Chapter 26

Ayce

Ric called me a couple days ago and told me the whole story about Duce's wife Mia. He said she really has it out for Duce and to watch out for Ava because he didn't know what she was planning, or who else was involved. The name Mia sounded so familiar, but I couldn't figure out where from. All this time I've been with Ava and I didn't even know Duce had a wife.  I lay in the bed next to Ava and watched her as she slept peacefully. We had been to the hospital twice already and both times were false alarms. I was just ready for Junior to get here so I can hold him in my arms. My mind had been everywhere lately; my mother, my sister, who now calls herself having a boyfriend, school and Ava. She received a phone call a couple days ago and I heard the whole conversation. The way the conversation went, I knew she had to be talking to that bitch ass nigga, Maurice. What I didn't understand is that why after all this time he was calling her. I know she didn't tell me because she didn't want me to worry about it, but I couldn't help but to wonder if they have talked after that day. I looked at the clock and knew I had to get ready. It was 1:49pm and I have class at three. Going into the bathroom to relieve myself, I hear my cell phone ring.

“Yo,” I said into the phone still pissing in the toilet.

“I don't have long to talk so listen closely nigga. This bitch Mia ain't no joke. She killed Duce and her brother is Maurice. Just so you know, whatever you hear ain't true about me, I would be the last one to ever cross Duce, you of all people know this. I can't take her out yet ‘cause she’s pregnant with my seed. Shit about to hit the fan so stay up,” Ric said, then the line went dead.

“Fuck,” I yelled waking up Ava.

“What's wrong Ayce?” she said trying to get out of the bed.

I didn't want to tell her what's going on because I knew she would be out for blood, but how can I keep it from her.

“Nothing baby, just got some piss on the floor.”

I closed the door and turned on the shower. Stepping in, I let the hot water roll over my body. This shit was fucked up and I couldn't fix it. I made up my mind that I would wait until Ava has the baby to tell her about her father. I know she is going to be mad, but it's for her own good. I can't believe Mia and Maurice took down Duce and I wonder what’s going to happen to the rest of his crew.

When I came out of the bathroom, Ava was sitting up on the bed looking like she was in pain.

“I hope you cleaned that piss up,” she said as she walked into the bathroom.

I got dressed and got ready to leave for school. I just made it down the stairs when I heard Ava yelling.

“Owwwwwwwwwweeee shit, Ayce baby, it hurts so badly.”

Running back up the stairs, I see Ava in the doggy style position on the floor. I know she’s having a contraction, so I waited until it subsided before I went to help her off the floor. The first time I tried to touch her during a contraction she cussed my ass out, so now I just leave her alone until it passes.

Helping her back into the bed another contraction hit her and she squeezed the shit outta my hand.

“Ayce, I think this is it. He's coming out today.”

“You may be right this time, but let’s wait a little longer. Let me help you into the shower and get you some food in your stomach because you’re going to need the energy.”

After the contraction passed, she allowed me to help her into the shower. I turned the water on as hot as she could stand it and I washed her up which took longer than usual, because she had two more contractions. When I finished washing her up, I led her out the shower and left her to brush her teeth. While washing her up my clothes got wet, so I went into our bedroom and changed my clothes then went down stairs to fix her something quick to eat. Going back upstairs to check on Ava, I see that she is already dressed.

“You have another contraction since you've gotten out the bathroom?”

“No, thank God, but let’s go eat and call the doctor and let her know we are on our way in.”

I made sure I grabbed our bags before we made our way downstairs to eat.

“Mmm baby, this sandwich is the bomb.”

“It’s just a cold cut sandwich, but ok.”

Before she could respond she had another contraction.

“Ayce, we can finish eating these in the car. Please take me to the hospital now so I can get your son out of me.”

Six hours after we arrived at the hospital, Ava gave birth to Jayce Langston Thomas, Jr. I watched as she held him in her arms for the first time and I knew that I was going to marry her. We are meant to be and my son deserves a family.

Taking Junior from Ava so she can rest, I looked at him. He was perfect. I had to admit, I felt bad that he would never know any of his grandparents and I knew that I had to tell Ava about Duce soon. When the nurse came in and took Junior, I figured I would have a moment to speak to Ava, but she was knocked out. She was complaining about pain, so the doctor had given her some hard meds that would take the pain away and allow her to get some much needed rest.

“I love you Ava,” I said kissing her on the cheek before I left out the room to call Kalie and get me a bite to eat.

When I came back to the room, I didn't see Ava and assumed she went down to see the baby, but when I walked to the nursery I saw Junior, but I didn't see Ava. I walked back to the room and I still didn't see her. I even looked in the bathroom, even though the door was wide open.

Walking out to the nurse’s station I ran into Ava's nurse.

“Where is Ava?” I asked her.

“She was just in her room, did you check the nursery?”

“Yeah, I checked the nursery, she wasn't there.”

“Well Mr. Thomas, I don't know where else she could be.”

“No, that's not a good answer for me. She was here when I left and now she’s gone and none of y'all know where the fuck she is?”

“Mr. Thomas, we need you to calm down.”

“Calm down? Y'all losing patients and shit and I need to calm down? Find Ava, that's what the fuck y'all should be doing.”

I could see security approaching, but I didn't give a fuck. How does a person come up missing in a damn hospital with all these fucking people?

“Y'all need to be calling security to find my fucking wife.”

“I understand you are upset, but we are going to have to ask you to leave if you don't calm down sir.”

“Oh I ain't going nowhere because I ain't leaving my son here with y'all niggas for him to come up missing as well. Believe that. I want Ava back in this room in the next ten minutes or so help y'all it ain't going to be pretty.”

With that I walked away and tried to look for Ava myself. When I left the room she was knocked out and now she is mysteriously gone.

Chapter 27

Ava

I opened my eyes expecting to see Ayce and my son, but all I was greeted with was darkness.

“What the fuck,” I said as I tried to sit up, realizing I was being held down by something. It seemed like the more I struggled, the tighter it got.

“Calm down baby, everything is going to be ok.”

I recognized the voice, but didn't understand why it was his voice I was hearing instead of Ayce's.

“Where am I and why am I tied to the damn bed?”

“You are somewhere safe and you are tied to the bed because I want to talk to you before I untie you.”

“Talk about what? There is nothing to talk about. And turn on the fucking lights so I can see you. I already know who you are,” I said growing impatient.

He flicked on the light before he walked over to me with a smile on his face, and all I wanted to do is fuck his ass up.

“Now untie me.”

“So you can go gangsta boo on me? No, not yet.”

“What the fuck do you want?”

“You already know the answer to that question.”

“So you so fucking thirsty to have something that's not yours, that you kidnap me from the hospital after I have just given birth to my son? Only a pussy ass nigga would do something like that.”

The way he looked at me I knew that I hurt his ego, but I could care less at this point.

“See, now the old me would have fucked you up for saying some slick shit out your mouth like that, but I'm not that nigga no more. I just want to build something with someone who wants the same thing out of life that I do.”

“What I want out of life is to raise my son with the man that I love. Fucking around with you was a mistake.”

“No, what you want is to run these streets, it's what you have always wanted. You may have tried to be settled around Ayce, but we both know that's not the real you. Now, what I'm about to tell you, you may not like but you have to know… Duce is dead.”
