Another soft whimper left her. It sounded like she was biting down on her lip to keep quiet. Her voice strained when she spoke again. She asked, “Are you stroking your cock now? Knowing I'm so fucking desperate for you? I'm so wet, Magnus. You're making me so fucking wet. Don't stop talking.”

“Did you do what I told you to do? Are you rubbing your fingers against that beautiful cunt through your panties? Are they soaked?”

“Yes. Please let me rub my clit. It aches. I ache for you.”

“Slide your panties to the side and fuck yourself with one finger. Don't touch your clit until I give you permission, baby.”

“Just one,” she asked, her voice almost a frantic whisper. “I need more. Fuck. I need your  cock inside me.”

Magnus felt his dick jerk in response to her harsh whisper. Giving in to temptation, he pushed his boxer briefs down. He wrapped his hand around his cock and pumped it steadily. “Christ, love. My cock is leaking on my stomach. I'm throbbing.”

She let out a shuddering breath and begged, “I need more. Give me more!”

“Use as many fingers as you like. I want you to fuck yourself hard but you're not to touch your clit. Not yet,” he ground out.

Her breathy gasp carried through the line as she complied. “Oh,” she sighed in relief.

He didn't want her too relaxed, though. Not when he was so close to the edge. “Fuck, Caroline,” he groaned. “Use your free hand and keep playing with your nipple. Pinch it for me, love. Don't be gentle with them. I know you like it when I'm rough.”

She gave another sharp intake of breath, followed by a shuddering exhale.

“Fuck,” he cursed. “Use your thumb and rub your clit for me.”  Tightening his grip, he stroked himself even more quickly.

Caroline panted, her harsh breathing filling his bedroom. “Can I cum?” she asked, desperation filling her voice.

“Yes. Cum for me, love,” he ordered, feeling his balls draw up against his body with his impending release.

When he heard her sharp intakes of breath, followed by her soft moan, he erupted, ropes of hot cum shooting up and onto his stomach. “Fuck,” he all but roared at his release tore through him.

Seconds later there was a loud clunk. “Love? Are you there? Are you alright? Did you pass out again? Caroline?”

There was a slight scuffling noise before she sheepishly said, “Shit. Sorry. I dropped the phone on the floor.”

“Oh Christ. I thought you passed out again.”

“Nope, but I did spaz out for a second and knock my phone off the bed,” she admitted, laughing. “Hang on. Let me clean up.”

Magnus heard the unmistakable sucking noises and said, “Oh god. Did you just lick your fingers clean, love?”

Her soft chuckle sounded through the speaker. “I did.”

“Aaaaand, now I've got an erection again,” he informed her, watching his cock jerk to attention. He grabbed several tissues from the box next to the bed and mopped at the mess on his stomach.

“Oops,” she said, clearly enjoying his predicament.

He teased, “Don't be too proud of yourself. I've got plenty of hours of dark left. I believe I'll be hopping into a very cold shower, then going get dressed. I'm going to go buy those nipple clamps we discussed the other night. You know. The ones with the chain connecting them. You won't be laughing when you're tied to the bed, nipples clamped and begging me for my cock, love.”

“You're an evil man,” she whined.

“You're the one who left that dirty book here,” he reminded her. “I thought it was a not-so-subtle hint.”

She laughed again. “I did actually forget it. I didn't expect you to read it.”

“There was a woman with handcuffs and a blindfold on the cover. I couldn't help myself,” he admitted sheepishly.

“Fair enough,” she said, yawning. “I can't really blame you.”

His own post orgasmic buzz wearing off, he yawned in response then asked, her, “Tired?”

“Starting to get that way,” she admitted. “I'm going to let you go. I've gotta get up early so I can drive my grandmother back to Orillia. It's gonna be a long day.”

“Feel free to call Easy Mac and I'll take care of you,” he said.

“I definitely will,” she assured him. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” he answered. “Good night.”

“Night.”

With that, he disconnected the call and grinned. He realized as he hauled himself out of bed that it had been a long time since anyone said those particular words to him. He didn't exactly dwell on it, but not hearing it in over sixty years could really make a man wonder. For the first time in longer than he could recall, he was content.
Chapter Twelve

Caroline stepped out of the bedroom and walked down the hallway. She followed the sound of cursing until she found Magnus standing at the mirror by the front door as he adjusted his tie. “Problem?” she asked.

“Yes. This bloody tie won't...” he grumbled, turning his head slightly to acknowledge her. When he spotted her, he broke off, turning around to take her in. “You look amazing, love.”

“Thank you. You look pretty handsome, yourself. Except... Here. Let me mess with the tie,” she said, stepping forward.

He settled his hands on her waist and asked, “Can we just skip the party? We can stay here. I can peel this lovely dress off of you. I wager you're wearing something equally enticing underneath. Why don't you tell me about it while you're fixing my tie?”

“We've gotta leave pretty soon. Are you sure?”

“Tell me,” he ordered, his eyes darkening.

“Black opera lace garter belt, matching panties, and no bra,” she said, giving his tie one last tug before she stepped back.

“No bra?”

Oh, Caroline realized. He hadn't seen the back of the dress yet. She'd gone shopping the other morning and found a fantastic sheath dress. It was a dark purple with shiny black threads shot through the fabric. The cut was conservative in the front, ending at her collarbones. The back was another story entirely. Laced  together with strands of crystal, it was nearly backless. Rather than explain all of that, she merely turned around to show him.

“You in that dress is doing things to me. We need to leave now or I'm going to drag you into the bedroom.”

“Feel free to follow through on that threat. Later,” Caroline said. “I just need to get my shoes and we can leave.”

Magnus gave her an unrepentant grin. “Don't take too long, now. My self-control is already taxed whenever you're near.”

Caroline smiled as she walked back down the hallway into the bedroom. When she didn't see her overnight bag, she called out. “Where did my overnight bag go?”

“Closet,” he answered, his voice carrying down the hallway. “I cleared a bit of space out for you so you don't have to lug things back and forth!”

She opened the closet and raised an eyebrow. It looked like roughly half the space in the closet was clear. She wondered if this was a subtle hint.

Reaching for her bag, Caroline unzipped it and pulled out the shoes. Placing it back on the shelf, she turned around to find Magnus standing in the doorway. “A bit of space?” she asked.

“I was hoping you might consider moving in with me,” he admitted, hovering apprehensively in the doorway. “With you being here almost every night, I thought maybe...”

“You thought maybe I'd want to stay permanently?” she asked, the shoes slipping from her fingers.

He nodded.

Just looking at his hopeful gaze moved something inside her. God, but she loved this man. She felt her eyes water and desperately needed to put herself back on a more even keel. So, she studied him for a moment, as deadpan as she could manage under the circumstances and asked, “Would your spa privileges extend to me, do you think?”

Magnus snorted, clearly on to her game. She could already see the pleasure and triumph warring with some other unnamed emotion on his face. “Is that what's important here? Spa privileges?”

“Uh. There's a lot to be said for deep tissue massages, Magnus. I have to consider all of the facts!” she teased.

Magnus stepped away from the door and around her, a smirk on his face. He said, “Sorry. If you'll excuse me, I just need to move these clothes back over here.”

She watched as he started to scoot hangers back across the rail into the empty. “Fine, fine. No spa privileges needed. When my lease is up at the end of December, I'll move in.”

“For the record, I think you do get spa privileges. I'll look over the contract to confirm it includes everyone in the unit, though,” he said, love written all over his face.

“Who needs to wait until December, then?” she asked, closing the remaining space between them and wrapping her arms around his waist. “All kidding aside. Yes. I'd love to move in. I never sleep as well at my place as I do with you.”

His expression was soft when he said, “I hate the nights when you're gone. And I feel guilty about the fact that you have to travel back and forth so much.”

“I don't hold it against you,” she promised, resting her head against his chest. “I don't live in a Transfigured friendly complex. It was never really an issue for me before. I know you'd use the car service if you could, Magnus.”

“In a heartbeat. And I know you don't hold it against me. I worry, though, that one day all of the small compromises you have to make will be too much. That it's too much of a burden, or you'll just decide I'm not worth it,” he admitted, settling his chin.

He carried so many scars from his childhood that she didn't even think he realized when they came into view. Squeezing him, she explained, “It's not much of a burden living in my sexy boyfriend's fancy apartment that happens to be in the same building where I work, Magnus. You're a beautiful person, both inside and out. Anyone who doesn't see it is either blind or not paying attention.”

Magnus held on to her tightly until his phone alarm went off a moment later. “My timing is absolute rubbish. I need to head downstairs and check on the kitchen. Come with me?”

Reluctantly, she released him and said, “I suppose. I should check on the bar too. Make sure everything is under control.”

Magnus frowned at her neck and said, “Your bite mark. Perhaps I should pick a less obvious spot in the future. The necklace isn't covering it very well.”

“I wore the necklace because it went with the dress, not because I wanted to hide the bite mark. I'm not ashamed of it, and it's no one else's business, really,” she answered, sliding on her heels.

“You're fearless and I love you for it,” he said, as they made their way toward the front door.

Once they both made it downstairs, she lost track of Magnus until about the time that the guests began to arrive. When she was able to break away from the bar, she found him chatting with a woman in chef's whites who was obviously Transfigured as well. Part of her wondered if this was the one that he'd dated for a brief time. He'd mentioned someone from the kitchen staff when they'd talked about their dating histories.

She couldn't help but notice how striking they were together. She hated that, even when she knew she looked her best, her damned insecurities still cropped up. It was irrational. Silly, even. Magnus asked her to move in with him, for god’s sake.

As if on cue, Magnus looked up. “Caroline, love. I went looking for you but then I got waylaid. This is my friend and sous chef, Veronica. I don't know if you've met.”

Caroline smiled and said, “I don't think so. Nice to meet you.”

Veronica grinned and said, “So you're the reason Magnus has been in a good mood lately.”

Caroline flushed. “Thanks, I think.”

“I meant that in the best way possible! I promise. I've worked with him for years and I've never seen him happier,” Veronica explained. “He was turning into a grumpy old man.”

Magnus rolled his eyes and asked, “Don't you have kitchen things to do?”

Smiling coyly, Veronica seemed to consider before she said, “Nope. Under control. Caroline? Would you like to hear some embarrassing stories about Magnus? I've got plenty.”

“Oh, really,” Caroline asked. “Do tell—”

“Nope. Not doing this tonight!” He turned to face Veronica, mildly alarmed. He accused, “I thought you could be trusted!”

Veronica laughed and added, “It was nice to meet you. I'd love to chat sometime when I'm not picking up his slack.”  She gave a quick tilt of her head toward Magnus.

“She used to be shy when I first met her. Quiet even,” Magnus said conversationally. “I don't know what happened.”

Veronica discreetly gave him the finger and then gave them both a cheerful wave as she walked back toward the kitchen.”

“You ruined my fun. I'll have to get lunch with her at some point soon.” Caroline studied him and asked, “Would she have perhaps been that someone from the kitchen you briefly dated?”

“Yes,” he admitted. “All it took was one date for me to realize we were better suited as friends. She was way too nice back then. A little fragile. I don't know what bloody happened to that.”

“Too nice? Fragile? As opposed to me. So mean and terrible,” she asked, particularly enjoying the way that Magnus seemed to be squirming.

“Now, love. You know that's not what I meant at all.”

“I know exactly what you meant,” she said, tugging on his tie. “It was just enjoyable watching you squirm.”

“That's not very nice,” he admonished, his eyes shining with humor.

It was one of the things that she liked most about Magnus. He seemed to have no issue laughing at himself. Even with his sometimes oversized ego.

“In fact,” he continued. “That's actually quite wicked of you.”

              “Isn't it?” she asked, grinning.

Magnus traced a fingertip down the side of her throat, clearly not giving a damn about the party or anyone who might be watching. “You know what happens to wicked girls, don't you?” he asked, his tone almost conversational.

“I'd be very interested to know. You should probably tell me,” she said, biting her lip. She leaned in and whispered, “In fact, be very specific.”

His gaze heated, he leaned in and nipped at her earlobe. Releasing her, he murmured, “I don't want to spoil the surprise but—”

“Caroline,” a sharp voice rang out.

A chill ran up her spine as she took a small step back from Magnus. “Shit. That's my mother. Kill me now, please.”

“You invited her?”

“Not on purpose,” she promised.

Magnus murmured, “Deep breath, love. Here they come.”

“Mom, Dad. I'm surprised you came,” Caroline said, turning just as her parents reached her.

Magnus tried to back up to a more respectable distance but she held him fast. Her parents were probably freaking out already. Why not let it all hang out at this point?

“I'll admit, after the way you walked out of your grandmother's party, I was surprised by the invitation. I assumed it was an apology of sorts,” her mother said, face pinched in displeasure. “Who's your... friend?”

Ignoring the apology comment entirely, she said, “Magnus, this is my mother, Joan. My father, Tim. This is Magnus, my boyfriend.”

Magnus disentangled himself from her and extended his hand. Both of her parents eyed it for a moment until her father extended his. “Pleasure to meet you, Magnus.”

Naturally her mother snubbed it entirely.

In such a public setting, Caroline was hoping they'd feel obligated to be polite. If her mother's initial reaction was any indicator, this was going to go downhill fast. She dove on the grenade, so to speak, and engaged her mother in conversation.

“So how are you doing?” Caroline asked. “Have you had a chance to try the food, or get a drink yet?”

“We've just walked in the door. Is there something low-fat you can recommend?”

“Magnus,” she asked with a mental eye roll, turning to him. “Which of the menu is the lowest calorie, do you think? My mother wants to know.”

“The venison or the salmon, love. It's probably a toss-up. Both sauces are sweetened,” he answered before turning back to her father.

“What is that on your neck, Caroline?” her mother hissed quietly.

“A bite mark,” she answered, not bothering to lower her voice.

Her mother looked aghast. “How could you let him... that's disgusting!”

“Mom. Just because you're whispering doesn't mean he can't hear you. Please don't be rude,” she informed her through a completely pasted on smile.

As if to solidify her point, Magnus reached over and gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze. She could tell he was trying to say that it didn't matter. It did, though.

Changing tacks, her mother said, “So, that's an interesting dress.”

She knew her mother hadn't been saying it in a complimentary way, but who cared at this point? She had the distinct impression this encounter was about to go down in flames. “Thank you. When I went shopping, this just jumped out at me,” she admitted, hoping her mother would be somewhat mollified by the fact she was wearing a dark color. “I loved the crystals on the back.”

“You don't exactly have the body for it. Maybe with some sort of shape wear but clearly you didn't wear any. Did you look at that link I emailed you last week? The diet?”

Less than five minutes and she was starting in already. Caroline let out a sigh. The arena didn't matter, nor did the company. Her mother, as always, seemed to be on some sort of mission to embarrass her.
