“What’s next?”

-
Michelle we need to awaken Chris and
Sandy. Then, we need to contact our superiors. We need backup.
Badly. -

“Huh? Destiny? Oh, okay,” Michelle says aloud
before turning to look up at Brandon. “Sorry, Brandon, Destiny was
giving me some instructions. I have something I need to do right
quick. Well, help Destiny with.”

“Oh, okay.”

Michelle crossed her little legs and, then,
closed her eyes to concentrate, but not too hard, as to fry their
brains. She boosts the power of my psychic link with the two.

-
SANDY! CHRIS! GET UP AND COME TO ME!
NOW!

It comes across to them two of them that I am
shouting in their brains. Hopefully, they respond rather quickly.
And to my amazement, they actually do.

Being that I am in the same room as Sandy,
makes it easier for her to get to me faster than my hubby. Sandy
lifts her head and immediately sees me lying on the ground. My
nightie is torn, the whole right side of my face is swollen, the
side of my jaw which slammed into the hotel wall.

I am moaning as blood streaks out, in small
trickles, of my mouth and right ear onto the carpet and my nightie.
There are bruises and scratches all over my body. There is dried
blood on my feet as well. Not my blood, thank God.

Within a matter of moments, Sandy is by my
side.

“Des, what happened?”

I look at Sandy and motion for her to put her
hand on the swollen part of my face. I know that it’s going to
hurt. My twin hesitates. I know that she does not want me to hurt.
I give her an intense look and motion again and add the motion of
now by pointing my finger down rather harshly.

With a look of uneasiness and confusion, she
looks at me as Chris bursts into the room.

“Where is she?” he asks.

I wave my hand as Sandy begins to touch my
right, very swollen cheek.

“Sandy, don’t!” he screams. I shake a finger
at him and he sees it. Chris jerks back in confusion. “You want her
to…?”

I shake my head yes as I wince when the pain
hits.

“Hold still or its going to hurt worse,
Des.”

-
Sorry. –
I mentally project into
Sandy’s head.

“Look, it’s okay. Please, be still. Still not
used to this yet.”

-
Alright. –

I feel the healing energies flow from her
hand into my jaw. The bone begins to mend itself, but I see Sandy
struggling with it. The exhaustion on her shows rather quickly.

“Des, I…I…can’t…do it,” she mutters as she
falls to the ground with both hands on the ground as she catches
her breath. Sweat pours from Sandy’s brow. “It…it’s too much.”

-
You’ll be able to do it some day. Don’t
worry. –

“Thanks, Des.” Sandy says looking up at me.
Then, she turns towards Chris and Brandon who are off to her left.
“We need to get her and ourselves dressed. I thought I could heal
her jaw. But it is beyond what I can do right now.”

“Alright, Sandy,” Brandon says. “At least you
tried. You still may have sped up the healing process. Who
knows.”

“Come on, baby,” Chris says as he helps me
onto my feet. I am still holding me busted jaw. “Let’s get you
dressed, so we can take you to the Emergency Room.”

I nod my head in agreement.
I have never
felt such pain before.

Chapter
Thirteen: The Link

7:21 AM

IT TOOK way too long to leave the local
hospital. We head back to the hotel with my mouth wired shut. I
have to be careful when we go out for a little while now, since
that bloodthirsty beast nearly killed me. I
t
just about kills me not to be able to talk,
especially with Sandy trying her best to crack me up knowing that
there is nothing that I can do. This is taking a toll on Michelle
as she tries not to hear my thoughts, but she is the only one that
I can really have a conversation with.

We head over to a local restaurant not too
far from the hotel on our way back. Sitting in the parking lot is
Kelly and Devon. The Traverse pulls into the parking lot. As I get
out, she sees the extent of the damage to my jaw. Kelly’s eyes
widen as she checks out my face.

“Oh, my word,” Kelly says as she see the now
puffy, swollen, and very blackened right side of my jaw which is
only allowing me to see out of my left eye. “I didn’t know it was
this bad.”

“Actually, it was a lot worse,” Brandon says.
“If it weren’t for Sandy’s abilities, Destiny probably would still
be in surgery. As it was they only had to wire her jaw shut.”

“Yeah, and Sands won’t shut up,” Chris adds.
“She is antagonizing Destiny which is making Michelle
frustrated.”

“How so?” Devon curiously asks.

“I have telepathic powers and I’ve been
hearing Destiny complain about Sandy yapping,” she softly says with
a little anger in her voice which you rarely see from her.

“So why do you sound like you are older?”
Kelly asks Michelle.

“It infuriates everybody that I talk this
way. But to me it just seems so natural.” Michelle begins to rattle
off. “Not to brag, but since you asked. I have a genius level IQ
and have tested out of several grades all the way to High
School.”

Kelly only seemed more confused. “But how can
that be, you’re what nine?”

“For a few more days, yes,” Michelle responds
politely. “But I am more a thinker than a talker anyways.”

“And somehow she wound up with psychic
powers,” Chris finishes for Michelle, who looks at him very
angrily. I drop to one knee as I feel the pain that is released
through Michelle’s anger.

“And how did you come by those powers,
Michelle?” Devon asks.

“I think I was born with them,” Michelle says
sheepishly. “Honestly, I don’t know.”

Michelle gleams with pride. This sends a
flood of emotions into my head. I cannot take the amount and
intenseness of the emotions she is pouring into me.

Out of the corner of her eye, and everyone
else’s; Michelle notices me grabbing my head in pain. Her eyes
nearly bug out.

“The link!” Michelle exclaims as she turns
towards me. “Did I hurt you?”

I nod my head as tears rolls down my cheeks.
I try to stand, but dizziness begins to overtake me. Chris catches
me before I can fall to the ground.
I so wish I could
talk.

- Look, Destiny, I am sorry for causing you
pain. But it’s going to take time for your jaw to heal. And that
was WITH Sandy helping you. –

- I know, Michelle. This is just so
irritating that I can’t eat or do any other things that I enjoy.

- Eww. Destiny, come on. I don’t need that
image of my brother. –

- Sorry, Michelle, I couldn’t help it. I’m,
also, getting hungry. –

- We all are. -

“Are we gonna stand out here all morning or
are we gonna go in?” Michelle asks as she looks at everyone. They
stare at her quizzically. “What?”

“You’re right, Miki,” Chris says. “I’m
starting to get famished myself.”

“I couldn’t agree more with you, Chris.”
Sandy says as a stand there with a grimacing look on my face. The
pain is absolutely horrible. We all walk into the restaurant for
breakfast. I barely manage to drag myself inside being tired and in
a lot of pain. How am I supposed to eat with mouth wired shut?
Through a straw? What a revolting development.

The twenty-something blonde waitress in a
light blue shirt with name tag and black slacks shows us to our
table. There are a total of seven of us, so we need a really big
table. The waitress and a couple of busboys put a square table and
a rectangular table together for us.

We all sit down and she hands us menus to
look over. I see some rather delicious looking entrees for
breakfast, but Michelle reminds me telepathically that I will not
be able to enjoy them. So I decide on a strawberry banana mango
smoothie. Yeah, a liquid diet for now. Great.

Everyone begins to get lost in their own
conversations, tears roll down my cheeks. I lay my head on Chris’
shoulder to my left. He begins to stroke my cheek and I wince. I
didn’t realize that my right cheek was that sensitive.

“Oh, sorry, Des,” he says as I look up into
his eyes, my eyes begin to water. Chris is unsure of what I am
trying to tell him and I nod towards Michelle.

“She says not to worry, Chris. It’s okay.
She’s just sad that she cannot say anything right now,” Michelle
relays from me.

Chris lifts my chin and looks into my eyes.
“Are you sure?”

I nod yes. He, then, lowers his lips onto
mine and kisses me gently. My pain disappears momentarily as a
feeling of euphoria overwhelms me.

“Destiny!” Michelle says from across the
table. “Yuck!”

-
Sorry. –

- Please, I didn’t need that image. Keep it
to yourself. –

- I will do my best next time, Michelle.

- Thank you, Des. –

- Oh, when the waitress comes around let her
know that I want a strawberry banana mango smoothie. –

- Not a problem, Des. -

Within the next couple of hours, we eat our
food, relax a little, and formulate a plan to capture Mickey
O’Brien. There are several things which I do not like about the new
plan. A - I am, once again, put in the path of the beast as bait.
I swear that I have been through enough already with this
beast.
B – Not only will I be in harm’s way, Michelle is to
join me out there this time.
Unh, uh, no way. I do not like
this.
C – They do not want us to bring any weapons with us,
just run when the beast gets close.
Yeah, no good. This guy is
extremely fast for his size. And I’ve barely learned that I have
powers of teleportation. WE are in big doo-doo.

Chapter
Fourteen: Springing the Trap

11:35 PM

WHY US? Why Michelle and I? I know that this
beast knows who we are. I hope, that is not the reason the two of
us are being used as bait to draw him out. And why, here, at
Harrison & Son General Store?

It is dark here with only the security lights
on. I am wearing a light jogging suit dark blue, purple, and teal
in color with cross trainers on my feet. My hair is pulled back
into a pony tail. Michelle, slightly crouched beside me, is in
denim overalls, with a pink frilly shirt underneath; pink socks;
and pink Sketchers shoes. I have a flashlight in hand. I flick it
on.

This is the plan my family and new friends
concocted earlier this morning at breakfast. Being here this late
in the night doesn’t help me at all as the medicine begins to take
effect. I am a little woozy. Michelle continually reminds to keep
my focus. I hear a scraping sound on metal. The problem is that I
cannot tell what direction it is coming from.

The sound seems to echo all around us. Not
good. Then, Michelle drops to the floor her head in intense pain.
She tells me she is receiving a psychic message from the beast.
However, I still manage to keep standing as Michelle tells me what
he said.

- He said I see you both. Your demise will
be quick.-

Suddenly, a katana mystically appears in my
right hand and I drop the flash light. It breaks.

A voice appears in my head. One I have never
heard before.

- Girl, with my help you’ll kick his ass.
-

- What should I do? –

- Let me be in control. –

- You are? –

- Olivia Firebrand. –

- You’re my… -

- Great-
great-great-great-great-grandmother, yeah I know, girl. Was a
hunter in my day. I was trained by samurai. –

- What was your specialty? –

- Werewolves. –

- Have at it then. –

- This’ll be fun. -

Olivia prepares my body to be ready for the
forthcoming attack. Michelle looks up and a grin comes across my
face
.
The stance Olivia puts my body in,
shows the katana above my head with my arm crooked and the blade
going past the side of my head towards the front of me.
Furthermore, my body crouches down and bounces around a little in
anticipation.

That’s when we see those big glowing red orbs
in the dark. Objects begin to fly at us. We dodge the objects
gracefully. I rush into action with Olivia as my guide. A smirk
comes across the face of the beast. He lunges at me. I duck and
slide between his legs. As I spring to my feet, I slash at the back
of his left leg. The beast drops to his knee momentarily.

However, this leaves little Michelle quite
vulnerable, or so I thought. As the beast charges at Michelle, she
concocts a psychic shield around her entire body. The nine year old
begins to lift herself off the ground. I stand in awe as I see
someone completely in tune with her special abilities. Wow.

Quickly, she flies up to the catwalk. She is
well out of his reach. Then, the beast howls. His pack of hell
beasts make themselves known to our presence. Michelle and I are
easily outnumbered ten to one. Great.

-
Now what, Olivia? –

- This is not going to be easy with you
unfamiliar with teleporting. –

- What?-

- We need to get the hell out of here, girl.
You need to teleport to the catwalk, get Michelle, and teleport out
of here. –

- Alright, here goes. –

I concentrate and instantly I am on the
catwalk next to Michelle. The little girl looks up at me. She is
terrified.

-
Michelle, this is gonna suck. Hang on.

- Destiny, what… -

We disappear from the General Store.

A few moments later, we reappear just outside
the store in the woods. A big furry wolf walks up to us and looks
up at Michelle as if trying to communicate. Michelle has a confused
look on her face as she tries to understand the different voices in
her head.

-
What’s going on?
– A young reddish
brown furry wolf asks us.
