Day pointed his 9mm at the driver.
“Tell him were still inside, nothing new.” Day pressed his gun to
her temple. “No fuckin’ code words.” Day’s face was a mask of
anger.

Syn was barely registering what was
going on. All he knew is that Furious was in trouble and that
bastard had him and had been keeping tabs on Syn. God was already
on his phone with 911, running back to his truck, but Syn was
stuck. He couldn’t move, all he could think about was how long had
that monster and his brother had his love and what they might have
done to him.

Syn vaguely heard the radio crackle
and the women saying exactly what Day told her too. After Furi’s ex
acknowledged the check-in Day yanked the door open and jerked the
woman out of the car. The passenger still mute as a statue. She
stumbled back into the utility pole, looking terrified and angry.
Syn finally snapped. Pulling his own weapon, he grabbed the woman
by the hair. “Where the fuck are they?” he yelled, pointing his
weapon at her forehead. What he was doing was illegal but he didn’t
care. This bitch had helped set Furi up, so he’d pistol-whip the
hell out of her if she didn’t start talking. He didn’t give a fuck
if he never worked as a cop again, all he needed right now was to
get to Furi.

Day was there, yelling at him to stay
calm, but he ignored everything and everyone except the woman at
the other end of his gun.

Where is he?” Syn
screamed in the girl's face, causing her to cringe away from his
rage.

Your house, your house,”
she cried cowering down on the street.

The sound of tires squealing around
the corner had Day and Syn running to jump in God’s
truck.

They’re at Syn’s,” Day
said jumping inside, barely getting the door closed before God was
burning rubber down the deserted street. They were less than five
minutes away. He was glad Day was smart enough to tell the girl to
answer, otherwise Patrick would’ve have time to either kill Furi or
get him away from the apartment.

Syn was shaking in the back seat. He
held his gun tightly in his lap, his finger hovering over the
trigger. He rocked back and forth, wanting to get out of the
confines of the truck and run to Furi. He felt so helpless right
then. Day’s hand on his leg made Syn jump. “We’re gonna get to
him,” Day assured him.

Syn could hear the police
radio on God’s dash dispatching all units to his address and
rattling off information on the location they’d left the women that
tailed them.
What if we don't make it in
time?
He squeezed his eyes shut trying not
to think of the worst possibilities.

Please be okay. Please be
okay.

Furi watched Patrick walk around Syn’s
room observing the space.

It looks like we’re good
on time, darlin. Can you believe your boyfriend decided to stop to
get some food and hang out with his pals instead of coming home to
be with you?” Patrick sucked his teeth. “Any time I went away, I
couldn’t wait to get home to you.”

Patrick climbed on the bed straddling
Furi's lower body. “This is what you left me for.” Patrick gestured
around.

I left you because you
didn’t love me,” Furi whispered.

Patrick slapped Furi across his face,
stinging his cheek and Furi yelled out at the sharp pain. “Shut the
fuck up! I loved you every day I had you! I still love
you!”

If this is what loving
you feels like, you can fuckin’ keep it,” Furi snapped back. His
remark earned him another slap across the same cheek. Furi groaned
but he turned back to look at Patrick. He was going to keep him
talking. Because as long as Patrick was cursing and slapping him,
he wasn’t raping and killing him.

I gave you everything you
asked for and even the things you didn’t. Then while I’m gone on
business, you run away!” Patrick fumed. “I thought you’d been
kidnapped! Do you know how long I searched for you? And here you
are sleeping with some bum without two pennies to rub together. He
can’t afford you!”

I’m not a goddamn whore.
I don’t need his money or yours,” Furi growled as well as slurred.
He’d thought maybe he’d gone too far because Patrick gave him a
look that chilled him to the bone.

Furi blinked and Patrick’s
large hands were around his neck. The music was really loud but
Patrick’s yelling and cursing could still be heard. Even though it
was the early hours of the morning, no one came to ask Syn to turn
the noise down.
God, why?
Furi could feel his world going dark. Patrick was
literally choking him to death. Furi kicked and bucked, trying to
throw Patrick’s heavy weight off him. All that did was cost him a
lot of energy. Yelling was futile. His mouth was wide open but
there was no sound coming out.

Looks like the drugs are
wearing off,” Brenden yelled over the music.

I know,” Patrick yelled
back. “Come hold him down! Then when I’m done, I’ll hold him for
you.”

No. No.
Furi yelled in his mind. Tears were streaming
down his face, blurring his vision. The sound of a loud cracking
noise followed by Brenden yelling out was just audible over the
hard bass pounding in Furi’s head. Brenden went down on the bed,
his face twisted in agony. In a split second Furi saw a bat coming
down hard on the back of Brenden’s head. Furi struggled with
Patrick. He was still trying to hold Furi down while yelling at
whoever had barged in. Patrick’s eyes were focused on his unmoving
brother.

Furi tried to make sense of what was
going on. He hoped Syn had come, but it wasn’t him. It was ... it
was ... it was the neighbor. The stoner that drove Syn crazy. His
eyes were wide and alert as he held the bat up high in the air
screaming at Patrick to back away.

Get the fuck off of him
right now! I’ll whack your ass too,” he hollered at Patrick,
holding the bat in striking position.

Furi was so grateful at that moment.
He’d really thought his life was over. Furi watched Patrick move
off of him, his steel gray eyes honed in on the neighbor. Furi had
to move. With every ounce of strength he had, he tried to work his
way off the bed, but it was very difficult. He was having a hard
time taking in air while he coughed and spat from being choked. He
lifted himself some but fell back down again, his limbs still like
dead weight. The neighbor came over and tried to offer Furi a hand
and as soon as he took his eyes off of Patrick, his ex jumped on
the neighbor. The bat flew across the room when Patrick landed on
the scrawny man with a hard thud. Furi clumsily swung his legs over
the edge of the bed and struggled to stand.

From the side of the bed
he could see Patrick cock his fist back and land a devastating blow
to the neighbor.
Oh God
. Furi couldn’t let this innocent man get killed because of
him.

He’d just managed to half yell half
cough. “I’m calling the police.” The statement making Patrick
abandon the neighbor and come back to him. He couldn’t have called
the police if he wanted to – no phone.

Fuck
.

Furi was exhausted, he didn’t bother
trying to get his heavy arms up when Patrick grabbed him and threw
him hard across the room. Furi hollered out at the dresser
connecting with his already tender ribs. Patrick closed the
distance and was standing over him. When Furi looked up he saw
Patrick’s fist aimed at his face. He closed his eyes but was jolted
violently before he could feel the punch.

Atlanta PD! Atlanta
PD!”

Furi slowly opened his eyes and that’s
when he saw God and Day barreling into the room, their guns drawn
with at least five other men.

Syn. Syn,” Furi
whispered. But he didn’t see him.

Syn don’t!” He heard Day
yell. “Stay back. Don’t touch him! Stand down! All of you lower
your fuckin’ weapons!”

Who is Day talking
to?
Furi tried to get to his feet but he
couldn’t. Uniformed cops had their weapons drawn and pointed. Furi
figured they must’ve been aiming their guns at Brenden and Patrick.
Furi was still on the floor on the other side of room and couldn’t
see what was happening. Was his ex resisting? Did he have a weapon
out? Furi’s head was still foggy and his vision hazy. Syn was there
somewhere because everyone was shouting his name. Furi managed to
get to his knees, his arms trembling trying to hold his weight
up.

Syn! Don’t throw your
life away over this trash,” Day yelled again.

Officers, I said stand
down goddamnit!” God’s throaty roar sent a scary chill through
Furi’s body.

Tell your Sergeant to
drop his weapon,” another uniformed officer called back. “He has
his gun drawn on an unarmed man.”

Furi was still crawling. He saw
Brenden’s motionless form still lying on the floor, his hands
cuffed behind his back, blood oozing from his ear.

Where is Syn?
Furi needed to see him. He’d know everything was
all right when he saw him.

What he didn’t expect to see when he
crawled to the other side of the room were countless guns drawn and
aimed at the man he loved while he crouched over his ex with a gun
pointed at the center of his forehead.

Drop your weapon,
Sergeant Sydney!” the officer yelled again.

Someone had turned the music off and
all that could be heard was the commotion of so many men in a small
space and angrily barked official orders.

If you shoot my Sergeant
there’ll be hell to pay.” God’s deep growl broke over the
yelling.

Furi was making his way to Syn. He was
all Furi could focus on. He didn’t care if it put him in the line
of fire all that mattered was Syn. He wouldn’t let Syn go down like
this. They were supposed to live a long and happy life together in
love, while Patrick had to watch from the sidelines. Syn in jail
for the next twenty years for murder was not a part of the
plan.

Do it!” Furi heard
Patrick taunt Syn. “You better do it, or else I’ll come back for
him and next time I’ll make sure I finish the job. How does it feel
to know that I fucked him in your own bed? And he screamed my name,
Sergeant ... not yours.”

Syn’s body shook with the power of his
wrath. He was going to kill Patrick.

That’s a fuckin’ lie,”
Furi rasped out, trying to break through Syn’s rage. He could see
the sweat dripping down Syn’s face as he stared down the line of
his gun. Both hands were grasped so tightly around the deadly
weapon that the veins in Syn's forearms bulged. His rapidly beating
pulse was clearly visible just beneath his flushed skin. Syn’s
finger rested heavily on the trigger. One sudden move and Patrick’s
brains would be all over the floor.

Keep talking, Furious,”
Day told him quickly.

Syn please listen to me.
He did not have me. I would never let that bastard have me. I
belong to you. Syn please put the gun down. Don’t let him take you
away from me. It’s exactly what he’s trying to do. I swear to you.
He. Did. Not. Have. Me,” Furi stressed. “Let
him
go to jail, not you. I need you
here with me.” Furi was right next to Syn, looking up into his
gleaming eyes, but he didn’t touch him. He knew not to touch him.
“Don’t kill him Syn. Jail is a far worst fate for him. Let him be
confined to a six by eight cell. Let him be someone’s bitch. Let
him have to wash another man’s dirty drawers for the next twenty
years.”

Furi saw a small crack in Syn’s anger.
He slowly brought his hand up and very gently brushed the back of
his hand down Syn’s cheek. “Look at me, Corbin.” Syn was still
glaring daggers at Patrick. “Corbin, I love you. Look at
me.”

Syn blinked slowly before turning and
looking at Furi. His eyes roamed over him as if he just realized
Furi was actually there talking to him and not in his mind. He
could see Syn’s love reflected back at him and knew he’d gotten
through. Furi had managed to get to his knees but fell back down to
the floor from the exertion.

Furi needs you. Help
him,” Day told Syn. Syn was on his feet and cradling Furi in his
arms. He picked him up and whisked him out of the room and away
from Patrick’s curses and threats.
