T
he sun breaks through the blinds, waking Robbie and Nora to a clear, bright morning. They spent every moment together for the last two weeks. They train, talk and make up for lost time. Robbie replaces Nora’s nightmares with fantasies and good memories. She didn’t mind because not only does she get a decent evening’s rest, but she also gets to revisit every moment that was good in her life.  Her favorite, she replays often. When she and Robbie were children, they shared an extraordinary field that overlooked a stream. They would lie in the grass and make shapes out of the clouds. They would create whole worlds with those clouds. Sometimes they were lucky enough to see the wild stallions drinking from the stream.

Nora rolls over to find Robbie propped up on one elbow, smiling down at her.

“Good morning, handsome,” Nora says.

“Good morning, my queen.”

He gives her a quick kiss just before getting out of bed and heading to the bathroom. Nora stays in bed and buries her face in her pillow. Robbie taps her on the shoulder. She turns and smiles. Robbie kneels beside the bed and grins.

“Now we make our final change,” he whispers.

“Oh yeah? How do we do that?”

He slides into bed, gently scooping her into his arms. The first kiss makes her go limp. He rolls his body over hers. Butterflies flutter uncontrollably in her stomach, and her eyes roll into the back of her head as his warmth runs through her. Each moment is timeless. Every kiss is long and breathtaking, and every touch lingers even after his hands have changed locations.

“Open your eyes,” Robbie whispers.

Nora gasps. The sky is covered with beautiful, fluffy clouds. If it wasn’t for the soft touch of Robbie’s roaming lips, and the warm feeling of extraordinary pleasure that shoots through her with each stroke, she would have been afraid. For a moment, she swore she was dreaming, but as her head flies back and loud moans rumble from her mouth, she knew that moment was all too real. They move together as if they were dancing as one to the perfect song on the clouds. Every touch softens Nora, and soon pleasure, excitement, and the perfect amount of tension shoots through her like bullets. Every part of her tingles. Robbie moans, sending their bodies spinning, deep into each other one last time. After the final burst of pleasure is complete, Nora again feels the softness of the bed pressed up against her back.

Opening her eyes is like opening them for the first time. Robbie’s mouth falls open, probably at the same time as Nora’s. Still holding her, he brushes her hair from her face with his free hand.

“The change is complete,” he says, lightly stroking her cheek. “Nora, you’re so beautiful.”

Nora stares at him, speechless. Still recovering from the most memorable moment of her life. The blue in Robbie’s eyes is brighter and trimmed with gold. A thin mustache curves perfectly on his firm, round face. His muscles have grown, clinging to his mouth-watering structure.

“You look like a god, Robbie,” Nora says. “The whole cloud thing was just in my head, right?”

“Nope, I can take you anywhere,” he says.

“You are truly amazing,” Nora says.

“Not as amazing as you.”

“Should I make breakfast?” Nora asks.

Robbie laughs and points to the clock that read 12:00 pm.

“What happen to morning?”

“We did. Time flies when you're having fun, doesn’t it?”

Nora runs her hands across his face, tracing his lips with her finger before kissing them.

“Well, my goddess, how long will you wait until you see yourself?”

Being so wrapped up in Robbie’s new appearance, Nora didn’t even think about what the change could have done to her. Excited to see her transformation. She kisses Robbie and starts to get out of bed. Before she can get off the bed, Robbie jumps to his feet. Panic in his eyes.

“Get dressed!” he says.

“Robbie, what’s wrong?” Nora asks, quickly slipping on her clothes and shoes.

“Nora, hold on to me. Our fathers need our help.”

She wraps her arms tightly around Robbie. Her fear and excitement work together, sending a rush of adrenaline through her.

Teleportation takes them to the middle of nowhere deep in the woods. A heavy aroma of rotting wood and damp leaves hang thick in the stillness of the well-lit forest. Robbie points passed a rotting tree to a hole that leads to a cave.

“In there,” he whispers.

Just as Robbie had explained, energy rushes Nora’s stomach as images of bright featureless beings flash in her vision. Her senses are working overtime almost confusing her. She catches a whiff of fresh animal dung mixed in the many earthy scents around her. She smells freshly baked apple pie from a cottage miles away. She can hear the footsteps of every lingering animal in the area, but more importantly, she feels pain. Not her pain, but her fathers. Anger propels her as she races deep into the cave.

“No!” she yells.

She slams a kick into the chest of a tall Light, which has just tossed her father’s body into the concrete wall. Before she has time to finish her thought, her spike is in her hand and she has turned that Light into silver slime which splatters the cave walls. A burst of energy tells her she is not done. There are so many tunnels she has no idea where the next Light will come from. All she knows is that more are coming. The tightness in her stomach settles as they approach, but the beating of her heart intensifies.

She is hit in the face with what feels like a two-by-four. She flies and flips until she slams head first into a wall. Two Light jump on her chest and stomach to hold her down.

“Dad!” she howls.

We are too late,
she thinks gazing at his body. Nora kicks off the Light that pinned her down and from behind, someone grabs a handful of her hair.

“Hello, Nora.”

Her voice is almost sweet, familiar. Nora’s eyes are swollen shut from hitting the wall, so she is unable to see her face.

“I will kill you,” Nora tells her.

“Ha! I love your determination. Let’s be realistic. You are the last of your group.”

“No!” Nora says standing up.

“That’s right. Everyone you love is dead. Including that dreamy boyfriend of yours.”

She and everyone around Nora laugh, as she pushes Nora’s head, causing her wobbling legs to collapse, making Nora fall to the ground and hit her head. Another Light jumps on her chest.

“I will kill you!” Nora yells.

“You lay under my feet, still mumbling you will kill me? Don’t you see, it’s over? You will die here in this dirty cave while I live the life you were meant to have,” the woman says, inches from Nora’s face.

Her words are like needles in Nora’s ears even though Nora doesn’t know what it is she meant by them. Her hot breath is like fire to Nora’s skin, causing Nora to flinch at every other word that comes out of her mouth.

“Nora! Get out, fight! Don’t give up!”

Nora could hear Robbie’s voice, full of pain, fading in and out of her head.

“Robbie?”

A burst of power flows from Nora’s toes to her head, moving quickly through her veins. Nora pushes a Light from her chest. She plunges her spike into the stomach of a human that stands in front of her. With a quick turn of her body, she sends her spike through a Light, aiming for its neck, for her intentions were to remove its head. She faces the rest of her attackers.  Blood and silver slime runs down her arms and face. She braces herself for the attack. A few moments pass and nothing. She can feel them, so she knows they are still there.

“Robbie!” she yells.

Every part of her body aches and her legs barely hold the strength to keep her up, but she is still ready to keep fighting.

“Robbie!” she yells again, wobbling more every second.

“Nora, you surprise me. I thought taking you out would be much harder. Thank you for making this so easy.”

Another human, so it seems. His voice is soothing, almost fatherly.

“Who are you?”

“We could have been friends. It’s a shame I have to kill you,” he says.

Nora lunges at him. Harsh energy hits her limbs. As her bones crack, she hears two gunshots, but only feels the burn of one bullet hit her chest. She keeps going, not stopping until she hears the cracking of a skull at the end of her spike. As a body falls limp so did hers. She hears a man yell.

“No! Damn it!”

Nora calls to Robbie until her voice is gone. Most of her bones are broken, and she can feel the life leaving her body. Her head falls back, her face grows cold, and her body loses all feeling.

Nora repeats Robbie’s name in her head many times for comfort until darkness drags her into a cold sleep.

“No! Not yet, please! Don’t do this, please send me back. Don’t let her die like this,” Robbie begs falling to his knees in front of the three gods.

They watch a holographic projection of the battle at their seats. Robbie is lifted gently from his knees and onto his feet.

“Just as your father has done for you, Noah has done the same for your young wife. There is something much bigger going on here than we all could have ever predicted. Robbie, look at your wife. Do you feel what we feel?” Tromtorrio says.

Robbie’s eyes fill with tears. He nods as he stares at Nora.

“We commend your fathers for their bravery. Can you do this young Robbie?” Desmond asks.

“What are you asking of me?”

“Dumont was blessed with our grace. As long as he continues to feed he will stay strong enough to create a disastrous hell upon earth. As you know, as gods cannot interfere, but if too much is taken from that world Dumont will rule. If that world is to survive Dumont must die. If he doesn’t we will destroy that planet. Can you kill him?” Tromtorrio asks.

Robbie looks at Nora and nods.

“We
can kill him,” he says.

Losrath shakes his head.

“No. That kind of bond takes more than true love. I hoped it could be done, but now—I don’t know. Once a Vilmo and their Szion are separated by death their bond fades. You two will not be strong enough. Nora may not stop loving you, but she will stop feeling you soon,” he says.

“No! We were not bound by you. Nora will never stop feeling me. We will always be bound, even in death,” Robbie says.

“Dear Robbie. Everyone wants to believe their love is the truest of them all, but love like that is not possible. I cannot trust it. We must destroy that world. We no longer wish to be a part of its destruction. It is too painful,” Desmond says.

“No! Please don’t do this. Our fathers just gave their lives so that we can try,” Robbie begs.

“I am sorry, but we are done,” they say as one voice.

Robbie drops to his knees.

“You no longer want that world. Give me and Nora the power to rule it. Our bond is as strong as yours is to each other. If you don’t want it anymore give it to me. Everything I am is in that world. Let me fight for it. You had to have some kind of faith in me, or I would not be standing here. Please, don’t do this. You asked me if I can save this world and I am telling you, yes. Feel me. Know that what I say is the truth,” Robbie begs.
