Back-story

Raised as a ward of the state, Rick never knew his parents; 18 years in an orphanage turned him into a solitary creature with cruel tendencies. Was he abused there? I think that’s a safe assumption.

At 19, he was fired from a local store for theft and at 20 committed his first felony. The car he stole was never found. Neither was the bank’s money and he was never arrested.

At 23, Rick was picked up for flashing young girls from his car, but again, the system failed. Just a year later, he tried to rape a teenager in the theater he worked at. She was hurt in the process and he finally went to jail.

When the War came, he was serving 8 years and working as a janitor due to good behavior. Rick opened the cell doors of the prison, allowing the other dangerous inmates freedom. When Cesar arrived to free his family, Rick saved his life and was rewarded with slavery instead of death. Rick is the only white male Cesar and his slaves have left alive.

Backstory:

Unlike most of the others at Safe Haven, Todd had a decent childhood. His mom was a prostitute who died in the jailhouse during the birth. His father, a sheriff, did a good job raising his unwanted and unexpected offspring.

Todd followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a cop and then an Arizona State Trooper, but he has always worried about how much like his mother he really is. It makes him very straight-laced.

When the war came, he and his dad tried to defend the jail. Todd was the only one to survive. He found Kyle a week later, rescuing the Mobster from a car accident and the unlikely pair became fast friends. Neil has never let his hair down and refuses to go anywhere without his Trooper’s hat. Everyone assumes to be his. It really belonged to his father, and he wears it to honor a hero who fell in the line of duty.

Jeremy

Not very much is known about Jeremy, by readers, camp members, or the Eagles. Even I only have a vague, shadowy picture.

He worked in an office, he had extra money lying around, and he knows how to manipulate things… like Adrian.

I suspect there’s a lot more to him. (I honestly thought Billy, the pony-tailed blond Eagle on Kyle’s team-would play this role.). I also assumed it was all a setup to get Neil and Sam together. As soon as I started writing it, I found out how quickly he fell for her. Maybe he was on the rebound from the death of a mate who looked like Sam. I think that’s very likely.

In Book One

Samantha

After being taken from her Seattle office at gunpoint during the apocalypse, Samantha's chopper crashes and she is taken hostage by the Cruz brothers. Abused and hurting, to get her life back, she has to take theirs and learns a harsh lesson in survival.

Kenn/Cadet

Kenn and the cadet were missed in the evacuations and instead of heading home for the boy’s pregnant mom, the Marine heads them for NORAD, sure the timid little woman he'd controlled for so long, couldn't have survived the end of the world. These two are picked up by Safe Haven Mobile Refugee Camp and the Marine quickly begins building himself a place among these strong survivors.

Angela/Brady

Angela lost her baby in the war and that pain forced her to face the awful truth. Without using her gifts, those forbidden powers that have kept her chained to Kenn for more than ten years, she will never see her teenage son again. Forced to wait for her body to heal before she can start her quest, Angie calls out to her son's real father, Brady. They are reunited in the post apocalyptic remains of Indiana and it's clear that the sparks are still there.

Adrian

Adrian has a secret that no one knows and he struggles to keep it hidden even as he risks everything to gather his flock. He is a Leader, a Patriot, and there's nothing he won't do in his quest to keep some of his Country alive.

Cesar/Rick

Rick is a traitor. He belongs to the leader of a group of Mexican Guerilla's that are intent on destroying what's left of the post apocalyptic United States. Cesar leads these ruthless killers, sending Rick into camps of refugees as his spy, before murdering the men and taking the women hostage. Cesar hates America and heads up Interstate 25 like an end of the world plague. He thinks he is unstoppable but already, there's a nagging worry that the forces of fate have something planned. For now, though, his reign of terror goes unopposed.

Mother Nature

Angry at the callous indifference of humans, Mother Nature has called her creatures together for the apocalypse. Animal attacks and ambushes become common place and add yet another adventure these brave souls must face in their quest for survival.

In Book Two

Angie
was forced to really use her magic in self defense and became haunted by the man’s ghost. She and Brady endured violent storms, bridges collapsing, and being ambushed by a large pack of predators. They were also found by her Marine, just when their romance had finally begun to grow.

Kenn
worked his way deep into the Safe Haven chain of command, earning Adrian’s right side with clever solutions, daring rescues into the post apocalyptic wastelands, and vague, dangerous lies. Sensing Angie nearby, Kenn left the refugee camp and found her with the one man he has always felt threatened by.

Samantha
has almost died so many times since the War that her self confidence is shattered. She longs to be with normal people again. Instead, Sam was captured by Cesar and forced to barter her body to escape. When she and Rick, the traitor, made it to Safe Haven, the blonde was in a bad way.

The Slavers
have locked onto Safe Haven now, eager for the supplies and women but mostly to control Angela’s magic. The twins want to make her a ghost for the humiliation handed out in Indiana. Rick, the traitor, was sent in as the first wave and the entire camp of ruthless killers are on the way.

Kendle

After her Cruise Ship capsized in the apocalypse, Kendle Roberts spent an eternity adrift on the relentless ocean, praying for survival and defending herself against radiation sickness, starvation, and sharks. A famous survival adventure star before the end of the world, her skills save her again and again, her life replacing the many awards she’s won. When LJ stumbles upon her boat, he recognizes her instantly as his own kind. Haunted.

In Book Three

Let’s see… Marc broke Doug’s nose, Dog pissed on some Eagles, Kendle realized she has feelings for LJ, Angela stared thinking about joining Adrian’s army, Kenn’s abuse was discovered by everyone, and Adrian has already begun to use Angela’s magic to find supplies and survivors. It was a busy 5 days.

After months of carrying the burdens alone, Adrian has the help he needs.
 
Five of the six have come and he can’t wait to get things started. With Angie’s magic and his belief, he is about to rebuild an entire country.
 
If he can keep them out of the Slaver’s path long enough to get these special survivors to bond. If they won’t work together, America has little chance at survival either.

Will Adrian be able to keep his people out of Cesar’s evil control long enough to finish the training he’s begun? The enemy numbers are over 300 and growing. There are currently 64 Eagles in Adrian’s army. Maybe if Brady can come up with the right plan and Angela can tell him when. He’ll also need Sam to warn him when Nature is attacking. John will look after their health and Kenn will…get banished if he can’t let go of Angie, who has found something she really wants (even though no one else, not even Brady, wants her to try for it).

Book Four

The Survival of America: everyone is on equal ground, working for a common goal, yet it won’t happen overnight and not everyone can handle Adrian’s version of safety, including some of his closest people.
