To make the compartments for your checkbook and calculator, using your ruler and chalk pencil, measure 8″ over from the raw edge on the left side across the top of the last folded edge and make a mark. Move your ruler down along the bottom raw edge and measure 8″ over again and make a mark. Line up the 2 marks and draw a guideline from the folded edge to the bottom raw edge of the lining panel. Topstitch down the length of the guideline, backstitching at each end.

Then, measure 3″ down on the topstitching you just made and make a mark. Then, on the raw edge on the left side, starting at the top finished edge of the last pocket, measure 3″ down and make another mark. Draw a guideline connecting the 2 marks from the raw edge on the left side to the topstitching, and topstitch along the guideline, backstitching at each end.
