“When was Jaden due back?” She asked. She loved finally getting to know her mates, after all, the last few days had been a whirlwind. Cami wanted to know everything about Jaden and Quin. She would feel a little more secure in the relationship, if she did not feel like her husbands were strangers.

“Uh, let me see if Tey has heard anything.” Quin smiled indulgently and went to the door. Tey was standing guard since Cami was still in the apartment. She felt a tinge of guilt that he had been standing there while she had eaten. What kinda of leader was she, that she did not even care about the welfare of her guards? Disgusted with herself, she called to Quin to tell Tey to come in and have something to eat. She wanted to be known for her caring nature for members of the Pack, she wanted them to know they could come to her if they need to. She did not want to seem like a spoiled little human who was trying to take over.

Quin yelled back to her that Tey was going to come and eat with her because he had to go the office. Soon, she heard Tey rummaging in the kitchen, and then he came and sat in the living area with a plate full of food.

“Tey, sorry if forgot to call you in sooner, you must be starved.” She said to him sadly.

The big man grinned at her and then finished the bite he had in his mouth before saying,

“No worries. I am always this hungry. Quin and Devon used to say they needed a semi to go grocery shopping for me.”

“Well, regardless I want you to feel free to come and eat when you are hungry, or talk if you need to. I feel like there is so much to learn, and I really am at a disadvantage here.

Tell me about yourself.” Cami smiled at her guard and encouraged him to talk about himself.

For the next hour, they talked about his family still in France, and about his sisters and brothers. He explained why he had chosen to follow Quin to the United States, and how the Pack in France was one of the best there was.

She learned about some of the history of the Pack. Tey was very knowledgeable about Quin and Jaden. He explained he grew up with both men. His father was an Enforcer too. When Quin's father had announced that Quin was going to come to the United States and start a new Pack, Tey had jumped at the chance.

He explained the Council of Elders, and what they were trying to do here. By the time they were done with talking Cami felt like she had been given a crash course in the Werewolves do"s and don"ts.

For instance, she had not realized the mate to the Alpha was such a treasured role. She knew that being mated to the leader held some responsibilities, but she had had no clue that it was so important. Cami thought she was going to have to start thinking differently. She had been so worried about the bookstore, she had never thought about the rest of what she needed to do. Being the Alphas mate was going to be time consuming. She hoped she could do both.

Quin ran through the door and yelled for Tey to get Cami to safety. Cami screamed when she was grabbed, and carried by Tey into the guest bedroom. When they got in there, she was even more surprised when Tey opened the closet and then opened a secret door that was hidden in the back. She was thrust into a small room with a couch and monitor on one side, a small refrigerator on the other. Another door led to what looked like a small bathroom. Shelves lined the walls; they had food and clothing on them, and small appliances they would need if they had to spend any amount of time inside. It was like a bomb shelter, but in the middle of a high rise.

“Panic room,” Tey said briefly and sat down to look at the monitor.

Cami sat next to him and watched as the scene unfolded around them. It was like watching a movie where you were personally involved with all the characters. She was appalled when she saw Devon fighting in the corner with a strange looking man. She screamed when she saw Devon take a slash across his stomach. Blood gushed out of the wound.

She could not see where Quin or Jaden were, or even if they were in the same room. Tey reached forward and the camera changed, then she could see what she had been searching for, but she was not ready to see the men she loved battling for their lives.

Each of them was fighting men who were using their long claws to try and damage them.

She could see that Quin was yelling to Jaden, but could not hear what was being said. It was like a nightmare watching the monitor, but she could not look away.

“How did they get in here?” She whispered.

“I have no clue.” Tey muttered and watched as his friends fought. She could tell that he was itching to get in there but he had to protect her. “Watch the monitors, and if you see anything different, call me. I am going to see if we have another monitor we can hook up so we can see outside, we need to see if more are coming.” Tey stood and went into the storage room, then came back quickly with another monitor. He really had not needed to tell her to watch things, as if she could pull her eyes away from the screen. While he set up the other monitor, she sat in silence and watched. Cami was terrified if she looked away, one of her men would get hurt.

Tey had just gotten the monitor hooked up and sat back down so he could see what was going on in the building and out of the building. Cami refused to look away as her men battled a huge Rogue. They both had taken a few good hits, and had marks and bruises all over their faces. Devon had come into the same room and was still fighting the man he had been struggling with in the doorway.

Cami cringed, as Devon suddenly crushed the dining room table with a Rogue he tossed over his shoulder. Their living area was looking like a war zone. Tey growled and she glanced at the screen next to hers, there were more coming up the stairs.

“Cami, I have to warn Quin and Jaden there are more coming. The Pack needs to be notified so they can come and help.” Tey said, stood, and went to the door. He punched in a code and a phone appeared. Just like the bat cave, she thought, and suppressed the need to giggle. Cami turned back to the screen and waited while Tey called the Pack.

Then she heard him say something, and she turned in enough time to see him open the door a crack yell out the door quickly, before he closed it again. It had happened so fast she was not sure that she had seen it.

“Done.” Tey said and sat back down in the chair. Cami watched as Jaden and Quin finished off the Rogue they had been fighting, and then turned to help Devon.

“Well that was fun.” Tey grumbled and watched, as the lobby of the building was flooded with Pack members. The Rogues quickly disappeared. The Enforcers took the ones who remained away. Cami shuddered to think what was going to happen to them.

After a while Jaden and Quin, who rushed in and hugged her, opened the door to the panic room.

“Holy shit, that scared the crap out of me. One second, we were talking about what we were making for dinner and the next; we were fighting those assholes that dropped down from the ceiling. I think they know the Alpha has found his mates, and they are looking for leverage. They were surprised we were in the elevator. I think they were going to try and capture Cami and use her.” Jaden said and hugged her tighter.

Quin nodded and looked at Tey. “We need to find out who they are getting their information from. Somehow, they are aware of how to find the Alphas mate. She is not going to be safe until we do. Until then, the guard duties will be doubled. I know you have been working long enough hours as it is, but we need round the clock protection for Cami.”

“Of course, the prisoners have been taken to the basement. They will be prepared for interrogation when they wake up.” Tey said and pointed to the screen where his men were carrying the Rogue to the basement.

Quin nodded and pulled Cami and Jaden from the room, and then pushed them into their bedroom. It was the only room that did not need repaired after the attack.

Chapter 7

Cami sank into the chair in the corner that she had taken comfort in so many times over the last week. Why would someone want to hurt Quin so much? I mean, I realize that he is the Alpha of the city and some may not like it, but to try and capture her? What are they trying to accomplish? Cami had seen his temper, and she knew if something were to happen to Jaden or herself, Quin would stop at nothing for vengeance. Therefore, what was really going on? It seemed a little too personal to be something to do with the Pack. There were plenty of other places that someone could go and have their own Pack.

The wolves in the United States had just begun being organized. Quin had said himself there were a lot more wolves in Europe. So, why here? It did not make sense unless there was something they were all missing.

“Quin, you said that you have never been able to find out who leads these Rogues. What if that were the point?” She said and leaned back.

“What do you mean?” Quin asked.

“Well, from everything that I have been told, if the Rogue leader wanted to challenge you for the Pack, he would only have to call a challenge and then you would have to defend yourself. It seems a little strange that whoever is behind this is going to so much trouble to try and take you out of the picture.” Cami said calmly.

Jaden frowned and thought for a few minutes before speaking up. “Wait a minute.

What if the person behind the attacks does not want to be a leader? They only want to hurt Quin. This really does not make sense.”

“I know that is what I have been saying all along. If I could figure out why he wanted to hurt the Pack, then I would be able to solve the problem. As of yet we have no clue what this person wants, and now we know he had knowledge of the security. We are all going to have to be looking out for each other.” Quin said and paced across the floor.

Cami watched as her men both thought in silence. She watched them prowl the room in frustration, and knew she needed to do something, even something small to get their minds off this for a few minutes, or it would consume them.

She stood and began to take her clothes off. It only took a few moments before both of the men noticed what she was doing, stopped, and watched her. She stripped slowly and grinned over her shoulder when she bent down and showed them her backside.

Quin growled and said, “Cami, what are you doing?”

“Well, I have not had a shower in two days, and I smell. If we have to get busy and find out what the hell is going on, I would prefer to not smell myself while doing it.” She replied and walked toward the bathroom.
