John: Thinking of you.

Been thinking of you all damned week.

John, I was thinking of you.

I actually almost asked you to come over, but not really up for sex tonight and you are too hard to resist.

John: I can be ugly.

Be as ugly as you can.

I have an hour before I need to get to bed.

He had to make it down two flights of stairs.

I ran into the bathroom, throwing my hair in a clip and adding a bit more blush.

He was already ringing the bell.

I looked through the peep hole.

He had another damned bottle of wine.

How was I going to resist him after a few glasses of wine?

I opened the door.

He stood there in pajama bottoms that were old and worn and an old t-shirt.

His attempt to be ugly just made him sexier.

Dammit.

“Come on in,” I said, stepping aside.

He walked straight to the kitchen.

Oh God his ass looks good in those pants.

Is he wearing underwear?

I had to shake it off.

I was like a dog in heat.

I may as well put my knees on the edge of the couch and my face on the cushion and offer myself up like an animal.

“Opener is in here, right?”

He had it in his hand before I could answer.

“So, you’ll never guess what I did this evening.”

“You’re right, I’ll never guess.

So why don’t you tell me?”

I could smell his body wash.

I wanted to sniff his neck.

“I not only accepted an offer on one of my buildings, but on two of them.

Two buildings will close in a month.

I have you to thank for that.

The mail hit on Tuesday and the calls started coming.

The buildings have been showing all week.

Tonight, two offers.”

“That’s fantastic!”

I squealed like a teenage girl.

“So, I went out and bought the most expensive bottle of wine I could afford and waited to call you.

I didn’t actually have the balls to call, so I sent you a text.

But I wanted to celebrate with the phenomenal woman who made it all possible.”

He slid a glass to me.

“To the best damned Advertising Executive in the world.

You did in one week what I haven’t been able to do all year with my realtor.”

“All I did was make the right people aware of your awesome buildings.

You did the hard part.

But, congratulations, my friend.

Cheers.”

“Friends?

Is that what this is?

Friends with benefits, sometimes?”

His brow furrowed and his jaw tightened.

I sighed.

“John, I have to tell you something.

Have a seat.”

I slid a bar stool to him.

“I’m in therapy – sexy therapy to be precise.

Because I’m just learning about myself, my therapist stressed to me not to get attached yet.

If this weren’t the case, you wouldn’t have to ask.

You’re smart, talented, incredibly sexy and most of all, I like being around you.

But I’m not going to get into a committed relationship until I can give that person a whole individual.”

I held my breath while he processed what I had just told him.

His shoulders started to relax.

“I’m sorry.

Women have toyed with me in the past.

I shouldn’t have blurted that out… or you know, put you on the spot.”

He hung his head.

“I am not playing games with you.

I like you very much.

Please look at me.”

Had I crushed him?

“I’m embarrassed,” he uttered.

“Don’t be.

That was a reasonable question.

Now, let’s get back to celebrating.

To seeing your vision come to fruition and selling two of your masterpieces.”

He smirked, tapped his glass to mine and drank.

“So, I’m incredibly sexy, huh?”

“Yeah, you totally failed at showing up ugly.”

I laughed and nervously sipped at my wine.

I hoped he understood and was relieved he wasn’t asking questions about therapy.

“Sorry, I tried.”

He walked around the island until he was standing next to me.

“So, if I promise to try not to have sex with you, and not to act like an insecure teenage boy, can I kiss you?”

“Don’t get me wrong, I want to rip your clothes off.

It’s not you I’m worried about.

So yes, you can kiss me.”

John ran the fingers of his right hand through my hair until they reached the back of my head, then he pulled me in for a kiss.

There was passion in his kiss…emotion.

I could feel it.

His left hand made its way around my waist to the small of my back.

He’d weaseled his way between my legs.

I fought the urge to hop off my bar stool and lock my ankles around his hips.

My hands were on his biceps.

They were nice biceps, large and firm.

He smelled so wonderful.

I felt my heart start to race and my panties start to moisten.

This had to stop.

I came up for air.

“Let’s go in the living room.”

I fanned the heat off my neck as I spoke.

“Hot and bothered?”

He chuckled as he scooped up his wine glass.

“More like boiling and unglued.

Thanks for that.”

We sat on the couch and I put my feet toward him to keep some distance.

He instantly took my right foot and started massaging it.

“Oh Jesus, that’s wonderful!”

“Yes it is.”

His greyish green eyes gazed at me.

I swear he was screwing me with his eyes.

I could feel the heat coming off of his body.

I leaned my head back.

The foot massage felt like heaven.

Women’s shoes were hell on the feet.

His hands were warm and strong.

He knew his way around a foot too.

I put my wine on the table so I didn’t spill it.

Then, my foot that wasn’t being rubbed moved.

It moved because his erection was pushing it out of the way.

Clearly, he was not wearing underwear.

Dear Lord.

He picked up the moved foot, resting the other on his thigh.

He began rubbing that foot and squeezing my calf muscle.

PERFECT STRANGERS

My alarm was going off.

I rolled over to hit snooze, but when I slapped at it, I heard glass break.

Something was off.

“Oh shit!”

My wine glass was shattered on the floor along with half a glass of wine.

My feet were still on John’s lap and he had been roused awake.

“I’m so sorry.

I didn’t mean to fall asleep,” he said.

“Me either.

I’m sorry.”

I threw my legs over the other side of the couch and ran to grab a broom and paper towels.

John helped me clean up the glass and wine.

“I was watching you sleep.

That’s the last thing I remember.”

He rubbed his face.

Damn, he even looked hot first thing in the morning with a stiff neck.

“It’s okay.

I, um, I will start some coffee, but I have to get ready for work.”

I was such a mess, my brain still sleepy and numb.

John grabbed me by my arms, stopping me.

He pulled me toward him and kissed me briefly.

“I am going to go home and grab a shower.

Do your thing.

I will see you later.”

He winked at me before releasing my arms and heading out the door.

With John gone, I jumped in the shower and got ready for work, gulping my coffee.

While grabbing my briefcase, I glanced at the clock.

In my rush, I had assumed I was running late.

I had plenty of time to get to work.

I took a deep breath and relaxed.

Olivia was already at the office as usual, working away.

God, did I admire her dedication.

While I may have been uncertain about the other decisions I was making, clearly Olivia had been the best choice I had made in a while.

Thankfully, I was able to work with few distractions.

At lunch I started to get nervous about my meeting at nine with the couple, but work soon distracted me from those worries.

“Hey boss, it’s five o’clock.

You getting out of here?”

Olivia had her bag already slung over her shoulder.

“You want to grab a drink?”

“Olivia!

I’d love to, but I have plans this evening and I really need to go home and get ready.”

“A date?

You go girl!”

“Sort of… thank you.”

I shut my laptop and gathered my things.

“I’ll walk you out,” Olivia offered.

“Tell me about this date.

Is it the hottie from the bar?”

I laughed.

“No, but he is freakin’ hot!

I’m keeping my options open for now, but I do like spending time with him.”

“Tell me!”

“Not in here,” I said under my voice.

Once we reached the outside of the building, I started telling her a bit about what was going on.

“Oh, I remember my first couple.

Have a great time.

I’ll see you on Monday.” Just like that she admits she’s been in a threesome.

I envied her.

The drive home went by quickly as my thoughts were on what may happen later.

I showered and shaved everything baby smooth.

While we may only meet, there is a chance we will all click and the evening would go much better if I were not worried about stubble.

I made myself a quick dinner before getting ready for the evening.

I was dressed, accessorized and ready to go.

Thinking and fantasizing about the possibilities had me excited beyond belief.

The photo the couple had sent were sexy.

She didn’t have the body of an athlete, but was nice and slender with a great chest.

He was a little on the thick side, but I liked men with meat on their bones.

It was easy envisioning all the possibilities.

I tried to distract myself.

The only thing we agreed to was drinks.

It was possible that they wouldn’t even like me.
