try this
again? You know the question, now give me the answer."

She smiled at the woman. "Go fuck yourself."
Nice
. She had sounded pleasant and nonchalant. As if she
could actually beat her at this game.

The woman smiled back, malevolence in her
eyes. "I was hoping you would say that."

She waved her hand at the other big guy, who
stepped forward with the syringe. Don reached down and yanked her
to her feet, holding his forearm against her throat, and pressing
her arm out against the wall, so the big guy could jab the needle
into her vein.

Their hold was unbreakable, and spots danced
in her vision from lack of oxygen. Her arm burned where the syringe
was depressed, filling her blood with some kind of liquid.

They released her suddenly, and she
collapsed against the corner for support, dragging air into her
lungs, trying to block the pain in her ribs with each inhale.

"Congratulations. You just got a free dose
of our new drug, Cryptonite. It will climb into your brain and
alter your reality. Ah, you can feel it now, can't you? It doesn't
take long."

Jenna could feel it, like tentacles reaching
out in her mind, taking hold to her consciousness and changing
perception. It felt disgusting, like a slimy thing growing and
slithering through her body. She clutched her head, sliding down
the wall in a heap as her legs turned to jelly.

The woman smiled again. "I might let Don and
James here fuck you senseless. You'll be begging for it in a few
minutes. But the best part is that you'll simply blurt out the
answers to whatever I want to know. You won't be able to help
yourself."

Oh God
! Jenna thought. She might not
be able to stay silent. The drug was already having strange effects
on her. Her skin was becoming ultra-sensitized, the air seemed
alive when she breathed, and her vision was like looking through
crystal.

"Your sister especially liked it."

Jenna locked onto that, closing her eyes to
concentrate more on the words, instead of the swirling colors in
front of her eyes, her teeth clenching in agony. "Where is she?"
Was that her voice?

The bitch laughed at her. "Would you like to
see her before you completely sink into madness?"

Jenna had to make herself say yes, even as
the world tilted on its axis.

Seconds later, Don and James dragged Amy
into the room. "Jenna! Oh god!"

Jenna opened her eyes then closed one as the
world seemed a much more beautiful place than it really was at the
moment.

Amy was half-naked, with bruises all over
her from the waist down. Her lip was bleeding, and she had a huge
bruise on one cheekbone.

She tried to crawl towards her, but her body
wouldn't cooperate, and she landed on her belly on the floor,
reaching out towards her sister.

Amy was crying, her legs just as weak, and
when Don and James released her, she fell to the floor. Both of
them inched forward, trying to reach the other, until finally,
their hands met on the cold stone floor.

The touch was strange to Jenna, as if she
was holding her own hand, tingles shooting up her spine. Amy was
sobbing softly, her head down, propped on her arm.

"Such a sweet reunion. You see, Jenna. Don
and James thoroughly enjoyed Amy's tender young body. They are
begging for a chance at yours." The woman laughed again, a high
pitched titter that just really pissed Jenna off.

Amy was outright crying, great sobs shaking
her body, and Jenna felt rage well up inside of her, through the
haze of the drug. She found herself kicking a leg out at the bitch
cop.

The bitch wasn't expecting it, and Jenna's
leg swept hers out from under her. She hit the floor with a thud,
and Jenna jumped on her, fists flying at her face until she heard
the quietly deceptive click of a gun.

Don had Amy dragged up to his chest, gun
held under her neck, eyes narrowed on her as she stilled, fist
lifted in a punch she would be unable to complete.

The woman grabbed a fistful of her hair, and
dragged Jenna off of her, laughing as she cried out against the
pain in her ribs. She tossed Jenna once again to the floor, and
sent the two goons out of the room with Amy.

"Amy!" Jenna cried, earning herself a kick
to the back.

"Where is the disc, you bitch!" the woman
screamed at her, leaning down to yell against her ear.

Jenna cried out. "I don't have it!"

The cop stomped onto her leg, grinding her
boots against it, crushing muscle and bone with an audible
snap.

Jenna screamed, a bloodcurdling cry that
welled up from deep within.

"Fine. Any last words?"

There was only one thing Jenna could think
of to say. "Tell Jacob I love him."

And then she lost all capability of
speech.

He was capable of murder at that moment. All
of his fear for Jenna had finally quit clenching his heart,
dissolved from being a thing of absolute terror, turning into pure,
cold, calculating, venomous rage.

Thoughts had gone through his head,
wondering if she was dead, if she was hurting, and he had easily
lost his mind. She was his heart, and now that he realized it, he
would kill to get her back.

There was no way he would let her walk out
of his life after this. He meant to keep her, forever. She was his,
and nothing could change that.

But first, he had to be her hero.

God help Dobbs if she had harmed Jenna. He
would make her pay for any scratch or bruise on her body.

He had the disc; it had been encrypted over
the original coding, so that even if she did get it, she couldn't
find anyone who would be able to crack the code. Jenna had done
that. Her brilliance made him so proud of her. She had taken the
exact same code that had been used initially and switched it
around, creating formulas so alike but vastly different than the
original. And she hadn't even known she had done it.

That woman astounded him to the point of
speechlessness. And he knew he loved her. Knew that if anything
should happen to her, his grief would destroy him, making him a
useless shell of a man.

She had branded herself on his heart, and he
would never get her out of his system, despite the fact that she
was headstrong and stubborn, unwilling to listen to anything he
said.

She took life by the horns, and once he had
finally seduced her to his bed, she had given him everything, and
her willing body had told him without words that she did care for
him. He hoped it was as much as he did for her, for he wouldn't be
letting her get away from him so easily.

If he had to, he would get her another damn
cat that hated him, he would brave vicious claws and imagined
conversations in a heartbeat.

So there was only one thing he could do.
Save her and her sister.

He looked over at Alex, the one person he
trusted besides his father with everything he loved.

Alex nodded, understanding Jacob was getting
ready to call Dobbs. They had worked on hostage situations together
before, and knew each other's methods by instinct.

Jacob looked beyond Alex to the forty men he
had suited up in officer battle gear, and held up a hand.

They had their orders. No one moved until
Jacob came out of there with Jenna. It was a life or death
situation, and every one of the officers had been hand-picked by
himself, his brother, or his father. None of them would disobey
orders. They would all stay hidden until they could be sure Jacob
would get Jenna and her sister out. No hostages would be hurt
because of them.

A muffled pain-filled scream filled the air,
and he recognized it as Jenna's. Alex's hand at his shoulder
stopped him from rushing forward, much as he wanted to. He knew
that not sticking to the plan got men killed.

He took a deep calming breath, which did
nothing to help, and raised his binoculars in trembling hands.
There were too many windows that they couldn't peek through in the
warehouse. Twenty on each side, all too high unless someone could
climb a tree.

Men were stationed on every side,
effectively preventing any escape once they brought the walls down
on the fucking assholes in there. He would make each one of them
wish they were dead.

Another scream, this time much worse than
the first one, and he could hear her screaming unintelligible
words.

It was killing him.

He looked over at Alex, who muttered in his
mic for the remaining officers to get their asses in gear and get
in position.

The affirmation came quickly and Jacob
pressed the number on his phone.

"Jake, darling. Where have you been? I just
received the most startling revelation. Do you have my disc?" The
voice on the other end of the line sounded as if nothing was going
on. As if they were friends.

"I got it. Send them out and it's yours."
Was that his voice?

A chuckle on the other end. "I don't think
so, Jake. You know, she's a little hellcat. I thought you went for
the amiable, submissive type."

"Let her go, Dobbs." This through clenched
teeth.

"You're going to have to come in and get
her. Better hurry, though. Even now, I am about to let my two guys
have at her as they see fit."

His blood chilled even further and he
instantly tried to detach himself from his feelings.

"Oh, and Jake, she said she loves you."

The line disconnected.

He stood frozen for all of a second, hoping
it was true, feeling the horror of Dobbs' implications washing over
him. He quickly steeled himself against his thoughts and feelings.
Then he burst into motion. The disc was in his hand, his glock
discarded except for his baby glock, concealed at his ankle, and a
bullet proof vest adorned his massive aching chest.

He ran for the door, throwing it open and
then stopping. There were drugs everywhere, scattered on the tables
in the front half of the warehouse as if someone had stopped in the
middle of packaging. But Jenna wasn't there.

He quickly moved towards the sides of the
warehouse, throwing opened the doors there, peeking inside before
moving on.

Amy was huddled in one, lying on the floor
in a puddle of vomit, and he didn't even want to think of what had
happened as he noticed she was only half clad. She crawled away
from him as he entered, but recognition quickly dawned, and she
breathed a sigh of relief as Jacob scooped her up in his arms.

"She's in the back. Oh god…" Amy muttered,
trailing off as she began crying.

He carried her quickly to the door, setting
her on her feet and pushing her into a run towards his Tahoe parked
in the front. He deposited her where he knew Alex would get to her,
and ran back, passing the doors along the opposite wall of the
warehouse.

Frustration beat at him, but he believed
Amy. He wasn't going to waste time when she had told him where to
look. He knew every second counted, and he pushed himself faster,
barely turning corners in time to keep from knocking into
walls.

He turned another corner in the maze of
halls, and there stood a man holding a gun. He reversed his
direction, jumping behind the wall just as the man pulled the
trigger.

Damn it
. Jacob looked down at his
arm, where the bullet had barely nicked him. He didn't really feel
the pain, just saw the blood, and it just pissed him off that much
more.

Jacob didn't give the man time to hide. He
quickly dove out, coming up on his haunches as he palmed his
weapon, aimed, and pulled the trigger.

The man fell without a word.

Jenna screamed again, and he ran straight
down the hall, jumping over the dead body, to the last three doors
along the wall.

He threw the first door open. Empty.

The next. Empty again.

He moved to the last door, gun ready.

Slowly pushing it open, he peeked inside.
Dobbs was facing him, holding Jenna in front of her as a shield
with a gun held under Jenna's chin.

She smiled when he opened the door and
stepped in. "Jake. Wherever have you been? You've missed out on all
the fun."

"Let her go, Dobbs. Here's the disc." He
held it up in front of him so she could see that he had it.

"I don't think so. If I let her go, I lose
my chance out of here." She raised her eyebrow and nodded towards
his gun. "Why don't you just drop that and kick it over to
Don."

Jake took a calculating look at the guy. His
fly was unzipped, his pants peeled down slightly as if he had been
interrupted while undressing and Jacob felt cold fury seep into
him. He couldn't look at Jenna yet, couldn't inspect her for
damage, lest he lost control and got her killed.

The room was tiny, and he noticed that it
was one with a window high towards the top of the wall. His guys
were good, though. And if given the chance they would take Dobbs
out in a heartbeat.

But at that angle, he would have to get her
to move to exactly where he was standing, which meant she would
leave the room with Jenna.

He sat his gun slowly on the floor, kicking
it with his foot to her henchman.

Dobbs smiled, "Now then, hand over the
disc."

The goon stepped forward, one hand out to
grab the disc. Jacob handed it to him, inwardly smiling about the
scrambled formula codes.

"Ah, Jake. I wish you hadn't been involved
in this. It made things so much more difficult." She didn't sound
sad at all.

He couldn't help but notice the scratches on
Dobbs's face, as well as the swollen cheek and an on-setting black
eye. Putting two and two together, he suddenly had a wealth of love
for Jenna's cat. Chuckles had tried to protect her. "Why'd you do
it, Dobbs? You're supposed to be a law enforcer, but here you are,
breaking it in so many ways." He finally dared to take a look at
Jenna, and his throat clenched for her. Bruises marred her
beautiful face, and she was favoring one leg. Her eyes were wide
with fear, and dilated with something else.
