. These projects use basic stitches, repetitive stitch patterns, simple color changes and simple shaping and finishing.
I’ve designed several hats over the years, and I have to admit, they’re all my favorites. I like instant gratification when I crochet, therefore I design my patterns with quick turnaround in mind.
Nothing makes me sadder than wanting to make a pattern only to find out it’s available in just one or two sizes, so my patterns include all sizes, from newborn to adult. I get so much pleasure crocheting my designs for customers, whether it’s for a newborn photo shoot, family photos or everyday wear.
There are many ways to make these hats unique. Take the classic beanie. You can add a Newsboy Brim for fun, a Sunhat Brim for summer or Earflaps for the cooler months. Who wouldn’t love to create her own hat to match any piece of clothing in her wardrobe? Just choose the hat design and then move on to

to pick a flower or motif. They interchange on the hat by simply fastening them onto the button!
Experiment using worsted weight yarn and a smaller hook to make the designs that call for sport weight yarn. This will make them thicker and warmer. You can also use two strands of sport weight yarn and a smaller hook to make the Comfy Cloche. These are just a few ways to make the designs your very own.
Okay, I take it back. I do have a favorite hat. It’s this one. This hat is where my foray into creating interchangeable designs started. What I love about this design is that you can make it as simple or as complex as you like. Want to use a funky fiber? Do it! Have a fun, old button that needs a home? Use it!
