GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR THE SEVEN DAY CLEANSE

The seven day cleanse is a
full cleanse
. This implies that you are not allowed to consume any meals during the day – you can only consume power packed, yummy smoothies.

The cleanse incorporates three smoothies, snacks (could be a smaller smoothie) and water or green tea for the entire period of seven days.

Here are some helpful tips on the ingredients:

  • All ingredients used in your smoothie must be raw. You can use superfoods, fruits, green leafy vegetables, water and even green tea in your smoothies.
  • Try and incorporate at least one or few dark leafy vegetables in your smoothies. These may include spinach, beet greens, kale, arugula, bok choy, chard/Swiss chard, collard greens, carrot top leaves, parsley, dandelion greens, lettuce (especially with dark green leaves), mustard greens, spring greens, radish tops, sorrel, watercress and turnip greens.
  • Try and incorporate at least one or few superfoods in your recipes. These may include goji berries, acai berries, flaxseeds, chia seeds, blueberries, spirulina, cacao nibs, hemp powder, etc.
  • Discard the stems of your greens. This will enhance the taste of your smoothie.
  • Try and rotate your greens for each subsequent smoothie, this will ensure that your smoothie do not look and taste monotonous.
  • Ensure that you include adequate amount of protein in your smoothie – this can come from some green vegetables (such as kale and spinach), superfoods (such as nuts, spirulina, wild blue green algae, hemp, bee pollen, goji berries, chia seeds etc.). Incorporate superfoods into your green smoothies to ensure that you meet your daily requirement of protein and keep your metabolism high.
  • It is a good idea to add fruits into your smoothies. However, you must not overdo them. Try and include low sugar fruits such as apples, limes, lemons, cherries, blueberries, gojiberries and raspberries into your smoothies, especially if you are diabetic or on a sedentary lifestyle. (Diabetics must always consult their doctor before beginning this diet). High sugar fruits such as kiwis, mangoes, bananas, pineapples, apricots, etc. can also be included in the smoothies. These should, however, be avoided by diabetics. A person with a highly active lifestyle may actually need these fruits.
  • Always use ripe fruit in your smoothies – it can be frozen or fresh.
  • Stevia is used in most of the recipes as it is a natural sweetener.
  • Always try and use organic ingredients. If you cannot source organic, try and wash off the pesticides with vinegar, water and other special cleansers available at food stores.
  • You could use spring water, purified water, alkaline water or ice in your recipes. Tap water should not be used.
