He looked at them and as he went
to the door his last words to them run a chill down their backs. ‘We may not
have a choice about not being ready think about that while I have a look.’ He
left them there thinking on what he had just said.

Angel crept up the stairs very
quietly, listening as he climbed. As he came to the top of the steps he could
just see into the room where the Renegade was. He was not able to see the
Renegade but he could see the magic that was coming from the room. He'd never
seen anything like this before not even the old spell holding Nirvana.

From in the room below using
their magic to feel the spell did not show them how it looked through the eyes with
magic. They did know that it was different from other magic but seeing it with
his eyes now let him understand what they were seeing.

His thoughts were now so intent
on the spell he moved ever so slowly up the last step and crept along the wall
to the door. He never gave it a thought the Renegade might be able to see him
for so intent on the spell was he. He stopped just at the door where he poked
his head around to get a better look at the spell.

Aura was suddenly in his head and
with a strong command tried to bring him back to thinking properly. ‘Angel stop
now before you are seen, NOW Angel?’ There was a very deep command in her voice
and it seamed to be working.

Angel pulled his head back out of
the door and just leaned against the wall beside the door. ‘It’s ok Aura but I
need to see more of the pattern to the spell he is using. It is very important
that is why the old spell holding the school sent the ripple in the magic to
warn us this spell he is using is hurting it.’

Aura felt his need to know and it
was very strong but she felt it just a bit too strong where he puts himself at
risk of being seen. ‘Yes you need to see the spell we all know that but what’s
the point if you get seen and the Renegade gets you. Then it was just a waste
of time and you might get the others hurt in the process. Then you promised the
Renegades dragon you would free him. If you are going to do that, then you must
be careful, OK?’ She felt she needed to make him think and shock him into being
careful, she had been with him in his mind when he first saw the spell and how
it wanted to draw him into it.

Aura had wanted to stay and look
at the spell for the pattern of it was so different to anything she had seen
before and it wanted to draw you in. The spell the Renegade is using was so
alien in ways yet there was also something in there that was like the old magic
holding the school to the mountain.

‘Aura are you there I’m ok, the
spell wanted to draw me in. The pattern is so beautiful but there is something
else in there I need to know. I have got to have another look at the pattern
and I need you to help keep it from engulfing me. Pull me back when it starts
to overpower me, then I will go back again and each time it tries to overpower
me you just bring me back. This needs to be done OK?’ There was determination
in his voice and he could feel Aura was worried about him.

‘I will be ok if we can work
together on this, I can get an idea on the difference in the spell and see what
it is.?’ There was a pleading in his voice to Aura.

Aura could see he thought that
what he had to do was very important for them to know and she could see he was
very determined to do it. ‘Ok I will keep back and also as a double check I
will get WhiteStar and Shylyn to pull us both back if it draws me in as well.’

Angel breathed a sigh of relief
when she agreed to this. Now I can try and see what’s in the spell that is
drawing me in. It’s not the magic of the spell drawing me in but the need to
know what the difference in the spell is. It is me that wants to go right in to
the pattern and see what the difference is. I’m the one who is drawing me into
the spell to the exclusion of everything else.

Now Aura can pull me back if I
get too rapt in it. Now I will just stick my head around the corner to see the
pattern and see where the Renegade is standing performing the spell. This spell
is one that works as the spell is being woven and so it must be right for it to
work properly. But he is not doing it properly for there are gaps in the
pattern and this is the only reason the old spell is still working.

If the Renegade was to fix all
the little areas that are disrupting the pattern then it would work better. But
he is hindered in that the pattern is so complex he can’t have it all in his
memory. He would have to have it written down somewhere like a pattern used for
weaving mats. With the pattern so complex he would have papers all over the
place.

Then there is the fact he can’t
see the pattern and has to rely on his memory of the pattern he is after. That
is why there are so many areas in the pattern that don’t work. He is so
involved in the weaving of the spell and keeping it working against the old
spell that I will be able to study deep into the pattern of the spell and see
where the difference comes from.

Angel took some deep breaths and
then drawing on magic from the others he gently looked deep into the pattern
trying to see what was different about the spell. He knew it was old but what
was the magic originally used for. He could see the original pattern had been
for something completely different and not for what it was now being used for.

As he went deeper into the
pattern he started to see what the spell was originally used for. It had been a
spell made to hold things together, something like the old spell holding the
school to the mountain but not quite that way. It was more like holding a group
of things together so they would not fly off.

Where the Renegade found it from
was anyone's guess, but found he did. Now he was trying to make it do the
opposite of that and make it repel away. If he could get it into the old spell
which he has done then he could get it to start making the old spell repel
itself and anything it held away.

The Renegade was not doing it
right for there were too many mistakes in the pattern to work properly. That is
the only thing saving the old spell and the school at the moment. But it could
still do the damage if he gets it better, and he was starting to do that. As he
looked at the spell he could see little mistakes being fixed but there were so
many of them.

Then a thought come to him that
he did not like, for the Renegade does not need to get it perfect for once it
was big enough then parts of the old spell would fall apart and anything stuck
to it at that point would fall apart. He could see they only had a little time
left before it would be starting that process. With enhancing the healing in
the old spell it would also give them a little time but not much.

Now he needed to find what was so
different in the spell that has been drawing his attention. There was something
so different in the spell; he had seen the spell was like in ways to the old
spell but then the Renegade has been using different magic to change it. Not
Renegade magic.

This Renegade had found a magic
that was totally different to anything anybody would have seen. It was nothing
like their magic and from what he knows the Renegades are just like them except
they just have different objects in life. So that means their magic would be
like our magic.

Now he needed to see what the
difference in the magic is and see if he can tell where it comes from and how a
Renegade can be able to use it. Angel could see the magic would be very hard
for any of their wizards to use. Which means that Renegades would have the same
problem except this Renegade does not have that problem?

Angel delves a little deeper into
the different magic and is suddenly repelled back out of the spell. He pulls
his head away from the door with sweat pouring down his face as he leans up
against the wall.

‘Angel are you ok what happened,
I followed you so far then you seamed to go very deep into the spell and all of
a sudden you went flying past and I was tugged along with you. What happened
did the Renegade feel you in the spell, if so you better get away quick?’ She
felt his fear as she spoke to him and could see he was starting to shiver.

Angel just leaned against the
wall for the moment before he spoke to Aura. He slowly relaxed and the
shivering slowly stopped. ‘I’m ok and no he did not feel me in the spell, he is
to enrapt in what he is doing for it is using a lot of his magic to create this
spell. No it was something I found in the spell and I need to go back in there,
now.’

‘What’s in there that you need to
go back for, if it was strong enough to knock you out, won’t it do it again?’
She could not understand him wanting to go back in after it pushed him out.

‘No Aura it did not push me out,
I pushed myself out for what was there I did not like, but I need to go back
and see it again and quickly for the longer I take in going back the harder it
is going to be. I must go now.’ He knew she would not like it but he could feel
she will keep an eye on him this time more closely.

He went in deep again very
quickly this time as he wanted to be in and then out as soon as he could. What
he had felt in there repulsed him so much, but he needed to see it again to try
and understand the nature of it.

He went deep to the point again
where he had pushed himself back out for what he had seen deep down in the
spell was something he had never come across before. He needed to see it again
to make sure of what he had seen there in the different part of the spell.

What he was looking at was the
magic changing the spell to make it do the opposite of what it had originally
done. As he got to the point of where he throw himself out he managed to stay
just a little longer before he went flying back out again. The same thing
happened again and Aura could feel him shivering again and also feel the sweat
that was running down his face again. Aura was going to get him to go back to
the others before he did something to himself.

‘Aura its ok I’m going back to
the others now as I have seen all I want to see here. I’m ok it’s just what I saw
down deep in the spell was something that I never would have thought possible.’
He was shaking as he spoke in his mind to Aura and she could feel him doing it.

Angel slowly made his way down to
the others in the room under the Renegades. He entered the room and the others
came over to him straight away and crowded him wanting to know what he had
found. He now had to explain what he had seen in the spell that he had thrown
himself out of twice.

Before he was going to tell them
he needed to be sure of the Renegade first. ‘First we need to be sure of the
Renegade and see if he is still working the spell. Can one of you just check
him?’

Shylyn nodded to Medwin as Shylyn
and Maive checked over Angel to see he was alright. Medwin drawing on
WhiteMoons strength let his magic move up to the spell upstairs just to see if
the Renegade was still working on the spell. He found he was still performing
the spell but found the spell was weakening.

The Renegade was getting weaker
with using his magic so much, for he had been at it from the start of the
attack on the school and possibly when they had first opened the portal. If he
had been doing it from then he would be starting to get very tired and would
soon have to stop.

Medwin come back to the others
and explained what he thinks will happen. ‘I think he will have to stop soon as
he is running out of strength for he has been doing this from the time the
portal opened and that is a long time to keep working on a spell. It would not
help with us using our magic to help the healing powers of the old spell.’

The girls were still keeping an
eye on Angel as Medwin explained what he thought. Angel looked at him nodding
as he had listened. ‘I think you right he will have to stop soon and that will
give the old spell time to repair itself. The spell he uses is one that must be
kept working for it to have any effect on the old spell. If it stops then the
old spell will try and repair what has been damaged.’

Medwin looked at Angel before he
spoke and Angel looking back knew what he was about to ask. ‘What did you see
in the spell that forced you out of it, was the spell that strong it could push
you out?’

‘Yes tells us what happened in
the spell Maive and I would like to know, how bad is it?’ Shylyn was starting
to look worried as Angel was holding back from telling them what he had seen
deep in the spell.

Angel looked at them and knew
they needed to know what he had come across in the spell bad enough for him to
push himself out and twice. As he was about to explain what he had seen they
all felt the ripple again in the magic. The old spell was giving them another
warning.

Angel gathered his magic and sent
it up above to the spell and the Renegade finding him still working the spell
but he was weaker but it was the spell that had changed a little. He could see
the pattern was a little more whole than before which meant the spell would be
working on the old spell better.

Angel gathered all their magic to
him and sent it to the old spell outside. He felt along it till he came to the
hole where he found it bigger. The healing spell was not able to keep up with
the damage that the spell was doing to it. He called in the dragons’ magic and
tried to reinforce the healing spell around the hole. It seamed to be working
again and was starting to push back against the Renegades spell.

He did some more reinforcing and
then they heard a yell from up above and knew the Renegade had picked up on
what they had just done or at lest seen the healing spell fight back after he
had been winning. They were sure he had not picked up they had done it; well
they hoped he had not.

Angel then went back to what they
had talked about before and was about to tell them when Aura and all the other
dragons came into the minds. ‘There are three more dragons just coming into
land on the Renegades deck and are going into join the other dragon there.
There are three more Renegades coming to see the one upstairs. You must stay
quite and then leave?’
