and cherish you, according to the commandments of God, in the holy bond of marriage."
Up Close and Personal
Here's a very 90s story of Eric Wood and Kimberly Gray who met at a country western dance bar by the name of Cactus Jack's. She is a clerk at a coffee bar at Gelson's Markets in Newport Beach, California, and Eric works as a senior dock worker for Viking Freight Systems. He hopes to transfer to their communications department after he graduates from ITT Tech in May of 1996. The night they met at Cactus Jack's, Kimberly bravely invited him to go to the movies with her and some friends; the sparks flew and as Kimberly says, their relationship "just fell into place" and within two weeks they "knew it was forever" and they are now engaged to be married.
Their wedding will have a country western theme with the men wearing jet black jeans, black boots, cowboy hats and country cut vests with prairie ties. Kimberly's wedding gown is being created by her grandmother from a pattern they found in the Harper House Past Patterns catalog; she's going to wear white boots, a floral tiara and her hair in a Gibson Girl bun. The judge who will marry them has agreed to wear traditional parson's attire.
Eric and Kimmie, as she is called, have written their own vows for their wedding and have graciously agreed to share them with us; the vows will be integrated with a Unity Candle ceremony.

Eric (to Kimberly) and Kimberly (to Eric): "I, Kimberly Joy / Eric Kevin, take you, Eric Kevin / Kimberly Joy, to be my lawfully wedded husband / wife. I promise before our families, friends, and the Lord, to care for you in sickness and in sadness and I promise to laugh with you and rejoice with you in gladness. I promise to inspire greatness in you and to listen and give to you from my heart and soul. I make this vow in love, keep it in faith, live it in hope, and share it in honesty, as long as our souls shall live."
(These vows will be followed by the Unity Candle Ceremony which consists of the lighting of a central candle from two separate candles held by the bride and groom to symbolize the uniting of two lives into one. Their wedding vows will be inscribed on the large unity candle. In the years to come, on each wedding anniversary, they will reaffirm these vows as they again light the candle in celebration.)
Kim and Eric have also composed beautifully worded ring vows; look for them in Chapter 8.
Groom: "I love you ________________, and I promise to be a loving and caring husband. I promise to always cherish your presence and place our marriage above all else."
Bride: "I love you __________________, and I promise to always be there for you. I promise to receive your love with love and to work hard at keeping our marriage true and everlasting."
