Addy couldn’t take her eyes off of him. “You’re so beautiful,” she murmured.

His laugh sounded pained. “That’s supposed to be my line, darlin’.”

But she shook her head as she pushed him onto his back and straddled his thighs. She ran her hands over his body like a blind woman, the sensitive tips of her fingers exploring every inch of him. When she got to the waistband of his shorts, he lifted her off of him, reversing their positions.

“My turn, darlin’.”

“Let me see you, first,” she said, staying his hands.

He hesitated, then lifted himself far enough to push his shorts down and away. Her eyes widened when she saw him, and she started to tremble.

“I know how this is supposed to work,” she whispered. “I mean, I do live on a farm, but…”

“We’ll do this a little different,” he told her with a chuckle, nudging her legs apart.

She opened for him, and when he reached down to touch her intimately, she gasped when she felt a gush of wetness between her thighs.

“Mark!”

“It’s okay, Addy. It’s just your body tellin’ me you’re ready for me.”

When her eyes met his in confusion, he smiled. “Trust me, darlin’.”

“Okay,” she whispered, suddenly certain that she could and did.

She felt that huge part of him at her opening and sucked in her breath as she felt him come into her, slowly at first, then suddenly filling her completely. There might have been pain, but it was gone in another moment as he began to rock inside her in an age-old rhythm. When his lips and hands found her breasts, she cried out again. But just as she thought she could stand no more, her whole body tightened, and this time his voice joined hers as their world shattered.

Addy lay curled against Mark, listening to his heartbeat slow to match hers. She had never imagined anything like what they had just shared together.

“Are you all right, darlin’?” he asked after a time.

She smiled to hear the concern in his voice. “I’m fine. Actually, I may be a whole lot better than fine.”

She heard the deep rumble in his chest and remembered him as a bear and the pleasure of wrestling with him in the meadow.

“I need to tell you something,” she whispered.

“What?”

“I almost Shifted tonight,” she confessed. “When I panicked, just before we…”

She broke off. It was one thing to do what they had and quite another to talk about it.

“But you didn’t,” he finally said. “You stayed as yourself. You didn’t Shift, when I scared you.”

She pushed herself up and looked him in the eye. “You didn’t exactly scare me!”

When he only raised his eyebrows in that way of his, she blushed.

“Well, all right, you did—for just a minute, though.”

He reached up to push her loose hair behind her ear, letting his fingers trail down past her ear, along her neck and to her throat.

“I’ll never be able to tell you how sorry I am that I did.”

She reached out to close his lips with her finger tips.

“It doesn’t matter, now, Mark. Really it doesn’t. I didn’t know what I was gettin’ into. Well, not exactly, anyway. But you made it good for me. You made it right. And I love you for it.

He smiled. “Do you?”

She nodded. “Yes. I guess I love you for a lot of reasons, but that one for sure.”

“I’m glad.”

Mark reached up to take her face between his big hands and pulled her down to kiss her. She felt herself start to tingle again, and it had nothing to do with Shifting. When he pulled one of her legs across his body, she sat up to straddle his thighs. This time he allowed her to trace her fingers down his torso, and when she reached the part of him that once more ached for her, he took her hips between his strong hands and lifting her, fitted her onto him.

Addy sucked in a deep breath at the sensation. It was different like this. Bigger. Fuller. And she didn’t know quite what to do. Then he used his hands to first lift her then slowly let her down once more.

“Ride me, darlin’,” he said, and his golden eyes burned for her.

She did as he directed, grasping his hips with her thighs and bracing her hands on his shoulders as she moved up and down on him, guided by his big hands. After a time, he released her hips only to reach for her breasts. The aching pain/pleasure from his hard grasp shot straight to her groin, and she arched back, screaming her release. He followed her over the edge with a roar as he emptied himself into her once more.

Much later, she stirred as she felt him pull the blanket up over her shoulders against the cool night air.

“Mark?”

“Go back to sleep, Addy.”

“Okay.”

“Addy?”

“Hmm.”

“Before you do, there’s something I should tell you.”

“Hmm?”

“I love you, too.”

Her breath caught, and she suddenly felt warm all over.

“I’m glad,” she whispered, dropping a light kiss on his furry chest.

“So, from what you saw of them, do you think my family will be up for another weddin’ so soon?”

“I hope so,” she said, snuggling in. “I don’t want to wait as long as Mel and Matt did, okay?”

Addy felt his smile when he kissed her brow and allowed herself to believe in miracles.

Bearly Together

Big Paw Security Book VI

“I can't believe I'm finally doing this, Cheryl.

I'm so nervous.”

“Beth, calm down.

You love this man, right?

He's the one you want to spend the rest of your life with, right?

Then you have nothing to worry about.”

“I know, I know.

It's just so much to take in right now.”

Cheryl stood next to her best friend, helping her out of her wedding dress.

Months ago, Cheryl would never have imagined how Beth's life would play out.

Beth, at Cheryl's urging, had went on the run from a powerful gangster their law firm was hoping to put behind bars.

Cheryl and their boss, Jeff Kastner, had hired a shifter from a security firm to protect Beth.

After a couple of dangerous days, Beth was safe and the rest was history.

Cheryl stood back as Beth slipped out of the dress.

Beth's smile lit up the room and it was impossible for Cheryl to not smile, as well.

She was happy for her friend, beyond elated, but she also felt...a longing?

Cheryl couldn't exactly name the feeling that lingered at the back of her mind.

Cheryl had been friends with Beth since they were little kids.

Inseparable throughout school, they decide to both become lawyers together.

Beth had been accepted to the best law school in the country, moving halfway across the country to attend.

Cheryl had been accepted to the second best, which happened to be no more than an hour's drive from their hometown.

While Beth was traveling across the country, Cheryl had found herself living at home to save money.

By some chance of fate, both had gotten jobs at the same law firm, but Beth was always getting the better, more high profile cases.

It wasn't that Beth was a better lawyer – in fact, Beth had often told Cheryl she was the best lawyer she'd ever met.

And now, Cheryl was getting ready for Beth's wedding rehearsal, overshadowed again.

“You're going to meet someone real soon,” Beth said, bringing Cheryl out of her haze.

She tried to give Beth her best smile, but it was halfhearted.

“I know it always seems like things swing my way and that you get left out, but things are going to change, Cheryl.

I can't have all of the good luck forever.”

Beth came over to her and wrapped her arms around her, bringing her close.

“I don't think that at all!”

“We've been friends since before we could walk, Cheryl.

I can read you like a book,” Beth said, and Cheryl knew she was right.

Beth sat down on a small bench, motioning for Cheryl to sit next to her.

“Sometimes I think that I've used up all of my good luck.

I've had a great career, I've met a wonderful guy, and I have the best friend any woman could ask for.

Now, it's your turn.”

“Sorry, Beth.

I never meant to sound petty.

I'm happy for you, I really am.

You've worked hard for every good thing that's ever happened to you.

I'm just ready for my life to really start.”

She didn't know if she was ready to have to tangle with gangsters and shifters to find a man and settle down, but if necessary, she would.

A pay raise couldn't hurt, either.

But she didn't want her negative emotions to cloud the wedding, so she pushed the thoughts to the back of her mind and really smiled.

“Well, there's plenty of great guys coming to the wedding.

I know that Clive's brother has been asking about you after he saw you a few days ago.

After all, he's the best man and you're the maid of honor.

Things can't get more perfect than that!”

Cheryl thought about Clive's brother, Derrick.

They hadn't met, despite the wedding being tomorrow.

Cheryl had caught a glance of Derrick a couple of days ago when he had shown up to talk to Clive about
something
, something probably Clan related.

Beth had rushed to introduce them, but by the time Beth had dragged Cheryl over to Clive, his brother was gone.

Derrick had given her a smile on his way out the door, but other than that, they hadn't met.

Cheryl didn't know what to think about Derrick and the other shifters.

They were all drop dead handsome.

The women they were dating were all great.

Out of the wedding party, Derrick was the only one not tied down.

Cheryl thought she wanted him, but was she sure?

She had nothing against shifters, but some of the whispers she'd picked up on over the past few days indicated there was some kind of problem with a rival Clan.

Did Cheryl want to get involved?

Thinking of Derrick and his toned body, she thought she could deal with it.

“He'd better hurry up and get here, then!

We're supposed to do the final rehearsal of your wedding and he hasn't shown up to a single one yet.

I don't want to be walking down the aisle in front of everyone with some guy who has no idea what he's doing, no matter how good he looks.”

“Clive says he's been busy with Clan business,” Beth said, lowering her voice.

“You know how that stuff goes.”

Cheryl found herself nodding, though in truth she really didn't.

In a way, she felt left out, again.

Beth had filled her in on all sorts of stuff, but Cheryl had to admit to herself that she didn't really understand half of what Beth said.

Clan Leaders, Elders, shifting…

The words made sense, but Cheryl hadn't experienced any of it herself.

Maybe one day… she pondered.

There was a knock at the door.

Beth yelled to come in, and the door cracked open.

Clive peaked his head into the doorway.

“Hey, babe.

It's about time that we started the rehearsal.

You guys about ready?”

Cheryl looked down at her clothes, realizing that she'd spent all of her time at the church talking to Beth and admiring her dress.

“I still have to get changed, but I'll be right out!” she promised.

Beth gave her another hug and followed Clive out of the door.

Cheryl sat in the silence for a few moments, thinking about what Beth had told her.

She wasn't jealous or spiteful of Beth by any means.

But she was ready for things to turn around for herself.

She was certainly successful, but she'd always struck out when trying to find a new guy.

Maybe tomorrow would change all of that.

Satisfied and more than happy for her friend, she decided it was time to change and get ready to do one more run through of the wedding for tomorrow.

She peeled off her clothes, then pulled on her maid of honor dress.

Smoothing her hands over it, she felt her bra and panties through the fabric.

Spinning in the mirror, she saw that they were extremely noticeable.

Cheryl quickly took the dress back off and then stripped down until she was completely naked.

She was getting ready to pull the dress back on when behind her she heard, “Oh, shit, sorry!”

Cheryl screamed, turning around, seeing Derrick standing in the doorway.

He had one hand on the door, the other moving up to cover his eyes, but it was too late:

he'd seen it all.

Cheryl grabbed the dress, covering up her naked body, hoping it was enough.
