A form of decoration applied especially to pottery where two parallel rows of triangles are excised or impressed into the wall of the vessel so that the space between them gives the visual impression of being raised even though actually it is the same height as the rest of the vessel's surface.
fancy barrow

A general term used to describe a range of early Bronze Age round barrows in the British Isles that depart in their shape and form from the traditional common styles of
BOWL BARROW
and
BELL BARROW
. Fancy barrows usually comprise between one and five round mounds set within a ditched enclosure that often has a small outer bank and a larger inner bank flanking the ditch. The mounds are generally small, so-called saucer and disc forms, and there is a large berm between the mound and its surrounding ditch. Fancy barrows are typical of the early 2nd millennium
bc
and many in southern England are associated with the
WESSEX CULTURE
. In upland areas where ditches are more difficult to dig the area defined by the enclosure is instead defined by a low platform with the barrow mound set on the top of the platform.

Late Copper Age and early Bronze Age communities of the 2nd millennium

in the upper Volga region of Russia, named after a cemetery site excavated near Yaroslavl, Moscow Region. The extent of the culture covers the former
VOLGA–OKA CULTURE AREA
, but a northern variant known as the Yaroslav–Kalinin group and a southern variant known as the Moscow group have been recognized. Burials were in fairly deep-cut flat graves as single individuals, the main grave goods including globular jars, stone battle-axes with distinctive drooping blades, copper trinkets, and sometimes clay models of wheels. Part of the

tradition.
