Damn, she was sexy. Although he watched all three of them, only the one with the red shirt was responsible for the reaction in his jeans. She didn’t look uncomfortable, but she must have noticed there were no other African-Americans in the joint tonight. He started having a bad feeling about this. Then again, he was cynical, jaded, and often had bad feelings about almost anything.

He was about to call out to his friend Jack to make sure he was on alert for any trouble when he noticed the woman he’d been watching get up from the table and begin making her way to the bar. He smirked and decided to hold off a bit before calling out to Jack. Things were beginning to look very interesting. He waited until she got a bit closer to the bar and realized that she would have to squeeze up next to him to place her order. Perfect.

He made a split-second decision and hoped like hell that it paid off. “Hey, Chip, the lady’s first round is on me.” He noticed her sideways glance at him while he gave her a full-on stare. Damn, she was even more beautiful up close.

“Umm, thank you. However, I’m buying for me and my two friends. I couldn’t ask you to buy our drinks.” She gave her order to the bartender, and as she went to pull out her credit card,
Austin
placed his hand on hers. When he felt her tense, he pulled his hand away slowly so that he didn’t startle her any further.

“No worries. I noticed you and your friends arrive a bit ago. I thought it would be nice to buy your first round to welcome you to Nick’s. Is this your first time here?”

She began tapping her foot and bit her bottom lip, and he wondered what that meant. When she sighed and turned toward him, he was pleased that he finally had her full attention.

“Yes, this is my first time here. Although I think my friend heard about this place long before tonight and wanted to check it out. Honestly, I don’t know how she talked me into this. I don’t even know how to country dance.”

Austin
knew this was his opening and decided to jump in feet first. “Well, I’ll be happy to teach you. I’m pretty good, and I’ve been known to take a turn around the dance floor a time or two.” Boldly looking at her from the bottom of her feet to the top of her gorgeous dark brown hair, he continued speaking to her. “I’d like to take you for a spin later once you’re ready to try your luck.”

He saw Chip place her drinks on the counter and quickly got his attention. “Chip, don’t forget to put these on my tab.” When he noticed she was about to put up a fuss, he tried to head her off. “It’s a friendly gesture, no more, no less. I’ll stop by your table later once you and your friends have had a chance to hang out for a bit. I’d really like to dance with you.”

“Well, okay. Thank you for the drinks. I’m not sure if I’ll want to dance later, but you can surely ask.”

“Oh, you can guarantee I will.”
Austin
watched her walk away and realized he didn’t ask for her name. He wasn’t worried, though. He knew he would get it later.

He was still watching her when his friend Jack walked up to him. “Hey, man, who are you looking at?” Jack turned his head and followed
Austin
’s gaze over to the table with the three ladies. “Who is she? Nice view.”

Austin
didn’t hesitate. “Jack, my friend, she may just be the future mother of my children.”

* * * *

Kara couldn’t take her eyes off of the guy at the bar. He was so damn fine it should be a crime. No one had the right to look that sexy while sitting in a bar wearing a pair of jeans and plain old blue T-shirt. She saw his friend walk up to him and say something, but her cowboy didn’t turn away from watching her. When his friend turned his head towards her as well, she knew that whatever they were talking about included her as the main topic.

The sexy guy’s dark blond hair was cut very short in what appeared to be a military style. Green eyes, the color of fresh grass, peeked out at her from under extremely long eyelashes. While standing at the bar, she noticed that he had long, tapered hands that looked extremely capable and strong. Actually, everything on this guy looked capable and strong.

She quickly dropped her eyes from the hot guy at the bar and whispered to her friends, “He’s still looking at me.”

That damn Lisa turned her upper body around to look towards the bar. “What? Who’s looking at you? Damn, girl, you got two fine-ass men looking this way. Can I have one?” Giving Kara a cheeky grin, Lisa winked at her and took a sip of her drink. “Better yet, can I have both?”

“Lisa, will you turn your crazy ass around and stop staring?” Heather was pulling on Lisa’s shirt while turning her body to the side to get a look herself. “I mean, it’s not like you haven’t seen a fine man before. Wait, oh damn, is that him? Shit, I take that back. He’s more than fine. He’s drop-your-undies-and-do-you-in-public fine.”

Kara was thankful for her toffee-colored skin like she’d never been thankful before. If her skin was any lighter, she knew her face would be flaming red and would probably match her shirt. “Okay, y’all have embarrassed me enough for one night. I’ll start telling some secrets to your mommas if you both don’t turn around.”

“Kara, girl, we ain’t never pulled a hottie like that. Let alone two. We just want to soak him up for a bit before we have to give him back to you.” Lisa patted her short hair and grinned. Kara envied her friends. They were both so much more outgoing than she was, and Kara wouldn’t necessarily call herself a wallflower.

“Well, we’re here tonight to have some fun, and I’m not really looking for a cowboy. If I get enough liquid courage in me, I may get up the nerve to go out on the dance floor. But that’s a huge maybe.”

Kara smiled as a song by a well–known country artist came on and people started heading to the dance floor. Her two girlfriends hopped up from the table and went to join the crowd, yelling at her to come and try. She knew there was no way she could even attempt those moves at this point, so she picked up her drink and saluted her friends. She shook her head as she heard Heather give a loud “Woo-hoo!” She decided that she was very glad she agreed to come out tonight.

As the night wore on, she couldn’t help glancing at the cowboy at the bar. She didn’t know his name, but she assumed he was a cowboy based on his looks and the fact that he was in a country bar.

Every time she glanced his way, he was looking at her as if she was the only person in the room. He hadn’t yet come over to ask her dance, and she admitted that she was somewhat disappointed.

He seemed tall, but since he was sitting down when they first met, she wasn’t sure. She was five-nine and wasn’t really attracted to men who were less than six feet. It was something about feeling safe and secure in their arms, and the height definitely made a difference. In her opinion, the taller they were, the better.

She glanced at him again and noticed the size of his arms and thighs. He looked strong enough to handle her, and then some. There was no doubt that he could give her some serious pleasure if she took him home tonight. Shit, if she was honest with herself, the man oozed sexuality from his very pores.

He had a sexy pussy-eating grin on his face whenever he caught her staring at him. It was as if he knew what she was thinking. Damn, she wanted him to say something to her! Kara was on the verge of getting up to ask him to dance when he moved off the barstool and started walking her way.

Oh yeah
, she thought as she watched him come towards her. He simply oozed sex. She had guessed right about him being tall. He looked to be about six-three or six-four with a flat stomach, an upper torso that was shaped like a
V
, and thighs that rippled beneath his jeans with every step he took. The way he strutted over to her showed that he was confident in his manhood, and although several women looked his way, his gaze never left her face.

Kara’s breathing became ragged, and she attempted several deep breaths to calm down and breathe normally. Arriving at her table, he slid into the seat across from her and gave her smile sexy enough to make her panties wet. “So, you ready for that dance?”

Even his voice was sexy. She felt like she was in that movie where everybody kept exhaling when a good man came their way. She unconsciously licked her lips while wishing he would say something else to make her body pulse. Not really focusing on the present, she somehow missed that she was supposed to respond to him.

“Ma’am, would you like to dance?” His voice, and finally the question, broke through her personal thoughts about kissing those luscious lips of his.

“Oh! Uh, yes, I would. Again, I have to warn you, I don’t know how to do these dances.” She couldn’t wait to be held in his strong arms. She’d dance with him all night long if given the chance. She briefly wondered why he had such a potent effect on her senses. This wasn’t like her to react to a man so strongly.

“It’s okay. We can wait until a slow song comes on. That will be little easier to deal with since there are less steps to learn.” He smiled at her when he finished, and she couldn’t help but smile back at him. It felt like the cat had her tongue, and she simply didn’t know what to say.

“So, your two friends seem to be having a good time. Have you known each other long?” That grin of his was deadly, and her body had an immediate reaction to him. She felt her nipples pebble and harden as she looked at his lips while he was talking to her.

She appreciated that he was trying to make small talk with her even though she didn’t need him to. What she really wanted to know is if he realized that she wanted to jump over the table and rip his clothes off. And she didn’t want to stop there. She wanted to sit on his face and ride his ass into next year. Bringing her thoughts back to the present, she knew she had to pay attention to the conversation.

“Yeah, they’re having a blast. Those two always keep things going. I’ve known them since high school and haven’t regretted it yet.” She paused to take a deep breath, realizing that she was talking too fast. “So, tell me a little about yourself. Do you live around here?”

“Well, I’m in the Navy. I’ve been in for almost twenty years. I joined when I was eighteen, and I’m coming up on my retirement soon.”

“I wish I could say the same. I work at a management consulting company, and I’m a long way from retirement. Hell, I’m still wishing I could win the lottery and retire to the beach! Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, but the constant dealing with clients each and every day can be stressful.”

“Yeah, I know all about stress.” Kara noticed that he looked a little somber at this last statement and didn’t want to go there with him tonight. This was a night for fun.
