Gratefully, he squeezed one of Codley’s tentacles with his fin.

“Th-thank you, Codley!"

"Pokie, you are lucky to have such a brave buddy," Marvon said.

Marvon taught Codley and Pokie how to avoid being swept away again. They held on to the wall of the cave when the big current came through. Then Marvon led them on a tour of the rest of the cave.

The hours went quickly by. When it was time for Codley and Pokie to leave, they thanked Marvon and promised to return for another visit.

"Wh-what a wonderful adventure!" Pokie said.

"Were you scared when the current swept you away?" Codley asked.

"I-I was scared, but I knew you would rescue me! You’re a hero!"

Codley’s tentacles glowed. "No, you would have done the same for me," he replied. “Friends watch out for each other.”

Pokie grabbed hold of one of Codley’s tentacles and the two friends swam happily home through the deep, blue sea.
