The next day they visited Magic Kingdom.  The following day they went to Universal Studios.  They enjoyed each day very much.  It was indeed a much needed short vacation.

When they got back home David arranged to have half of the closed labs converted into a much larger music room, it was almost the size of an actual large stage.  He continued his work as a surgeon but even that had to be cut down because of reporters always hanging around.

Their next show led them to do more and more concerts.  It wasn’t long before they found themselves traveling around the world on tour.  They enjoyed this time of entertainment for a long while, then they began to tire.  Their music was on all the top charts and the interviews, clubs, films and such began to wear them down.

After a year’s tour was over they were absolutely exhausted.  They had raised millions of dollars and the Jontu Foundation Fund even broadened its recipients as well.

The women picked out three unmarried women who had children and became their hidden benefactors  The women and children received a new home and an education.  The children were well dressed and fed.  The three previous Welfare women began to develop a sense of self worth and became active in their communities.  Mel, Beth and Mary were very pleased with what they had done.

On Mel's twenty-second birthday they decided to take on three new recipients a piece.  The results were good just as expected.

Their infamous faces and names made it difficult for them to go anywhere.  They now had to be in disguise any time they left their home.

Jon and Mark had created and sold several new ground breaking computer programs.  The programs were what they had played with as little boys, but the programs were scientific in nature.  The programs weren't an aid in advancing Earth's space technology or their weapons ability so the men felt safe about selling them.

After getting irritated with having to go incognito everywhere they soon decided that enough was enough.  They stopped giving concerts.  Their music had out sold all previous records.  The money from them went into a fund that assured that all their families wouldn't see poverty for many generations.

CHAPTER 6  *  *

HORRIBLE HAPPENING

Six months later David had been approached and was asked to do one last concert.  The money from a new album along with the concert would completely build a children's burn hospital and take care of three orphanages for two years.  When David asked all of them about it, they agreed, but none, not even David, were too happy about being in the public eye again.

All of them had received tons of fan mail.  Most were nice.  Some of the letters were disturbing, while a few of the others were down right sick.  There were always the crackpots who showed up at almost every event they had.  There had been break-ins and one attempted kidnapping of Melody that had gotten everyone upset, but, they would do it again, just this one last time.

Jonathan, David and Mark were on stage wearing their torn tight blue jeans and their brown leather vests over their shirtless chests with a blue head band on Jon and David and a green one on Mark.  Their rough brown knee high side laced boots completed their look, along with their hair that was fluffed out and gave them a wild look.

The concert was set in a huge football stadium and was overflowing.

Melody sang her heart out, feeling this would be the last time she would ever be on stage.  Her song choices were a few of those songs that always brought the house down.  It didn’t fail this night either.

When she completed her last set for the night she went out the back stage door and headed for their private bus.  Three guards ran with her.  She couldn’t wait to take

a shower and cool off.

She had given her all in the performance this evening, wanting everyone in the audience to remember her.  Her plans now were to ask Jonathan for that baby girl, and to enjoy being Mama again.

When the show was over everyone ran to the bus with their guards encircling them.  They all managed to get inside and the bus started pulling out.

Jon jumped into the shower first, beating David in the rush.  When he came out he went into the bedroom at the rear to check on Mel.  She wasn't there.

“Mel?  Where are you baby?” Jonathan called out as he headed toward the front where all the laughter was.  “Mel!  No games.  Where are you?” Jon called again when he didn't see her.

When she didn't answer everyone hushed.

“Stop the bus!  Stop the bus!” Jonathan screamed at the driver.  The driver found a place and pulled over.

“Where's Mel?  Where the heck is Mel?  Has anyone seen her?!” Jonathan yelled out to the top of his lungs, losing it.

“Jon, I saw her leave with those three new security guys right after her last song.  They were taking her toward the bus,”  Mary quickly admitted with fear shining from her eyes.

       “What
new
security guys, Mary?!  There weren’t any
new
security guys!” Jonathan yelled out in growing panic.

Looking toward the driver, Jonathan bellowed, “Turn this thing around and get us back there now!”

“Jonathan, the chief of security came and told Mary and me that you had added some extra men tonight to watch Mel, for us not to let the new faces scare us!” Beth blurted out before she suddenly burst into tears.

David came out with a towel around him after hearing the screaming that was going on.  Seeing Beth crying and Jonathan towering over her he jumped in front of her and demanded of his father, “What the heck's going on Jon!”

“Melody's missing David,” Jonathan explained, suddenly low and soft.

“What?  Holy blue and green planets!  When and where did she disappear? Has there been a complete search, everywhere in here?”  David was startled and now badly shaken.

“Someone sent some supposedly new bodyguards to escort her to the bus, but she never made it,” Jonathan announced loudly, picking up his second wind.

Mark wrapped his arms around Jonathan's shoulders and suggested, “Well, maybe they got swamped with fans and had to take her to a safe place, then we drove off before they could catch up with us.  Yeah!  Jon, I bet that was it!”  Deep down inside he doubted it had happened that way, but he had to help Jonathan get himself together.

Even though they had gone only a few miles it seemed like an eternity to Jonathan before they reached the stadium again.

Mark hurriedly got busy on the phones.  There was a massive search going on now.  The security chief swore that Jonathan himself had talked to him just before Melody's act, stating that he had some new men assigned to Melody because of some quack call they’d received earlier that day.

Jonathan did know about the call the security chief had told him about, that was the very reason he had decided definitely
not
to have any
new
faces to worry about.

The stadium was still well over half full when they got back.  The crowd had been the biggest ever and traffic was a tremendous problem.  They were finally allowed to pull down into the underground tunnels where all the buses went to unload for a show.

Jonathan leaped out and began running at top speed to stop one of his men who was about to go up the stairs.  David and Mark ran right along with him.

“Tanjato . . . stop!” Jonathan ordered in a loud bellow.

The man halted and turned around.  Seeing it was Jonathan he ran to him.  “Sire!  They told me that our Lady has disappeared!  Please say that it is not so!”  Seeing his Prince’s distressed look left no doubt of the seriousness of the rumor.

“Tanjato, when was the last time you saw her?  Did any of the other men see her get in the bus or being taken there or anywhere else?” Jonathan asked.

“I saw her being put into the limo, not the bus.  I kept an eye on her even though you did have those three new men with her, I just wanted to look out for her,” the man answered.

“Why does everyone say that I had three new men as her bodyguards?” Jonathan said throwing his arms up into the air, looking like he was going to scream again.

David grabbed one of Jonathan’s arms and said, “Dad!  That’s what we have to find out.  Who this person was or why they thought he was you.”

David turned to Tanjato and asked, “Did you see another man that looked like Jonathan here tonight?”

“Sire, I only saw you, uh, hum, him, when he was with the other security guards talking, but come to think of it he never did actually turn around and look at me.  Those men coming there were talking with him,” he announced as he pointed to a group of five men heading their way.

Beth and Mary had joined the men when the other security guards arrived.

“Hey, Mr. Jontu!  I hear there's a problem brewing?” the lead man said.

“Brewing heck, it's boiling over!  I want someone to tell me right now why there were any new men out here tonight!” Jonathan said through clenched teeth.

“You posted them yourself, Mr. Jontu!” one man dared to say.

“I, I repeat, I - did not post any new men!” Jonathan exclaimed.

       “Well sir, he certainly looked
exactly
like you!”  The poor man saw the flames shooting out of Jonathan's eyes and immediately changed his tone.  “I thought it was you sir.  I admit I didn't see him up close.  But you, I mean he, kept looking out over the crowd and seemed to be
really
upset.
He
said that there had been a threat on Melody's safety and he wouldn't take any slack in protecting her.  He had three new men that were to see her safely to the limo.  Due to the threat he stated that wanted her to take a different route to hopefully throw anybody off that might do her harm.”

Jonathan was looking down at the ground, his hands were two dangerous looking fists that kept hitting against the sides of his thighs.  He finally looked up and asked, “You said that you didn't see him up close, how far away was he?”

“Oh, only about seven feet away.  Like I said, he acted upset and kept looking at the crowd, like you usually do when you're worried.  I only saw his profile, he had on a cowboy hat and dark glasses.  I thought that it was unusual but who was I to question your costume.  His voice was low but it carried clearly, just like yours does.”  The man turned to the other guards and asked, “Did any of you see him up close?  I mean get a good front face view of him?”

“I did!  He did have on the glasses and hat but his face was shaped like yours and his nose and mouth looked the same except that he kept putting this unlit cigar in his mouth.  I thought that it added to the cowboy effect real nice.  He was wearing jeans and a brown leather vest identical to yours and had on the same boots too!  Oh, another thing, he needed a shave!  The whole look was consistent, even though he hadn't shaved, it was strictly Western.”

“Son of a Trailian beast! The son of a Trailian beast of burden!” Jonathan yelled loudly to no one.

Then looking at Mark he screamed, “He's got my Mel, Mark.  That son of a beast has got my Mel!  That motherless son of Satan!  Mark - Heavens help me!  We have to find her.  There's no telling what that crazed, insane maniac will do to her.  We have to start looking.  Let’s go!”  He had turned and was running to the bus then suddenly stopped, dropped to his knees on the concrete and roared like a wounded lion.

He turned his head to David with tears pouring down his face and said, “Help me, please.  I can't think, Son.  Think for me for just a little while . . . okay?”

“Dad, we'll find her.  Don't worry, there's not a place on this earth that we won't search!  Come on now, let's go home so Mark and I can get everything organized,” David said as they all helped Jon to his feet.

“Mark, Dad's in bad shape.  He needs a sedative and I don't have any with me.  You get on the phone with the police while I try to get him drunk, since he's not thinking too clearly he might let it work,” David said with desperation in his eyes.

In short time they reached the airport and boarded their private jet to fly home.  Jonathan knew the surveillance equipment they had in their labs would be the most benefit to them now, in their search for his mate.

“Mark, what's being done?  Have they got any clues yet?” Jon asked stumbling down the stairs after finding himself alone in his bed back home.

“Not yet Jon, but they started watching the airports, bus stations and railways the minute we notified them that she was abducted.  There's an all points bulletin on all the radio and television stations.  Interpol is searching as well.  Mel has such a well known face they feel sure that it will be only a matter of a day or two before they locate her.”  Mark wished that he had something more concrete to tell him, because Jon needed to hear it soon.

“Dad, we've set up scanners on the ship and they're searching very home and hotel in that area now.  It's hard for a limo with a famous celebrity to just disappear,” David said, giving Jonathan hope.

The main dining room had been turned into a huge communications center.  Jon was pleased to see that the equipment had been set up so fast.  He immediately sat down at a panel of screens and put on a disk of their last performance.  He hoped to see the sluggard.  Whoever he was, he may not know it yet, but he was a walking dead man!
