Chapter Nine

Kayleigh
sniffed the air, her mouth watering almost obscenely.

After the shock of finding herself snowed in...
alone with Don, she had gone back to bed to try and sleep off her raging hangover.  She’d just woken to the tantalising aroma of home cooking.  Her stomach grumbled powerfully, objecting to the fact that she hadn’t eaten all day.

She licked her lips and reached for her glasses from the bedside table.
Sitting up she blinked owlishly at Don.

He brightened when he saw her.  “Hey you’re awake.  I heated up some lasagne.
You hungry?”

Her stomach angrily answered him.  “Well maybe just a little...”

Throwing back the covers she practically sprinted over to the kitchen table, inhaling the wonderful smell.  “God that smells good.  I feel like I haven’t eaten in days.”

They sat down to eat, each gladly bolting their food down.
Don hazarded quick glances in her direction.  He wasn’t sure what to say to her.
Sorry I brought you here and trapped you with me indefinitely?

Kayleigh
concentrated on her plate of food.  Whilst she napped she’d had another steamy sex dream about Don, this time she was a burglar and he was the police office who’d caught her...
What would Don think if he knew about her x-rated dreams?

When they finished she pushed her plate away and pursed her lips.  If she was going to stay here she had to overcome her
discomfort and just get on with it.  She just had to be careful not to say or do something stupid.  She had to avoid showing him how badly she was attracted to him and keep her raunchy imaginings to herself.

Sooooo... how bad is it out there?”

Don finished chewing and wiped his mouth on a napkin.  He had such good manner
s, how many other men used napkins in their own homes.  She almost swooned.
She gave herself a hard mental kick, getting turned on by a napkin was not a good start.

Everythin’s covered in snow, I can’t get my truck out and it’s too deep to walk anywhere.  I might be able to make it out in my wolf form, but I wouldn’t get far.  I’m sorry you’re not goin’ anywhere for now.”

Ever since he’d seen how bad it was out there he’d been fretting about being trapped so close to
Kayleigh.  His desire for her had been slowly rising since he met her, but after seeing her semi-naked it had gone through the roof.  His every nerve ending pulsed in anticipation of being with her, not to mention what was going on in his pants.
He doubted he’d ever be comfortable again.

His wolf and his body urged him to be with her, to take her.
Each time she slept he’d scented her arousal.
She was having a sex dream that was for darn sure!
He’d had to keep a tight rein on himself otherwise he might have crept into the bed and tasted her sweet honey.

He
wondered if she’d been dreaming of him, if she experienced hot dreams like he did for her... probably not.  She was likely dreaming of her asshole fiancée, although she hadn’t exactly seemed devastated when she was talking about him earlier, more... put out.

He needed to keep her at
arms length, if he gave in and they had sex ultimately he would break her heart.  She couldn’t be his mate, he had to think of Melinda.  Kayleigh wasn’t the type of woman you took to bed for one night, she was the kind you kept
forever
.

As much as he would love to be with her, he shouldn’t.  For her own sake, he had to save her from getting hurt in the long run.
If he played it cool and aloof, she wouldn’t want to be with him and it would take away temptation.

Kayleigh
played with her fork.  “I’m sorry you’re stuck with me here.”

“It’s fine.”  He replied curtly.

She frowned at his tone.  “Is there anything I can do to make this easier?”

He huffed.  “How ‘bout we both just stay out of each other’s way?  We’ll get along fine.”

“Ohhhhh kayyyyyy.”  She said slowly.
Had he had a personality transplant and she just hadn’t noticed?
“Can I make a phone call?”  She should at least let Greg know she wasn’t lying in a ditch somewhere.

Who did she want to call?
That dumbass Greg?  Did she want to talk to him?  To forgive him and give him another chance?  His beast yowled at that thought trying to push his way out.
No Kayleigh was ours!

Don gripped his own thigh under the table, pushing his claws inexorably into the skin
.  A little pain would give him perspective
.  Kayleigh did not belong to them.  He was resolved that after the snow melted she would leave his cabin and he would avoid her.
At all costs
.

“The land
line’s down due to the storm and your cell won’t work out here.”  He was pretty sure the land line was down... if he hadn’t neglected to pay the phone bill last month and been cut off he was pretty sure it would be down anyway due to the storm.

“Oh.”  She looked at the table.

His jaw twitched.  She was
disappointed about being here, the thought saddened and angered him in equal measure.

She hung her head, not wanting him to see her
dippy little grin.  She really was alone with him, it was like a real life romance novel!  All it needed was an erotic sex scene in front of the roaring fire...

Okay so he wasn’t exactly falling over himself to be with her, in fact he’d been pretty disinterested in her since they met.
Although he had brought her to his home when she was passed out drunk, another man might have just dumped her at home.  Don went out of his way for her.  Surely that meant something?
In her experience men didn’t do that kind of thing unless they wanted something... but she was the first to admit she hadn’t dated the cream of the crop.

She was half-certain he wasn’t entirely immune to her charms.
Maybe with a little persuasion...  A giddy thrill coursed through her at the thought of trying to seduce him.

There was just one thing that was nagging her
.  She hadn’t showered or brushed her teeth in over a day, she imagined she smelled less than
fragrant
.  She needed to freshen up a little before she let him anywhere near her.  Beside which, he seemed to be in a bit of a mood, a little time for him to get over his mini strop couldn’t hurt.

“I was wondering if I could take a
shower?”

Wordlessly he got up and moved
to the closet and pulled out another plaid shirt and a pair of black boxers
.  Just how many plaid shirts did he own?
Roughly he pushed them into her hands.  “There’re towels in the bathroom, just put your dirty stuff in the hamper.”

She beamed at him.  “Thanks.”

“I’m goin’ to bring in some firewood.”  He muttered.

No way did he want to be in the cabin whilst she was in the shower soaping up her naked body.
Just the thought of it sent him into a frenzy.  The freezing cold air would cool his ardour.

He yanked the door open, not even bothering with a coat, and stepped out into the white.

*

Kayleigh
stepped under the warm spray of the shower.  She moaned at how delightful it was to feel the water running over her skin.

Thankfully she always kept a travel toothbrush and a small supply of make up in her purse.
She’d given her teeth and tongue a thorough cleaning and after her shower she would artfully paint her face.

One weird thing about Don is that he didn’t seem to own many mirrors.  One in fact, a tiny one she found in the bathroom he must use for shaving.

Did he not care what he looked like?
She sighed, looking like that she guessed he didn’t have to.
He was a natural hottie
.

Still, if she lived here the first thing she would do was buy a full length mirror.
Who the hell didn’t check their reflection before they left the house?

She was looking up at the showerhead when she froze.  The most enormous spider was crawling down it towards her face.

Fuck she hated spiders!

Just back away, everything will be okay.

Carefully she took a step away and then the freaking spider fell onto her head and she screamed bloody murder.
It’s on her head, it’s on her head!
She flailed around screeching loudly.  Her feet slipped on the wet floor and she clutched the first thing she made contact with.  With a resounding rip she pulled the shower curtain down as she collapsed into the bottom of the bathtub.

A second later the bathroom door was wrenched open, shattering the lock.

“Kayleigh!”  Yelled Don, alarm laced his voice.

He strode into the bathroom, ignoring the destroyed shower curtain, and pulled her to her feet.

“What happened?”  He demanded, his face an inch from hers.  Even without her glasses she could see the panic in his face.

“It
is was spider.”  She told him fretfully.

He faltered and stared at her open mouthed.
“A... a spider?”

“It was huge!  It tried to kill me!”
Alright maybe she was being a little melodramatic
.

His eye twitched.
“Really?  Did it have a gun or a knife?”

“Ugh,
you’re making fun of me!”  She pouted prettily.  “I swear it was enormous!  And it launched itself at my head!”

She stepped out of the tub with his hands still gripping her, and she manoeuvred closer to him.  “I’m really scared of spiders, please get rid of it.”

She batted her eyelashes at him and chewed on her full red bottom lip.  Suddenly he was aware that Kayleigh was completely naked.
How could he have missed that?
Her warm, soft body and taut nipples were pushed against him.  He trembled in awareness as his manhood sprung to life.

Kayleigh
felt his shaft slowly growing between them.
No, he definitely wasn’t immune to her
.  She pressed herself against him and heard an imperceptible groan escape his lips.

Don’s eyes scanned the room.  Superficially to look for the supposedly killer spider, but in reality it was anything to avoid looking at her glorious body.
Less than twenty minutes ago he had resolved to stay away from her and now lewd thoughts were racing round his head.
Well she was already naked...

“I think the spider’s gone.”  He leaned down and breathed in her scent,
honeysuckle and desire
.  His wolf howled in appreciation.

“Probably on the run for attempted murder.”
She purred at him, a coquettish look on her face.

Oh crap!  He should really leave.
Now.  His legs and his beast didn’t agree with that though...

Her hands roamed over
the hard contours of his chest.
God he had muscles upon muscles
.  “You’re wet and cold.”

His chest
heaved, his breathing became laboured as his arousal mounted.  “I’ve been outside...”

She nodded as her fingers toyed with the buttons on his shirt.  “You should take your clothes
off, you don’t want to catch a chill.”

Kayleigh...”

He watched her unmoving.  Desire was etched into his face and he moved his hands down her body until they rested at her hips.  Smoothly he reached round and cupped her buttocks, kneading them lightly.

Encouraged she began unbuttoning his shirt.  His eyes were flooded with amber as he gazed at her with unabated passion.

As she came to the last button his lips sought h
ers and she gasped at the unexpected kiss.  He pushed his tongue inside tasting her sweet mouth.  She moaned and met him with a fiery kiss of her own, her tongue tangling with his, wanting more.

Dimly he was aware that maybe he shouldn’t be doing this...
but
he couldn’t stop himself now
.  His wolf roared joyfully.  Pulling away from her he tore the sodden clothes off his body and angled her back into the bathtub, climbing in after her.

He pushed her against the cold tiles
. She shivered a little but quickly pulled his face to hers for a devastating kiss, heat pouring through her body.

He ran his hands over her body, massaging her ample breasts
before moving back to her buttocks.  They honey flowed from her under his manipulations.

Leaving her ass he snaked a finger through her damp folds
swirling it inside her while rubbing his thumb against her clit.  She wailed tempestuously into his mouth.
Had it really only been a couple of weeks since she last had sex?
Her body was feverish with need.
