Procopius

Greek historian born around ad 500 who served with Belisarius in Persia, Africa, and Italy in the period ad 527–40. Prefect of Constantinople in 562. His
History of the Wars of Justinian
(completed before
c.
ad 551) contains much of what is known of the period and preserves many details of events outside its main theme. A parallel work,
The Secret History
, retraces the same ground, but as a continuous and violent attack on Justinian's policies. Procopius died in the mid 560s.

A Roman civil administrator with responsibilities ranging from estate management to the governorship of minor provinces.
profane

That which belongs to the mundane or everyday world, as opposed to the religious world.
professional archaeologist

An individual who earns their living through working in the field of archaeology.
projectile point
[Ar].
Stone, bone, or metal point made to strengthen the tip of a spear or arrow. Usually made of a material different from that of the shaft.
project management
[Ge].
A project can be seen as a initiative or activity characterized by having a clearly defined aim which is linked to a set of objectives and fixed timescales, and is executed by a team of people. Project management is a collection of loosely connected techniques which are used to plan, implement, run, and bring projects to a successful conclusion.
promontory fort
[MC].
A fortified enclosure constructed on a raised block of land that forms a promontory of some kind projecting out from a hillside or cliff line. The main defences cut off the neck of the promontory, the remainder of the perimeter having natural defensive capabilities.
