He grabbed her hands and pulled her up on shaking legs, then straight over his shoulder. She gripped his belt as he carried her unceremoniously up the stairs and into her room. He bent and deposited her on the bed. The same one they’d slept in together.

Mason froze, hands at his belt.

“What?” she asked.

“I...I don’t have a condom.” His expression was best described as horror.

“Mel will have one.” She rolled to the side of the bed and stood, willing her legs to cooperate.

Hannah crossed an arm over her chest. Her breasts might be small, but she was not used to walking around with her tits out. Mason stared at her arm and heat flamed on her skin. She scampered out onto the landing and over to Mel’s room.

After their sex talk, Hannah had glimpsed an interesting collection of stuff in Mel’s nightstand during the lube handoff. The lube Hannah hadn’t thought about or needed once. It was probably lost somewhere now. But that didn’t matter.

She tiptoed into Mel’s room and pulled the top drawer open.

There were wonders Hannah couldn’t begin to fathom in the drawer. Some of it she wasn’t even sure what it was supposed to do. But the box of condoms? That was her language.

She snagged one and left the room as she’d found it.

A few steps and she crossed back into her room...where a naked, aroused Mason waited for her. He pushed the door open and crowded her back against the long, low dresser.

Mason grabbed the waistband of her shorts and yanked them down. She kicked out of the clothes, the frenzied need to feel him driving her out of her mind. He grabbed her knee and lifted, forcing her up on to the edge of the dresser.

He snagged the condom from her fingers and ripped it open with his teeth.

Her head buzzed with thoughts and feelings so twisted together she couldn’t tell them apart.

Mason rolled the condom on. He pushed her legs apart. She perched her toes on the drawer pulls. He put his cock at her entrance, stared straight into her eyes and leaned forward, pressing into her. She sucked in a breath as he stretched her, all the nerve endings vibrating with pleasure at the slow drag.

He withdrew and thrust.

The dresser banged against the wall.

She leaned back against the mirror, arching her hips, changing the angle.

“Oh—oooohhh!”

The orgasm was sharp and sweet, a slice of pleasure.

Mason pulled her off the dresser. Her legs nearly gave out, but he turned her to face the mirror. She gripped the edge of the drawers and watched his reflection behind her. The fierce way he stared at her. He pushed her feet open wider and thrust into her again so hard it rocked her up onto the balls of her feet.

She lowered until she was braced on her elbows, Mason gripping her hips so tight she could feel the press of each finger against her skin.

He touched all of her, inside and out, branding her his. Forever.

Mason stared at the popcorn ceiling, his mind blissfully quiet. Hannah’s breathing had evened out, not that he didn’t like the sound of her panting and breathless, but sex was an entirely different aerobic activity. The sheets rustled. Hannah rolled to her side, her beautiful, bare body pressed against him. He groped around until he found her hand and squeezed.

He really needed to step up his post-sex game.

Had he ever been with a virgin?

Sex on the stairs and the dresser and...fuck...up against the wall. Not exactly baby steps.

He turned his head to catch a glimpse of her and a lump formed in his throat.

Her big eyes stared at him, little pools of water at the corners, ready to become Niagara Falls.

“What’s wrong?” He turned, pulling her up against his chest. “Did I hurt you?”

“No, no.”

Shit.

He was an ass.

“What happened?” He swiped his thumb just under her eye, catching a bit of moisture.

“What did my dad say?”

That.

Oh.

Fuck.

“Nothing bad. Well...I’m suspended for a week...I think. I wasn’t really clear on that, but nothing bad. I swear.” A week away from work. With Hannah. And a bed. They could do a lot of things right. The first time. Or ten.

“What?” The creases on her brow and around her mouth deepened.

“I know you butt heads with your dad a lot, but he loves you.” Mason pushed her hair off her face. A simple action he’d never tire from doing.

“But what about you?”

“He said he wanted to see you with someone not like him.” Mason pressed his thumb to her lips to keep whatever protest was on the tip of her tongue quiet. “But since you’re determined to fall for a soldier, he said I’m the next best thing.”

“What?”

“I’m still not sure this isn’t a dream, myself.” He let his hand wander down her side, reveling in the freedom to touch her. In the knowledge that this wasn’t just a one-and-done. It was a future.

“Are you serious?”

“Yeah. I’m pretty sure your dad just gave me his blessing.”

“I seriously doubt sex is what he meant.”

“We can keep that between us.” He rolled her onto her back. For the first time in a long time there was...hope. A future. Something good in his life. And its name was Hannah.

“Are you serious?” she asked again.

“Completely.”

She sucked down a deep breath and a little tear trickled out the corner of her eye.

“Don’t cry, Hannah.” He bent and kissed away the tears, tasting their saltiness on his lips.

She wrapped her arms around him, burying her face against his neck.

He held her, racking his brain to figure out how to fix this. He rolled to his side, taking her with him and keeping her tucked in close.

“He’s not firing you?” she asked after a few moments.

“He didn’t say I was fired.”

“Oh, God, Mason, I was so scared. Why didn’t you say something earlier?” She slapped his shoulder, the scowl aimed at him perfect and adorable.

“I was getting there and then I saw this beautiful woman.” He caught her hand and kissed it.

“And you had to stick your dick in it?”

He sputtered, laughing.

“Come here.” Mason tugged her closer.

This was new, and old. As though they’d always meant to be here, together. It was just a matter of when.

“I’m going to say something, and I’d like you to not freak out, okay?”

“Okay.” She arched a brow.

He didn’t want to spend another moment making excuses why they couldn’t be together, or not sharing their lives. And that meant making the scariest confession of all.

“I love you, Hannah Stevens. And not just because the sex is good and we’re in bed naked. I loved you when I wasn’t supposed to.”

“I—”

He pressed his thumb over her lips again.

“Don’t say anything you don’t want to, okay?” Just because he knew he’d been hit by the love stick didn’t mean they were in the same place.

“I’m really not a fan of this whole shushing me thing you’re doing.” She glared at him and shook his hand off.

“I just want you to know where I’m at in this. But—”

“But? Really? That totally negates anything you just said.”

“Look, all I’m trying to say is don’t confuse first-time feelings with love.”

“You are so arrogant.” She jabbed her finger at his chest. “You really think I don’t know the difference between love and lust by now?”

“I’m just saying—”

Hannah sat up, tears gone and a good rage going. She was...amazing. And not just because he was getting a front row seat to the best breasts in town.

“I love you, you stupid man.” She poked him in the ribs.

He grabbed her arm and they rolled until he had her captured under him.

If she wanted to believe it was love, he’d take it. Everything she had to give. He wasn’t honorable enough to give her up. Not when he had her exactly where he wanted her.

Mason kissed her, tasting her lips, the lip balm, and her tears still on his tongue.

“Are you trying to shut me up?” she asked against his mouth.

“No, but kissing you does have that bonus. There are other things I’d like to do besides argue with you.”

“Jerk.” Her lips curled into a smile and her hands smoothed up his back. “I love you. It’s not because of the sex.”

“I know. Things have always been pretty intense between us, haven’t they?”

“Dear God, I thought it was just me.” She rolled her eyes.

“Nope.”

He touched her face, her lips, lost his fingers in her hair. There were no rules now. Just them. Okay, maybe there were some. With Hannah’s background and her father, there were bound to be expectations.

“Do...this is not a right now question, but...do you want to get married?” The question had his throat tightening up and a chill running up his back.

“You’re right—that is not a right now question.”

“Eventually.” He swallowed. A wife, maybe some kids, they’d always been in mind.

“Someday. Yeah.” She squeezed his waist. “But not now. I know you might not believe me, but I really do want to take things slow. Some things. Not all things. But this, yeah. Slow.”

“I can do slow.” He waggled his eyebrows at her. Slow could be a lot of fun.

Hannah laughed, that magical sound that made his whole world better.

“And—just a thought—but let’s try to not let my dad in on just how fast things have gone?”

“Deal. I’d like to never have a sex talk with your dad. Ever.”

“Glad we’ve got that settled.”

“Now, a different topic...” He grinned.

“Why do I get the feeling you’re up to something?”

“Oh, I’m not up to anything yet, but give me a few minutes.” He pressed his knee between her thighs. “Is there something you want to try?”
