Lane groaned, one arm still wrapped around Anna, fingertips digging into the small of her back. She pulled Anna down against her thigh, then turned her head, lips seeking Anna’s, her free hand reaching up to Anna’s hand on her breast to guide their joined hands down. As Anna’s fingers slid against her, Lane’s head fell back against
the pillow.

Blissfully, Lane’s eyes closed and her lips parted as Anna ran one finger along her,
teasing her.

“Fuck.” Lane’s voice echoed loudly in the room, her eyes snapping open as Anna pushed the one finger slowly into slick heat. A groan at the sensation fell from Anna’s lips as she pressed her lips to Lane’s shoulder. The hand on her back slid to her ass, pressing her harder against Lane’s thigh. The rhythm Anna set with her hand was matched by the gyration of her hips. She was so wet, she slid against Lane’s thigh easily. Too much. All of Lane was too much—the taste, the sound,
the smell.

Lane’s heel pressed into the mattress, fingertips digging into Anna’s ass, still guiding her movements, while her other hand gripped Anna’s wrist almost painfully as she moved in her. The desperate feel of Lane’s fingers against her wrist almost made Anna
lose control.

“Anna.”

If she could, Anna would listen to her name fall from Lane’s lips like that every day. Husky, dead sexy. She wanted to spend forever seeing just how many ways she could make her name sound
like that.

“More?”

Anna’s lips collided against Lane’s in a messy kiss, slow pace never altering except to add a second finger. Her fingers curled, deep in
wet heat.

Grunting into the kiss, Lane’s hand finally let go of Anna’s wrist to come up and grip the back of Anna’s neck, holding
her close.

Anna concentrated on the sounds Lane made, slowly pulling her fingers almost completely out before pushing them back inside. The sound of how wet Lane was, coupled with the feeling of Lane gripping her fingers, drove Anna to the edge. She sped the tempo up—slowly, her eyes never leaving Lane’s face. Anna’s hips kept pace with her hand, her forehead pressed to Lane’s, lips pressed against her cheeks as they panted, the odd swear word coming from Lane’s lips as Anna moved
inside her.

Lane’s hips met Anna’s fingers thrust for thrust, Anna now having to match Lane’s pace. Her own hip movements started to lose their rhythm as a familiar tingling started in her lower stomach and she desperately sought whatever friction she
could get.

Anna curled her fingers, meeting Lane’s request for, “Fuck, harder, please” instantly. The rhythm of Lane’s groaning matched perfectly the thrusting of Anna’s fingers. This was heaven—hot,
sensual heaven.

Lane’s head fell back against the pillow. Anna’s pressed against her shoulder, biting down as she felt herself start to come undone, orgasm washing over her, hips thrusting forward uncontrollably one last time against
Lane’s thigh.

Through the haze of her own orgasm, Anna pressed her palm down and felt Lane’s whole body tighten around her fingers. She thrust forward a final time, and Lane came with a groan, nails dragging up Anna’s back. Anna hissed as pain clashed deliciously with pleasure. Lane’s thighs shook before her legs fell limply against
the bed.

Anna let her arm go out from under her, collapsing half on top of Lane and half on the bed, face pressed against sweaty skin. Her hand stayed between Lane’s thighs, not willing to lose the connection just yet. With a slight turn of her head, she pressed her lips to
Lane’s neck.

Humming, Lane rested a hand on Anna’s forearm. Their bodies lay still, trembling slightly, erratic breathing
calming slowly.

“I think you
broke me.”

Anna chuckled. “Right back at you.” She finally gave in, slowly removing her hand and resting it on Lane’s stomach. Her head came up to rest on her other arm, face inches
from Lane’s.

Lane’s brown eyes were dark, soft in the light coming in off the street. “You kind of broke yourself.” Lane smirked and it provoked another laugh
from Anna.

“True.” Again, Anna’s lips moved against Lane’s lazily, the kiss ending naturally. “That whole thing
felt incredible.”

“You’re incredible.” Lane had a dreamy look on
her face.

Anna’s smile widened. “You’re a sap.” She fell back on Lane’s arm. “Are
you comfortable?”

“Incredibly so.”

“Excellent.” Anna burrowed into Lane’s side further, relaxing completely. “Then we don’t have
to move.”

Lane wrapped her arms around Anna, pulling her
closer. “Sleep?”

Anna nodded against Lane’s shoulder. “God, yes. It must be
nearly five.”

Lane groaned. “Call in sick tomorrow—I
mean, today.”

Anna gave a snort that was probably not very attractive, but she was too relaxed to care. “Hi. It’s Foster, can’t come in. Instead of sleeping like we were meant to be, since I was given a late start, I was busy having mind-blowing sex with one of your casual
pool nurses.”

“I see nothing wrong
with that.”

“You wouldn’t.”

“Are you
really sleepy?”

Anna tilted her head up, smiling slyly at the twinkling in Lane’s eyes. “Not as much as I
should be.”

Lane moved quickly, rolling over so she hovered above Anna. “Good. Because,” Lane kissed her, once, before pulling back, “I
really
want to
taste you.”

Anna
actually gulped.

Sleep
be damned.

The smell of coffee awoke Anna to an empty bed. She stretched her arm out to make sure, and forced her eyes open when it confirmed that there was definitely no Lane. Glancing at the alarm clock, she groaned. It was only nine. Three hours of sleep meant that Anna was in for a very
long day.

With languid slowness, she slipped out of bed and pulled on a pair of pyjama shorts and a tank top. Before heading downstairs, she stopped by the bathroom. As she turned to dry her hands on a towel, something in the mirror caught her eye. Turning so her back was to the mirror, she looked over her shoulder and raised her eyebrows, a smirk playing on her lips. There were four very red lines peeking out from the racer back of her tank. Pulling her shirt up, Anna peered over her shoulder again to see that she had some very impressive scratch marks starting from the small of her back. Trying not to feel a little cocky at that, Anna pulled her shirt back down and
headed downstairs.

Music reached her ears halfway down, and Anna smiled as she walked into the kitchen. Lane sashayed around the room, radio up loud and two mugs of coffee on the bench. The mouth-watering smell of eggs and bacon hit her. Lane was wearing a pair of Anna’s shorts, deliciously tight on her, and her shirt from yesterday. Spatula in hand, Lane turned, grinning when she saw Anna standing in the doorframe. Lane danced up to her, hips moving in a way that Anna found incredibly sexy and stupidly adorable at the
same time.

In one smooth motion, Lane wrapped her arms around Anna’s waist and kissed her.
“Good morning.”

Reciprocating the embrace, Anna
grinned. “Morning.”

“I hope you don’t mind.” Lane nodded her head behind her to the stove. “I kind of
helped myself.”

“Oh, I hate it when hot women get up and make me breakfast and coffee after a night of fantastic sex.” Anna shook her head.
“Just terrible.”

With a swat on Anna’s bottom with the spatula, Lane danced away, turning down the radio slightly as she did so. “I do
spoil you.”

Not wasting any more time, Anna went for the coffee. “You really do. By the way, I think you should wear those shorts
every day.”

Lane looked over her shoulder wriggled her hips. Turning, Lane put the spatula down, walked up to Anna and pressed her back against the bench. With deliberate mischief in her eyes, Anna held the coffee up against Lane’s lips, tipping it back slightly to give her a sip. Lane swallowed and licked
her lips.

“I make
good coffee.”

“You really do. Another check on the
girlfriend list.”

Lane’s eyebrows shot up, and Anna’s own eyes widened as she realised what she’d said. They stared at each other
a second.

“Uh…girlfriend?”

Anna’s eyes were still
wide. “Um…”

“Stop looking like you’re about to throw up. It’s fine, slip of words,
or whatever.”

As Lane started to turn back to the food, Anna quickly grabbed her hand and yanked her back. “No, Lane. I don’t want to throw up.” She smiled a little. “Uh, that kind of just
came out.”

Lane just watched her
and waited.

“Everything is…complicated. My situation is complex. You know that already. I don’t know how to do this, with
the kids.”

Slowly, Lane nodded. Her dark eyes were soft as she
watched Anna.

“They’ve had so much change already, that me dating someone, having someone else who needs lots of my time, I don’t know if I want to do that to them.” Anna paused, eyes looking searchingly into Lane’s. “But I don’t want this to stop. You—well, I have so much fun with you. You make me feel, I don’t know…” Anna gave a little shrug. “You make everything make sense.” She grabbed a handful of Lane’s shirt, pulling her harder against her. “But we definitely are not just messing around. If you want, I’d like to say girlfriend.” Anna looked up at Lane from under her lashes,
almost shy.

A slow smile worked its way to Lane’s lips. “You like to give speeches a little,
don’t you?”

“That’s what you have to say
to that?”

“Well, my answer’s so obvious.” Lane kissed her, once. “Of course I want
to be.”

Anna reached up to cup Lane’s cheeks, pulling her in for another kiss. Her heart was pounding—the words had been so unplanned, this commitment not something she had thought she wanted. Forethought was normally a priority for Anna, yet, this time, it had felt right to just say what was on
her mind.

In one swift motion, Lane’s hands ran down Anna’s sides to her thighs and she tugged, lifting Anna up onto the bench. Anna wrapped her legs around Lane, crossing her ankles to lock
them together.

“Food?” Anna asked
between kisses.

“Fuck the food.” Lane practically growled, pushing her hand up under Anna’s tank top, automatically going to
her breast.

Anna arched her back, pulling at Lane’s shirt, lifting it up. Just as she was about to yank it over her head, groaning at the feel of Lane’s fingers on her nipple, a knock sounded from the
front door.

They both paused almost comically, staring at
each other.

“Expecting someone?”

Anna shook her head. “It’s probably Mum, needing something for Toby
or something.”

Heaving an overdramatic sigh, Lane tugged her shirt down and turned to the stove, switching it off. “Alright, you get the door, I’m going upstairs to the bathroom, then
we eat?”

Still sitting on the bench, Anna grinned. “Or we can resume on the kitchen bench,
then eat?”

Lane chuckled, looking over her shoulder on her way out the door, eying Anna
flirtatiously. “Deal.”

Tugging her shirt back in to place, Anna watched Lane leave the room. That woman really would be the death
of her.

As she made her way to the front door, Anna realised that she actually missed Ella and Toby, and it had been less than twenty-four hours since she’d seen them. If they were home, Ella would be loudly running for the door and Toby would be trying to scale Anna’s legs as she tried to get there
before Ella.

Cool air hit her as she pulled the door open. Before she could control her reaction, her mouth dropped open when she saw who was
standing there.

“Uh…”

Sally’s mother gave a short nod. She was a mousy woman of approximately Anna’s height. Her greying auburn hair was cut in a stylish bob. In her hands was a plastic bag, overly full. She looked Anna up and down, one eyebrow arched, and quirked her lips in what was probably
a smile.

“Anna. Hi.”

Anna swallowed. “Hi,
Mrs Larsen.”

“Call me
Cathy, Anna.”

“Right. Cathy. This is unexpected. Did you want to
come in?”

Cathy stayed put, looking behind Anna questioningly. “I thought I’d come to see my grandchildren. Ella would be at school, I know. But I thought I could say hi
to Toby.”

Anna was surprised. Where was the phone call beforehand? The warning? Sally’s parents saw the kids on important occasions, with the odd smattering of visits over the year, and that was all, as far as Anna
was aware.
